I have been seeing a lot less OBs lately. Since the reduction to 4 man squads, did the warbarge threshold get reduced as well? I don't think the limits changed and it has become harder to hit with the recent squad size changes.
We should discuss what the orbital was meant to do in the game. What was the expected outcome and purpose of orbitals?
I will make a spreadsheet after I know what the community thinks orbitals should be doing.
1. Turn the tide of a losing battle (The WP required should be a negative amount based on remaining MCC life and WP gained to provide the most advanced squads of a losing battle a tool to turn the tides)
2. Reward for victory for the top squad. This typically has made the winning team win more. (The current WP calculations should be fine just reduced to allow X number of orbitals based on the average WP per squad per match.)
3. Create a tool for a rising squad to dig out the defenses of a defensive enemy. (Make the WP a meter that increases over time but that also lowers over time. Then you need to persist with a drive to get a OB.)
4. Provide turning points in a battle and force teams to relocate or be rained on with death. (Add in break points in total MCC health/Clone counts that trigger an orbital to be rewarded to the highest WP squad. This ensure X orbitals per match.)
Please provide what you think an orbital should do in a match. This is a smaller change that CCP might be able to execute on which will trigger changes in combat.

2k for flux. Idk. I just know that it's 3200 for major warbarge strike. (Not the major laser)
3200 for a major warbarge strike on a 4 merc team means it is coming at the end of battle or 3/4 through for a rofl stomp.
4 mercs, each need 800 WP. Say you are a slayer, that is killing straight up solo as a scout or assault, 13 mercs lives each! I can do that, but 4 mercs doing that. You just genocided the enemy team with 53 kills. Yeah, that is a lot to expect from 4 mercs. The best logis can farm around 2k per match in pubs and most mercs I see hover around 1k in the veteran scotty matches.
A new player will never see a warbarge because they will take months to get to the level to watch the squad lead drop a major laser orbital strike.

Enough of the bullshit of a squad dropping an orbital on top of themselves to make them invincible while they hack. Orbitals should be tactical. I'd find it difficult not to nuke the biggest blob availabe, blue or red, every OB. There'd have to be some serious consequences for FF, and even then I'd still be tempted. @ OP - Add a Logi or two to your squad. Lots of easy WP fast.
So experienced forum warriors, please help drive this topic somewhere useful and not dig into WP values until we know if WP is the correct unit. What do you think an OB should be used for in battle? - I don't have issues getting them, except when I am one of the last 6 guys in the match (happens lots in pubs because of the chickens bailing out and I see those matches where I can really wrack up kills).
Just a response to all the Logi comments that are off topic: 3-3.5k per match on a logi is a GOOD logi map with skilled logis and heavies to rep. I can pull that if I have the right conditions too. Sometimes you are getting so stopped it is impossible and my heavy is requested more than my logi. That was not my point in the post. I want to start a discussion on the tactical aspect of an OB. They used to be pivotal and awe inspiring. Now the fights where both teams stick it out are those that see an end game OB used for effective purposes, not to farm red line kills. The average WP for pubs sit around 1k per merc, so a 4 man team will be hard pressed to get an OB. Pay attention to the other players on your team vets and don't bring in the egos.
What I run typically: AM Sent lvl5 - Always Freedom AHMG - Suit varies on team skill Min Logi lvl5 - Always six kin rep tool - Suit varies on team skill
WP isn't the problem and I have the isk to run that all day.

Honestly don't see any problem with current OB frequency or performance, other than the Minor Flux being worthless due to an overly restrictive radius. They should just get rid of minor flux and keep it as a single strike but an actual orbital strike. That could be fun.
Thanks guys +1 you both. This is what I wanted to get from this post. If it just me who feels they are worthless except for humiliating a foe or the 1 out of 10 games where you get down to the wire.
I was thinking of providing an OB to the team when the shields drop would be a good addition? I think there aren't enough OBs. Am I crazy?
