what do you all think of this?
I propose for shield rechargers to work in the same way that armour repairers do, meaning there is no delay in recharge, meaning running shield suits is as viable as running armour suits.
of course you can easily get your shield to rep at 50+ so the modules would have to be tweaked otherwise shields could be 50% more effective at repping than armour.
of course then we would need a shield repair tool, you should only be able to have one type of health repaired at a time, it would be too OP to have shield and armour repaired at the same time, perhaps if we could work it out we could have a hybrid version which does repair both, but at a small rate.
shield repair tool = same icons, same animation, same models, more AUR variants, more BPOs, more money and more flavour.
If you lose armour you do not have to wait seconds before your armour is repaired, even without modules due to the passive armour repair rate, with shields you have to sit still and hide for a while, the delay is increased if your shield reaches 0, if your armour reached 0 (technically 0.1-0.9) you would not have a delay, but if your shield read 0 (could be 0.1-0.9) you have to wait, what 7 seconds? and have to fit a module to compensate that?
why must shield users fit 2 different types of modules to get what an armour repairer can? Wait I'm forgetting something, reactive plates give hp bonus AND repair, so they only have to fit ONE module, if you fit shield rechargers and shield regulators, you STILL have to fit HP modules.
I don't run shields, I melt shields, I love my scrambler rifle, but I care about this game being balanced and shield buffs have been a big topic lately, I hope this brings something to the table

The irony is shields are supposed to rep faster than armor.
It's compensation for lower HP (in theory)
WoW has taught me that Purple means Legendary. This means Quafe suits are the optimal loadout for killing all of you.

They do rep faster than armor, the problem is that also is "in theory", in practice they dont unless you take yourself out of the battle, meaning if you have a 5 shield suits vs. 5 armor suits the shield suit team is always down a few players while regen is active, which turns the fight into a series of 2v4s or 3v5s (armor suits generally have to stop fighting less frequently because their regen is always active, but shields have to stop fighting to get any regen at all, and then you add in armor reppers and nanohives and the regen actually becomes significantly better for the armor suits, balanced!). |

I disagree with this being a fix to shield suits. The biggest problem imo is the scr, specifically on the amarr assault. Shield suits are fine, if you know how to use them properly, against most other weapons. However, no amount of instantaneous or delayed shield recharge can cope with a weapon that is capable of such an insane amount of anti shield dps. No other weapon, armor damaging or shield damaging, can even come close. Plus the charge shot... Woof.
If you want balance, think of ways of balancing the scr first. Charge shot always overheats... More damage from overheat... Change amarr assault bonus to reduction in overheat damage... Remove the microcharge damage. Stuff like that.

I am calling for a nerf on the SCRs DPS, you hold your opinion and I hold mine, the fact that they differ is to be expected, I believe that with those 2 changes implemented, shield users will have a better time,

While the scrambler is a disproportionate problem for shield users, it also affects armor tankers, and its not even close to the only problem shield tank dropsuits face in terms of balance. The lack of support equipment is a huge deal for shield suits, particularly since their one single advantage in the game, regen, is completely nullified by rep tools and triage hives. The lack of strong native armor regen for shield suits means their armor hp pool takes full minutes to come back, compared to only ~20-30 seconds for un-modded armor suits' shield pools. Flux grenade is a huge weakness for shield suits which armor suits in general are much less susceptible to. And more.
As much as the scrambler needs to be nerfed or reworked, its not even close to the only problem (also the tac AR is close to the SCR in performance, it will probably also need to be changed before we're done). |
