My friend pointed out forks officer sniper does base damage on a full charge, making it worse then the thale in every way. Meanwhile having skilled out of snipers long ago, I was blissfully unaware and had assumed it worked similarly to the scrambler rifle, adding multiplier damage when charged past the minimum... anyone know why sniper rifles overcharge to reach base damage while scrambler overcharge is to go beyond it? I would also liketo test partial charged shots next on the sniper rifle to see how low the minimum damage threshold is at minimum charge.

A Charge Sniper Rifle does the same damage regardless of charge level (already tested this one xD). Part of it is because the Scrambler rifle generates significantly more heat on charge for the increase in damage. A Fully Charged Shot on a Scrambler Rifle currently does about 4x Damage for 12x the Heat Cost of a standard shot...roughly equivalent to consuming more ammunition per charge shot in terms of DPS limits.
Additionally, the Charge Sniper Rifle and Symbs Sniper Rifle have higher headshot multipliers than the Standard Variant Sniper Rifle, which while I do not feel this justifies their (relatively) low damage, they are supposed to be the more precision oriented sniper rifle.
EDIT: Post Fox-Four, The ScR Charge Shot should cost 16x Heat Cost instead of the current 12

But why even allow it to 'OVERCHARGE' why not have the charge indicator max out when charged like the forge gun.

Well, that explains that. No reason to use the annoying high pitched versions any more. All thales all the time.

To allow for quick follow through shots when necessary to attempt to finish off a target the first headshot couldn't? That would be my first guess. I'd be happy to retest the Charge Sniper Rifle Damage to see if it scales up again if it would make you feel better (since I don't have the video file anymore, I cleaned it out... and now that you're questioning it I'm loosing confidence in my answer xD)? You know what I'll do that later today when FW gets up.

The original idea for the charge sniper was to have a choice of two shots; partial charge for lower damage but quicker fire, for picking off weak or wounded targets, or the full charge for high damage against heavily tanked targets.

what he said, i liked the idea and tried it.
...it blows.
the problem is the scale(?) of the charge. it seems similar to the laser rifle in the way the damage multiplies. it takes around 75% of the charge time to do 50% or less damage. this makes quick follow up shots impossible coz for the first 25% of the charge it feels like the damage is in single digits. :(

Meh. Its great for headshots, Ill grant you. But where Ill get a single headshot with ma Roden I would kill seven with a Thales. I do not claim to be anything greater than a bad sniper.

Snipers are crappy horrible weapons to use.
They really only reward ultra campage and red line sniping and are pretty useless as a precision mid range option. Start changing this up (especially crouching to even shoot the damn thing straight) and maybe we can move forward with this being a proper weapon.
Oh I say mid range... I mean mid range in terms of what we are used to in FPS games. I DO NOT mean "DUST 514 Rifle midrange" which is around 50-60 meters....
This is the turning point, the rising of the tide.

Ok, I was wrong, it does only do partial damage on charge...I still need to verify, but it looks like the damage builds up linearly just the ScR's Charge shot (effectively the Charge Sniper Rifle has a Charge Shot Multiplier of 1).
This means that a Minimum Charge shot on the Charge Sniper Rifle does 50% damage

Still seems strange to me that scrambler multiplies when charged and sniper is diminished until charged. Makes the charge varients much less desirable. I hope they bring them in line like so many other things lately
