None of you actually has any idea what you're talking about, because networking systems do not work like that.
First off, let me be clear that I in no way defend those players/corps accused of using/abusing lag to their advantage. I cannot say what they are doing (if anything), or whether the accusations hold water.
I can, however, tell you that it is not a DDoS attack.
DDoS, or Directed Denial of Service, attacks leverage one or more botnets to continuously ping a server. A PS3 system, your average home computer, cellphone, laptop, tablet, whatever, is a client device.
Which automatically makes it immune to DDoS attacks. Moreover, the IP address assigned to your home devices isn't the address that is used for Internet communication- a home router will have an "internal" and an "external" address. The internal one is used to communicate with any and all devices on your home network. The external address is used to communicate on the Internet- it's a measure used due to the limitations of IPv4 addressing.
Additionally, the tools necessary to do this are generally specialized, and quite frankly do not work in the way you ascribe them to. It is not possible for another player to ping your PS3's IP address, because your PS3 uses an internal network address that is not accessible across the Internet.
It is also not possible for them to attempt to attack your home router, as it is not possible for them to know the router's external address. Only the CCP servers will know that information, and they are not sharing it. Even the CCP developers and personnel who maintain the Tranquility server cluster aren't going to know your router IP address.
So no, there are no DDoS attacks (because if there were, they'd be directed at the CCP server clusters, in which case you would not be able to play DUST at all).

That being said, they do not work on Dust.
They only work when one of the players hosts the game, at which point the hosting player can use it. I think CoD is one auch game that uses player hosting. I.e. their PS gets picked as the host for the game.
At least that is my understanding of lag switching.
Most console shooters use peer-to-peer networking. One client is often appointed as the "host" wherein that system is used to time all information transfer between clients so that you don't get exceptionally weird goings on.
Whether or not it works well is another issue entirely....

*sigh*
I realize that. I actually read the rest of the thread where that was, in fact, stated on the first page.
What I was doing was refuting the idiocy-fueled moronic idea that somehow a corp is conducting DDoS attacks against individual PS3s, which is impossible.
I then commented that most console shooters use P2P architecture for their multiplayer, as opposed to client/server architecture, like DUST.
So please, do not try to tell me something I already understand.
