Just spec'ed into the Gallante Commando to proto and the suit is just not good. The Assault suits are great where they are as they are the primary form of Assault already. The Gallante Commando gets owned pretty much by any other race/dropsuit given it has the most weakest Assault rifles in the game! Oh yeah let me give damage bonuses to the RR because it's not powerful enough, here have a Caldari Commando. Wait you're dying at 80m away from a combat rifle with a Sentinel with an ehp of 1200 in 4sec from a scout, here, you must, you NEED to dye faster! So Minmitar Commando here's a damage boost to your long range(supposedly medium range) rifle!
Amarr you have OP lazer rifles and scrambler rifles you need a Commando with damage boosts aswell!
Now last and certainly least: Gallante! You have the weakest rifles of all the other races and only have one type of rifle to try and compete so here's a damage boost to you aswell if you have the Commando. But wait, never mind, the Gallante Commando is pointless just grab a Gallante assault suit and stack damage mods to do more damage than the Commando could ever hope or dream! Plus you'll move faster have more mods and bonuses anyways, yeah don't waste your time.
I know this is a bit constructive but I only said all that to convey my passion for this game. And feel like the last month I saved over 1M SP to go proto into a Commando that's NOT even worth it is to say the least disappointing. And felt like I was further stepped on by the Assault only bonus to ROF of Gallante hybrid rifles. I honestly do not know what/why the Gallante Commando exists for.
Please don't see this as hating I just see a positive turn for the Caldari tanks and another negative turn for the Gallante Heavy suits. In conclusion I appreciate all your hard efforts Rattati and the team that puts all this out. Stay strong and shoot the mountains of life in the face with a ARR ;) |

Banjo Robertson wrote:Well, I've got all the gallente specialty suits to proto, and I gotta say the commando isnt bad. 1 proto dmg mod on the commando gives you 17% damage, 3 dmg mods on the assault gives you just about the same % of damage with stacking penalties, so you could get even more DMG from commando by having 2 proto dmg mods.
The DMG from commando also applies to plasma cannon and shotgun as well, so you could keep things versitile by being able to equip 2 assault rifles, 1 assault rifle and a plasma cannon, 1 assault rifle and a shotgun.
Heck sometimes I equip 1 rail rifle and 1 assault rifle on the gallente commando.
I do kinda see your point with the Gal Assault getting 25% ROF bonus to assault rifles with the new hotfix though, but the commando also gets a reload bonus ontop of the damage bonus, so it would be able to reload the assault rifle faster than the assault, so has a slightly better longterm fire output.
I do always wish the commando had like 2-3 more module slots tho.
I actually think the gallente sentinel is in a worse place than the commando, but yeah, being a suit based around giving extra damage to the main rifles that has the shortest ammount of range, you'd think there'd be a bit more tank or speed to go with the short range of the assault rifle.
I appreciate your input and agree that the Gallente Sentinel kinda sucks compared to any other Sentinel. As far as damage stacking penalties go, that has only been consistent on vehicles although it used to pertain to dropsuits aswell. Ever since CCP flattened the dropsuit progression tiers and made each higher tier with just more CPU/PG (that of which I don't agree with giving much less value to fully spec into proto and much more friendly to new blueberries) dropsuits don't get damage mod stacking penalties anymore. Either a glitch from the last update earlier this year or a permanent decision I don't know. But see for yourself! As it stands no penalties for stacking damage mods on dropsuits right now. It's easy math on field. I personally favor a Caldari Assault BPO fitting with 5 damage mods to make my STD RR & bolt pistol fire harder than proto. The game will tell you if you've been nerfed by looking at your damage multiplier on dropsuit fittings.
As far as bonuses to the shotgun and plasma cannon I thought the same thing too at a time, but found out the truth! The description of the Gallante Commando clearly states for the assault rifle.
It's just disheartening to be forced to use other races weapons because you have to, not because you want to. I have been staying primarily spec'ed into Gallante stuff because I hope they won't suck that bad one day. For now, in the blink of an eye every other weapon will kill you.
Gallante Commando and Sentinel needs more modules I agree too! Why should other suits have ALL the power?! They move faster anyways. |

are you sure damage mods dont get a stacking penalty any more? I should go test it. Usually what I do to test it is equip one suit with no damage mods, point my gun at a friendly supply depot in the redzone, and see what effecacy bonus it would get against it, then switch to a suit with 1 complex damage mod, do the same, then switch to a suit with 2 dmg mods, do the same, then 3 dmg mods and do the same. I know the dropsuit fitting screen shows the damage mod bonus, but that screen hasn't ever calculated the stacking penalty, even though the stacking penalty should be applying and working properly in the game. I'll go test this the next time i can, but you should too just to be sure.
I like your methodology although having a friend to join the enemy team and you shoot at them and test it outside the main battlefield is the most accurate way to test it. I will again:) |

So then the weapon still sucks for all suits that dont have the bonus? If a weapon is underperforming, buff the weapon itself, not add arbitrary bonuses to certain suits to fix it. Treat the source, not the symptom.
My thoughts exactly! But CCP is apparently making suits specialize which I like (within one specific race) so other races will be encouraged to use their own faction's to be the most powerful. Now every other AR: RR/CR/SR/LR can be awesome no Matter the race. They're very powerful weapons. I just see the heavies as judged and overlooked more often than not because they're bigger (which is racist and bigotry) but seriously no Gallante Heavy: Sentinel or Commando can be justified by their use right now. Just because they used to be OP does not mean they still are but that mindset is still fresh. |

Everything you just said is what I said and agree with you too; not quite sure if I conveyed myself clearly enough to you. Not sure where you disagree. My point being they should help the Gallante Commando somehow someway because the AR sucks for the most part.(except for the tac) its pretty much the only version able to fight with the other AR's. Look how many buffs the Assault recently got this year alone! And then there's the Heavies. Both Gallente Commando and Sentinel. I'm just fairly unhappy with the new purchase (with SP the Commando (proto)) of trying to be zealous for the Gallante. Hell the basic Gal heavy is better than the Gal Sentinel right now!

Breakin Stuff wrote:Ok this is where I am going to say I am more in favor of small steps for balance here.
Much as i love my heavy suits, increasing the galmandos DPS output with the AR by 10% and adding 15% RoF bonus to the top will cause the galmando to be the full replacement as the Sentinel CQC king. It will have the full spread. Good EHP and phenomenal damage output in CQC that outstrips literally everything.
Plus it's faster.
Remember when I was dumping out all sorts of ways to adjust the HMG without hacking into its range? Something like this could easily drop back and bite commandos in the ass just as I lost the battle to have the HMG adjusted a bit more gently when I knew it was coming one way or another.
Spiking the galmando in this manner will result in galriflemandos outperforming the other commandos handily, without real expenditure of effort. This is something that needs to be carefully gone over before we start dumping new crap on suits. ^^^ Amen.
