No coding necessary! Unless you want to get into scripting dialogue, quests, in-game events. Although that has always been the most needed and lacking department.

For the actual world-building, the editor is extremely straight forward. Drag, drop, rotate objects and a handful of keyboard hot keys.

I actually learned a lot of coding/scripting by messing around in the editor later on, but never got that into it to actual help much with the quests.

Edit: Oh and play testers are actually always in demand as well. You'll be given the latest in-progress build with a list of existing quests. Basically just go and find ways to break them and report if you are successful. And obviously keep your eyes open for other bugs or mistakes
