Just spec'ed into the Gallante Commando to proto and the suit is just not good. The Assault suits are great where they are as they are the primary form of Assault already. The Gallante Commando gets owned pretty much by any other race/dropsuit given it has the most weakest Assault rifles in the game! Oh yeah let me give damage bonuses to the RR because it's not powerful enough, here have a Caldari Commando. Wait you're dying at 80m away from a combat rifle with a Sentinel with an ehp of 1200 in 4sec from a scout, here, you must, you NEED to dye faster! So Minmitar Commando here's a damage boost to your long range(supposedly medium range) rifle!
Amarr you have OP lazer rifles and scrambler rifles you need a Commando with damage boosts aswell!
Now last and certainly least: Gallante! You have the weakest rifles of all the other races and only have one type of rifle to try and compete so here's a damage boost to you aswell if you have the Commando. But wait, never mind, the Gallante Commando is pointless just grab a Gallante assault suit and stack damage mods to do more damage than the Commando could ever hope or dream! Plus you'll move faster have more mods and bonuses anyways, yeah don't waste your time.
I know this is a bit constructive but I only said all that to convey my passion for this game. And feel like the last month I saved over 1M SP to go proto into a Commando that's NOT even worth it is to say the least disappointing. And felt like I was further stepped on by the Assault only bonus to ROF of Gallante hybrid rifles. I honestly do not know what/why the Gallante Commando exists for.
Please don't see this as hating I just see a positive turn for the Caldari tanks and another negative turn for the Gallante Heavy suits. In conclusion I appreciate all your hard efforts Rattati and the team that puts all this out. Stay strong and shoot the mountains of life in the face with a ARR ;) |

Well, I've got all the gallente specialty suits to proto, and I gotta say the commando isnt bad. 1 proto dmg mod on the commando gives you 17% damage, 3 dmg mods on the assault gives you just about the same % of damage with stacking penalties, so you could get even more DMG from commando by having 2 proto dmg mods.
The DMG from commando also applies to plasma cannon and shotgun as well, so you could keep things versitile by being able to equip 2 assault rifles, 1 assault rifle and a plasma cannon, 1 assault rifle and a shotgun.
Heck sometimes I equip 1 rail rifle and 1 assault rifle on the gallente commando.
I do kinda see your point with the Gal Assault getting 25% ROF bonus to assault rifles with the new hotfix though, but the commando also gets a reload bonus ontop of the damage bonus, so it would be able to reload the assault rifle faster than the assault, so has a slightly better longterm fire output.
I do always wish the commando had like 2-3 more module slots tho.
I actually think the gallente sentinel is in a worse place than the commando, but yeah, being a suit based around giving extra damage to the main rifles that has the shortest ammount of range, you'd think there'd be a bit more tank or speed to go with the short range of the assault rifle. |

Galmando doesn't need a rof bonus because it already has a flat 10% damage bonus. If you think the AR is underperforming on the galmando you need to be more aware, more mobile, and abuse cover much more often.
The AR is ******* beast on a galmando.
Remember that 10 damage increase ? It cancels your negative 10% armor profile. Add damage mods, accurate burst fire, and using the AR in its optimal in the right situation and you basically don't lose in cqc unless you get snuck up on, core naded, or double teamed
Only the bumrushing min sentinel will buttfuck you consistently. That's because they tank more, are faster, have damage resists, and have an hmg. An assault one most likely. Ahmgs laugh at ARs since they made them ranged.
Just remember the galmando is the only commando who cannot supress a target consistently at range using his racial weapons ( TAC ar and burst AR are ranged but they don't compare in battle) Cal have rails, amarr have lazors, min have mass drivers. The plc is your longest range weapon and it has to reload so no consistent supression. You supress from mid range. You punish with your plc or shotty in cqc.
While slow to anger and occasionally indecisive, they are also capable of harnessing enormous resolve when truly tested.

I really wish people would stop saying this, because it's stupid and wrong. No, the Commando damage bonus DOES NOT CANCEL YOUR DAMAGE PROFILE PENALTIES.
COMMANDO BONUSES DO NOT WORK LIKE THAT.
So please, stop saying stupid, wrong things. It helps keep my blood pressure from going up. Also, it helps keep me from smashing people's heads with a brick.
With that said, to address OP's issues.
Jakkal Shoobah wrote:You punish with your plc or shotty in cqc.
This is absolute correct OP. A GalMando with a PLC can actually 2-shot a Sica if you get in the right position. Moreover, the reload bonus is amazeballs when combined with the PLC and will be superbeast when combined with the Hotfix FoxFour Breach Shotgun.
Very few people expect a Commando to whip out a shotgun. Combing the PLC+SG gives you a serious CQB threat, and a great multi-purpose weapon.
Note that you can blap most shield LAVs with L4 GalMando, Prof3 PLC, and 2x Basic Light Damage mods. It's pretty awesome.
EDIT:
Juno Tristan wrote:The Galmando is in a good place, damage mods in the highs, ferros and a repper in the lows, what more could you want
I wouldn't run quite like that; I generally favor rep+cardiac+kincat for the lows, as it gives me a bit more mobility to move around with.
OTOH, I did also recently put together a legit ninja heavy fit, so.... YMMV.

I appreciate your input and agree that the Gallente Sentinel kinda sucks compared to any other Sentinel. As far as damage stacking penalties go, that has only been consistent on vehicles although it used to pertain to dropsuits aswell. Ever since CCP flattened the dropsuit progression tiers and made each higher tier with just more CPU/PG (that of which I don't agree with giving much less value to fully spec into proto and much more friendly to new blueberries) dropsuits don't get damage mod stacking penalties anymore. Either a glitch from the last update earlier this year or a permanent decision I don't know. But see for yourself! As it stands no penalties for stacking damage mods on dropsuits right now. It's easy math on field. I personally favor a Caldari Assault BPO fitting with 5 damage mods to make my STD RR & bolt pistol fire harder than proto. The game will tell you if you've been nerfed by looking at your damage multiplier on dropsuit fittings.
As far as bonuses to the shotgun and plasma cannon I thought the same thing too at a time, but found out the truth! The description of the Gallante Commando clearly states for the assault rifle.
It's just disheartening to be forced to use other races weapons because you have to, not because you want to. I have been staying primarily spec'ed into Gallante stuff because I hope they won't suck that bad one day. For now, in the blink of an eye every other weapon will kill you.
Gallante Commando and Sentinel needs more modules I agree too! Why should other suits have ALL the power?! They move faster anyways. |

I really don't understand this logic.
"Weapon A is Underpowered. Dropsuit B has a bonus for Weapon A. Buff the bonus because Weapon A sucks"
So then the weapon still sucks for all suits that dont have the bonus? If a weapon is underperforming, buff the weapon itself, not add arbitrary bonuses to certain suits to fix it. Treat the source, not the symptom.

are you sure damage mods dont get a stacking penalty any more? I should go test it. Usually what I do to test it is equip one suit with no damage mods, point my gun at a friendly supply depot in the redzone, and see what effecacy bonus it would get against it, then switch to a suit with 1 complex damage mod, do the same, then switch to a suit with 2 dmg mods, do the same, then 3 dmg mods and do the same.
I know the dropsuit fitting screen shows the damage mod bonus, but that screen hasn't ever calculated the stacking penalty, even though the stacking penalty should be applying and working properly in the game.
I'll go test this the next time i can, but you should too just to be sure. |

Current Commando bonus basically makes your standard weapon perform like it is proto. There are minor differences of course, but the 10% is significant

You know, I already explained this once. DAMAGE MODS DO NOT AFFECT PROFILE BONUSES/PENALTIES.
Damage mods are stacking penalized- the UI is currently bugged and displaying the damage modifier incorrectly. Damage mods affect the base damage of a weapon. So, for say an Assault HMG which does 56.00 base damage at Standard, a single damage mod would provide a 3% increase in damage, to 57.68 damage.
It would not change the damage profile to be 88%/118% shield/armor. Commando damage bonuses work the same way- it's a bonus to the raw damage of a weapon; a PRO AScR does, IIRC, 38 damage/shot base, so on a PRO Amarr Commando it would deal 41.8 damage/shot base. The profile would not change to be 130/90 against shield/armor.

My thoughts exactly! But CCP is apparently making suits specialize which I like (within one specific race) so other races will be encouraged to use their own faction's to be the most powerful. Now every other AR: RR/CR/SR/LR can be awesome no Matter the race. They're very powerful weapons. I just see the heavies as judged and overlooked more often than not because they're bigger (which is racist and bigotry) but seriously no Gallante Heavy: Sentinel or Commando can be justified by their use right now. Just because they used to be OP does not mean they still are but that mindset is still fresh. |

I think this would make my new favorite APEX suit too good.
Its already particularly good with Burst and Tactical ARs, which would not receive much benefit from a ROF increase for the average player with a human trigger finger, practically turns the PLC into a COD noobtube, and the upcoming breach shotgun mag increase is going to make that thing scary again
Give it an AR ROF increase on top of the 10% damage increase and its going to be too good at too many things at once |

....Except they're not.
You're correct in that we should encourage racial matching through bonuses. However, the other bonuses for assaults for example, boost general handling/performance but don't directly increase instant DPS. I feel this could be problematic.
Let's say you put the AR on a Logistics suit. It's a pretty meh gun. Now put a Combat Rifle or a Rail rifle on a Logistics suit. It's pretty damn solid.
Post FoxFour, the AR will perform properly on the Assault, yes. And it will be lethal. But the gun is still going to be terrible on any other suit (Save perhaps the Gallmando. It's still not ideal but it performs decently enough)
If you have to buff the AR on all suits to make it good......you should just be buffing the gun itself. I would have much preferred a moderate increase to the DPS of the AR itself, and then if they wanted to add a lessened bonus to the GalAssault I think that would have been more appropriate. Make the AR more viable on non-assault suits, and then make it quite a bit better on Gal Assault.
Pulling numbers out of my ass, I think it would have been a better idea to go +5% DPS to Assault Rifles themselves +10% fire to bonus for Gallente Assault

Treat the source, not the symptom. I'd actually like to see all weapons getting a hard nerf in the face. Then, if you use the right weapon on its racial suit, there's a big bonus to bring the weapon back to its normal state. Then everybody keeps its current bonus.
This would be working for primary weapons only.

Horrible idea, because that would defeat the purpose of there being a difference between assault and commando. Assault is for attacking objectives, making the frontline push, commando's are solo striker forces that are suppose to supress the enemy and make vehicle users think twice before actually jumping into the fray. A Commando, NEEDS that reload speed and NEEDS that damage, especially with the PLC and breach AR, or burst, or tac, whichever you prefer.
Assault's SHOULD differ in bonus' from the commando, as it means more diversity in the game and besides, with your "logic" and the "logic" of the community, every commando should have a carbon copy of the assault bonus and if you get your way FCF, you'll be looking at every forum warrior, trying to do the same for their commando. Does anyone want to see an Amarr Commando with a scrambler heat bonus AND scrambler damage bonus?

Ok this is where I am going to say I am more in favor of small steps for balance here.
Much as i love my heavy suits, increasing the galmandos DPS output with the AR by 10% and adding 15% RoF bonus to the top will cause the galmando to be the full replacement as the Sentinel CQC king. It will have the full spread. Good EHP and phenomenal damage output in CQC that outstrips literally everything.
Plus it's faster.
Remember when I was dumping out all sorts of ways to adjust the HMG without hacking into its range? Something like this could easily drop back and bite commandos in the ass just as I lost the battle to have the HMG adjusted a bit more gently when I knew it was coming one way or another.
Spiking the galmando in this manner will result in galriflemandos outperforming the other commandos handily, without real expenditure of effort. This is something that needs to be carefully gone over before we start dumping new crap on suits.
WoW has taught me that Purple means Legendary. This means Quafe suits are the optimal loadout for killing all of you.

Just because they used to be OP does not mean they still are but that mindset is still fresh. ....Except they're not. Everything you just said is what I said and agree with you too; not quite sure if I conveyed myself clearly enough to you. Not sure where you disagree. My point being they should help the Gallante Commando somehow someway because the AR sucks for the most part.(except for the tac) its pretty much the only version able to fight with the other AR's. Look how many buffs the Assault recently got this year alone! And then there's the Heavies. Both Gallente Commando and Sentinel. I'm just fairly unhappy with the new purchase (with SP the Commando (proto)) of trying to be zealous for the Gallante. Hell the basic Gal heavy is better than the Gal Sentinel right now!
And I'm saying you help the Gallmmando by buffing the weapon itself, not giving the Gallmando another bonus to buff and underpowered weapon.

^^^ Amen.

GENERAL FCF wrote:Just spec'ed into the Gallante Commando to proto and the suit is just not good.
Stay strong and shoot the mountains of life in the face with a ARR ;)
Wow. Because the galmando already doesn't have a damage bonus. Just stick a damage mod and stop trying to shoot people with a vanilla assault rifle at more than 50m. Get within 25 meters. People will fall over.
Ha! You can't kill me! I'm already dead!

The commando can use 2 light weapons with a 10% bonus at the cost of a grenade slot (which is weird because they're a heavy frame)
The assault could slap on a black eagle ar, but I dont think those are loot drops unfortunately.
You also have to take in that the assault has better damage per second, but has less damage per shot and wastes more rounds if you're not on target and spraying. I'd imagine many will try a breach ar on the assault for extra control since the rof will increase the dispersion. |
