-get good m8- but for real, matching making probably won't change due to the low player count, and I know as a fact when anyone first starts to play dust they get absolutely rekt, but what most people don't think is about all the "proto stompers" including me. We used to be the ones in the beginner shoes at one point in time while playing dust, but after you get your first fully fit proto suit, you just don't want to use anything else, it's an addiction.... One that won't change ever, because no matter what game you play what playing style is yours, once you get the best gear there is no stopping you from using it. So, if your a "bambi" please attempt to try, because you will get there. Kdr players, that's a different story, the stats can really make players go nuts, seeing your name in top 10 best Kdr monthly/ weekly is a great sight. Most proto stomping players do this because there is no real objective to the game but having good stats. Yeah some will say controlling districts is an objective, but most players don't get to experience it due to **** Corp leads/ directors. So yeah when you see players who are actually good, please remember they were you once.

Make a new contract (just like pubs) and restrict proto or higher tier from the standard pubs. However allow players to use proto/officer in this new contract and let them stomp the fk outta each other. This way newberries can avoid slaughter and vets can seek challenge.

Not necessarily. I played in standard suits for years and years until the slot tiericide made advanced more comparable to proto. I still didn't play very aggressive, it just becomes extremely hard to score kills on people since they have to actively screw up for a relatively long duration.

When I started there wasn't that many getting "rekt", sure there was a handful of stompers (NS, Imps, Team Players and such) but they were the exception not the rule like it is today, a lot of matches you couldn't tell which team would win just by looking at the player list, hardly anyone dropping from matches (not counting errors), most players were on a level playing field and we had 4-6 thousand people on at any given time. To be fair, that didn't last long and now there's a huge gap, one team stomping the other is the rule and a balanced match is the exception, you know with almost 100% certainty which team will win just by looking at the player list, a squad or two dropping out intentionally. Barely of 2k players on at peak hours, if we're lucky it jumps up to a little over 3k when older players / not so new noobs give Dust a try again only to give up on it again because it's the same bullsh!t it's been for over a year & 1/2.
It's not the game though, it's the players. As far as I can tell it's not because there's no objective or to pad stats. Many that remain are vindictive assholes and It's just boils down to bullies picking on paraplegics because they can't fight back.
I have proto/officer and choose not to use it because it's unnecessary against noobs. They have proto/officer and choose to use it because it's overkill and makes beating a dead horse easier.
Most of what I see around here is just a bag of dicks in need of some kicks.

Maybe a little bit, but I think it's an understandable place to be. It's frustrating running bad gear and then losing 1-on-1's or generally under-performing because the gear is bad. The onus is on CCP to fix the design issues that make proto stomping a thing. Slot tiericide was a great step in the right direction, and I think it's clear that it worked well. Something more emphatic could be useful, though.

I decided today I would fight against Proto Stompers in Pubs by stomping them right back with Proto/Officer Gear until they switch to something more reasonable for newberries to handle.
I did it today when I was playing against Diego Ricardo Piento in an Acquisition match. I stomped him and his squadmates to the ground so badly they ended up switching from Proto to APEX; I consider that mission accomplished. |

Meh. I'm a amarr logi. I profit from my teammates dying and spawning on my uplinks. Though if its officer I'm gonna use my cheapest bpo fit gear to kill someone in officer. That Scotsman's+bons shotgun scrub took my bullets and died. But he was one of those I come from a corp that does nothing but milk isk from any source so we can spam officer gear all the time. So killing him in a apex suit meant nothing to him.
Ha! You can't kill me! I'm already dead!

I normally use advance gear (Normally is the key word here) and I do okay depending on how good my team is. When I see all hope is lost, the whole enemy team is running proto, I give up, switch to a standard bpo scout with a plasma cannon and I just goof off. My k/dr will be garbage at the end of the game, but at least I'd go positive in isk. Plus, those plasma cannon kills...... There's just something about them that brings me the same satisfaction as a melee or a knife kill.

In Eve, no-one cares if your Ships Destroyed vs Ships Lost number is high when your Killboard is filled with noobships and your top ship is a Garmur.
I know Dust is an FPS, but it makes no sense lore-wise and gameplay-wise to track KD. You're a mercenary that's hired for your ability capture or defend a piece of infrastructure for a corporation. Win/loss should be the thing that players can look at to say "I can see why these corporations keep hiring me" and ISK efficiency should be the thing that players can look at and say "I'm a successful mercenary". Maybe we can try to change behaviors rather than changing the game? Keep a KD stat for FW and PC, but replace it with an ISK efficiency stat for pubs. Or maybe CCP could use some of that shiny new proxy node to start generating Killmails as well? With Killmails comes a Killboard, and with a killboard comes the ability for players to sort the actual good players from the stat-padders.

That Isk thing is the issue and the big reason why Protostomping occurs. Its too easy for big corps to get a lot of isk and they can afford to stomp. Myself and my fellow plebians can only hope to run advanced and not go bankrupt.

One day I am actually going to commit to sitting down and explaining to this community how to use the KDR stat in this game and why it is important.
But for now I am just going to say that if you are comparing your KDR to someone else's then you are not using the KDR correctly. |

I'm a logi so I personally don't care about KD, so I'm keen to hear your thoughts. But in the meantime:
Care to meet me in the middle and say that enough people are doing the KD comparison thing that it's having a negative effect on the gameplay? Specifically match leaving and objective abandoning.

Im a logi, always have been and I still care about KDR. My concern however, is my kills vs deaths vs wp generation vs team tactical enhancement. Dying 15 times without killing people is detrimental to the main objective, which is win. Doing the best you can without giving up too much ground and providing an edge for your team is actually dependent upon your KD being close to or above 1.0. You don't have to be a kdr ***** to care about your kdr.

Yeah caring about your KD is fine when you've also got the objective in mind, which is why I specified match leaving and objective abandoning. As for logi no care KD, I'm no slayer... never will be. If I can pick up, resupply and repair teammates before each death then I can go 0/7 and still have very much provided an edge.
