First off, the spreadsheet.
First off, scanners are now actually active: they have a capacitor meter just like the cloak field. As you use it, it begins draining. When you stop using it, it begins recharging. Units only show up if they are being actively scanned. If the scanned area moves off them for any reason, their blip immediately disappears. I normalized all scan times at 5s uptime, 20s cooldown, but these numbers are negotiable. In addition, there will be no "Some Margin of Error" message if someone beats your scans. What you see is what you get. This ensures that scouts aren't disadvantaged by the new active scans mechanic.
Second, I normalized all scanners into groups: flux scanners remain the widest angle, longest range scanners, and tacticals have been nerfed to the lowest range, smallest angle precision. However, I have adjusted scan precision within the tier: now the flux scanner has the highest scan precision, meaning it is the easiest to get under. And the tactical scanner has the lowest precision, meaning it is the hardest to get under.
What this does is force the scanner to make a choice: he can either scan a very large area, but there will be many suits able to get under his scans. Or he can use a very low precision scanner in order to pick up sneaky scouts, but he will be unable to see very far with his scanner.

This has too much math for me to understand but I'm sorta getting the gist. Does this work with the current gallente logistics bonuses or do those need redesign as well?

This makes scanners predictable , I know you said this is negotiable and I believe that the times should be diverse depending on the function .
Yeah the differences in frequencies are a given but the run / charge times shouldn't be as predictable as for someone to know the " window " of the scanner , it should be diverse as to keep players guessing and on their toes .
If their getting scanned , chances are their not trying to hide , I'm not for also giving them the " window " for their movements , that's just too predictable to me .
It also takes away from the functionality some .
Bland and vanilla .
Keep the timers different depending on the function / purpose of the scanner .

Love it, +1.
Puts the 'Active' in Active Scanner, so deserves as much attention as possible.

Gallente would need a small rework: the bonus to precision can remain easily, but since there would be no more "snapshots" the bonus to scan duration is worthless. This should be changed to scan uptime per level, meaning the GalLogi can use the scanner for longer than other suits before it runs out of juice.

The timers are the same because there should be a window for units to move around without being scanned. If you still disagree with this point, I have an easy solution: carry multiple scanners. With 3 scanners at GalLogi 5 you could actually permascan an area.

I really like it. May I suggest some tweaks?
Due to the precisions on the spreadsheet, and common profiles you may wish to scan, I think most Gal logis would only use the proto flux or proxmity scanner.
The flux will scan any undampened assault or higher. As most assaults don't bother with dampeners there would be little point using the quantum or base scanner.
The proximity scanner would have the precision to scan most dampened scouts, and also the range to provide decent general recon. So there would be little need to use the tactical.
I suggest tweaking the numbers to this:
Flux - fine Quantum - 40db (30db with Gal logi) Same as flux. 7s uptime (similar to how it has longer duration now). Base - 35db (26db with Gal logi) This would allow assaults to hide from it with two complex dampeners, encouraging counterplay, but is still capable of scanning any undampened scout. Proximity - 35 db (26db with Gal logi, same as base) 15s cooldown. Like now, it would have a shorter cooldown than the base scanner. Tactical - fine at 20db (15db with Gal logi) Capable of scanning all but the most extremely dampened scouts. So effectively everyone.
I think three tiers of precision, rather than five, would give you more distinction between scanners.
One other issue I can think of, is that when active, can't the scanner just keep spinning round? If so, what is the benefit of a wider scan angle? Even if this issue can't be resolved and scanning mechanics remained the same, these new numbers would be great. |

EDIT: Since scanners would now no longer provide scan duration after the target stops being scanned, the GalLogi would instead get a bonus to scanner uptime. This means the GalLogi can continue scanning for longer before the cooldown cycle begins. >a new variety >just within the effective kill range of every gun
Erase tactical, transfer it's scan amount to proximity.
The rest should stay the same.
+1 for copying my idea -1 for giving me credit.

Faster scans.
As a wider scan area enables faster sweeps, but unlike current scanners the scanner would be vulnerable.
On a whole i'd say the active part needs to be put into place before any numbers are touched, seeing as any numbers presented currently can only reflect the current meta.
The numbers as they are right now may be perfect and whiny scouts could potentially destroy a well balanced system.

The only scanner that you should change if you are looking to change any active scanners is the CreoDron Flux Active Scanner in my opinion. At the moment with the Gallente logistic bonus to level 5 the CreoDron Flux is a 200 meter & 21db active scanner, this is the cause of much of the qq on active scanners.
Although i myself & many Gallente logis don't necessarily agree with readjusting active scanners at all, as they are a vital role for both teams, we agree that the flux is the cause of the problem being voiced on the forums.
I have spoken to many Gallente logis & we are in agreement that the CreoDron Flux Active Scanner is a little too potent in db level, and that the db level could be changed to avoid being able to scan the majority of the map with having 2-3 of them on a logistic suit at any one time.
The new db level should be high enough so that all it would take to get under this scanner is one profile dampener at complex level for commandos, assaults & scouts, either that or change the recharge rate, duration or cpu/pg cost of the CreoDron.
As I've said in the past, the CreoDron Flux scanner for me was a vehicle/equipment scanner & with it's current db level it's overused to scan everything. One scan to rule them all as it were.

+1 awesome idea...
anything is better than the death sentence behind those dreadful red letters...
besides.. make scanners "work" for a change... you see me while scanning, nice... instead of me having to wait on the signal to fade.. I can keep moving, as scouts are wont to do...
no more perma scan, unless players are "dedicated" to scanning...
