TL:DR played a new character, noticed a severe change of fits and weaponry, as well as MU jump.
So I found a fresh alt (been collecting passive sp though) a few weeks ago and decided to play around with some suit and weapon combinations just to have some fun. Of course just my knowledge of maps and basic tactics propelled me to the top of the charts. These matches were boring but at least I got to used unorthodox weapon and suit pairings.
Quickly enough the MU rating seemed to work and put me up a few notches rightfully and I was glad. Its worth noting that at this point I was using an advance min commando, advanced modules, basic light weapons., vanilla nanohive. In these matches from this point, I was having fun, with no noticeable lag, framerate drops, or any hit detection issues. I did good some matches, bad others, but the matches were enjoyable from start to finish. Sure some left from time to time but to the point of barely noticeable. I did still top the charts sometimes, but usually only the matches I came in as av to help out the team. On top of all that, both sides played tactically and every match had that perfect challenge level. I always was challenged, died if I played stupid, and even as a solo player my actions contributed to the teams success.
It is worth noting that the players I encountered were hard working, quick on their feet to respond with the right weapons and tactics on the fly. I would say the bracket I was put in with the MU ranking were competitive but with mid sp. In my set up I was able to make a few million isk slowly and was ok when I lost more than I made in a match. These reminded me of the old days of Dust pubs.
Of course that had to end and that end was today. All of the sudden I was thrown back to the wolves. Instantly I noticed hit detection issues in the first match when pub proto stars where reintroduced. No longer was I able to play they way I wanted. Instead I was forced to do what had to be done. After my first 2 matches in this ranked up bracket I was already bleeding isk and had to reduce my fittings. I reduced everything to basic, suit included. On top of this I had to go back to using only min weaponry to accommodate my suit so I had a fighting chance. I do have to say that this newer bracket would be the lower end of the triple A players at best. I figure 10-30mill sp totals, but already enough to adopt their big brother suits, module, and weapon configurations, just without the flexibility of those that have double the sp. AKA only one of the FOTM instead ofX3 of them per player.
This point my interest quickly declined. Don't get me wrong I like a hard challenge, but there was definitely something askew. I started to question myself. Up to this point I felt the MU system was working very well, and I was happy even for a short time. I blame myself for using that basic swarm launcher from the right spot at the right times too often for my predicament. Yet there was something I noticed in this jump up in bracket that called to all my past experience and knowledge. I started to look at where and why my hit detection dropped. I personally have not had noticeable frame drops or lag except pc battles in 4-6 months (I am not saying it does not happen just explaining my personnel experience). I started to look at the root causes of such issues and have tried to find reasonable thought out answers.
For starters, stacking penalties are not harsh enough. I know play the game the way you want, but good god be damned already. Armour tankers can tank and gank, this prevents me from using anything non racial weapon wise. As a shield user, using a laser, which is best with the amar, is not a good idea if your a shield user. Going through the MU ranks does not reflect thisAny new player could have been using this weapon decently and dumping sp into it up to that point.
Next I would have to call out excessive kincats and myo stacking into account. These two fall into the same category. They both allow you to move faster than the game can track, period. If went from being able to apply ok to decent damage on my min commando with a laser to all suits to proto any assaults strafing left in right right through my beam and no damage applied. I am talking about 3-4 passes with hit markers but no damage. Same ghost dodging applied across all weaponry . even mass driver and acr. Mind you up to this point my hit detection was great.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to to call out one tactic or another, just trying to see things through the side of a new born player working through progression, as well as what I noticed as an experienced player. I now this post is all over the place but the true reason I posted is so that others can better look into the shortcomings of this game and try to push forward to the end of the proverbial tunnel. I believe my recent experience should be noted and I would be willing to share more my findings with the current CPM or CCP to help find the underling issues this game seems to have. Most of what I have to say or converse about would be easier over live comms.
