tbh I hope ratatti has the marbles to kick out any trolls of cpm early on and replace them with a runner up this time around....
Losing judge since like day 1 was a blow cpm1 had to deal with and they did pretty good job without him. Biomassed kept people updated and many active cpm participated ingame,forums, and even a podcast. Despite all the cpm hate. You guys did well. However just because you guys did well is no excuse for ccp to let themselves and let this game get trolled.

Our lists overlapped on 4 candidates.
Approached the vote from several angles, team player being # 1, but also gave a slim priority to candidates who who have shown they can step back and see Dust from a big-picture New Eden perspective and value the game in that context.
Because that is the entire vale of the game to me: as a second(or third, with Valkyrie) portal into the New Eden universe.

Vrain, I was a big proponent of that greater universe and link thing, but it is no longer a big focus of CCP's vision. In multiple public statements they've stated they want to make each separate game great on its own. While I'd like to see more link, the game needs to be in a much better state before talking about it would make any headway woth CCP.

Agree on all points. Also familiar with every statement CCP has made regarding Dust. The stand-alone requirement for both games is pretty much a game design given, so CCP scores minor points for stating the obvious. You're preaching to the converted re the game being in a much better state, my post history on the value of fundamentals is as old as the archived forums.
Also agree that integration at this time is a flat out impossibility and should be - Dust is still in a poorish beta state, and that's being generous.
But nonetheless, my sole motivation for being here, and possibly the same is true for a sizable chunk of the playerbase as well, is to work toward an eventual full integration with EVE. Some see this as a the goal, some don't.
Why is this important? Because every design choice we collectively make presents an opportunity to prepare the game(or it's successor) for a far-distant integration with New Eden. Every design choice can bring us closer to that goal or move us away from it - we have a lot of freedom here, technical limitations aside, to shape the game as we see fit.
There are questions we should ask when considering each proposed change to Dust: 'How does this affect the NPE?', 'What does this do for immersion?', 'How will this change moment-to-moment gameplay?', 'Does this give players meaningful choices?'.... as you know, this list of game design questions can be long, tangled and often contradictory.
Somewhere, imo, near the top of that list of design priorities should be 'How does this choice bring us close to eventual full integration into New Eden?'
If you agree then i propose it is far better to think through integration/immersion issues now, with the opportunity to learn as we go, than to hope such decisions will somehow resolve themselves in the future.
Last post itt, and apologies - not here to derail, but had to say something - New Eden needs somebody to stand up for her here in the Dust world.

Have to agree.
Not to smear or trash talk or anything, but seeing as CPM's primary role is as a communicator, attitude will be a big factor.
We need someone who can be told no, and take criticism, without taking personal offense.

Though New Eden is all of the games, and standing up for DUST matters just as much, if not more, than standing up for EVE. With any luck, someday EVE devs will have to design sometimes to accomodate us, rather than the other way around. ;)

another thing is I think he is serious and I would like candidates to treat this seriously. I would hate to see another judge. Some candidates from the last election who lost have quit the game and never came back. Judge left during his term. Even Zatara took a break from playing dust (he admits but also says that he still attended meetings) . But even so... How can you help further develop a game your not playing? Its not my place to dictate who plays what game but that is why I want someone who loves this game regardless of the pitfalls so I don't have to worry about it. He falls, he gets back up. He doesn't spend hours outside of this game coming up with new ideas, design concepts, art for absolutely no reason. Those activities are something you would expect from a cpm. I admire his persistence and support his ambition to become cpm.
Which sales pitch is better?
"I will do this and that and this if elected..."

"I have already done this and this and that. I designed merc suits on paint or whatever.. I post ideas regularly."
I know that is not his actual sales pitch but I firmly believe that actions speak louder than words.

I sure members of the community can vote for members who are responsible or representing areas of the game we want to see more ideas pumped into on our own.

Thankfully, CPM as players are free to post almost anything we want. ;)
In part, due to the closed nature of the CPM, it can be more difficult for regular community members to know what being a CPM is like, and what sort of attitude works or doesn't work for the job. We're in a great position to predict who will be good CPM members and who will not.
The community members definitely can vote for who they want. And as a community member, I'm free to make posts recommending people vote one way or the other, just like anyone else. Being CPM doesn't make me not a player anymore, it doesn't make my opinion irrelevant, and I'm free to express it outside of the limitations of the NDA.

I'm not sure Z has a PS3 anymore. But I'd actually say after filling out a term that actively playing the game has little to do with CPM job effectiveness. Our own personal experience in game isn't generally as important as the feedback we receive from other players anyways. In fact, I didn't even look at in-game activity numbers when determining my list.

Absolutely. If our feedback to CCP was based on our own experience rather than the community's, we wouldn't be doing that great of a job. You need to understand the game, definitely. But I can provide focused feedback on a patch without actually playing it.

that is not what I meant. The part about relaying the community opinion was the ONLY GOOD THING YOU SAID. I don't expect cpm to no life the game or whatever but when they actively do not play for weeks or months on end... That just tells me that they do not care as much as they pretend they do. Are they frustrated with the game and want a break? Well so are we. The community is fustrated and we voted you guys in to solve the situation. Going on vacation is NOT helping the community AT ALL.

You know... I probably should not be surprised. You remember how from the very start I have been saying to kick judge off and get someone else. You defended him till nearly the very end. For months you made excuses for him. Maybe excuses he told you? who knows but by end term your attitude changed to "Well it's too late now. it would be counterproductive at this point to catch the new guy up... ect.. ect." something along those lines.
And now you defend this.. How can you even understand community opinion if you don't play? How can you explain to CCP the pitfalls of dropships if you rarely fly one? How do you express community concerns about a newly released update when a new patch is only tested for a few hours before they log and go to a new game and not come back for weeks? seriously? Activity and understanding the state of the game is important. We seem to have differing views on what exactly would qualify as a decent cpm. The performance of many of the cpm I have seen so far has not been decent. It seems like you are just looking around you at what everyone else is doing and accepting it as the standard. That is no way to work. Set high standards for yourself and push yourselves forward. Be the best you can be or at least try too. Not just in CPM but in all things.

I am not attacking you. You do not have to make excuses. You did your job and fulfilled your obligation and commitment to the best of your ability. I believe that and I will vouch for that. But your viewpoints in my opinion are wrong and you are wrong to defend your fellow cpm for their mistakes. It is not improving or helping anything. In fact I think you are further destroying this game by reenforcing that all this BS is acceptable. It is not acceptable. A line has to be drawn somewhere but you never had the backbone to draw the line. Again I am not really insulting you, I did compliment you earlier. This is constructive criticism you did good in many ways but you can be wrong too.

Regarding Judge, he seemed to have a plausible justification for a while. When he came back, and then ditched off again immediately, I stopped defending him. I was never a big fan of his (I advocated people not vote for him) but I gave him the benefit of the doubt.
I don't fly dropships when I play, GJR. So it doesn't matter if I'm playing the game or not when passing on feedback on dropships. As barely anyone really plays every single role, your point only highlights my point.

You realize you're saying you're a good as candidate as Dust User is, right?
He actively used to get people together to do stuff, in game, and has been the front man for a lot of the content the community has seen in the past year and a half, with Roman and Cuse.
While your Podcast and Blogs are nice - what he does actually effects the game. You don't. So if you find yourself a viable candidate then you're basically endorsing that idiot too, lol |

There were like what, 200 votes last time? :/ It was a pretty sad showing.
Here's to another year of CPM accomplishing....not a whole lot in terms of making this game actually playable and note worthy. Maybe there's enough noobs this time around who still have faith so there might actually be a slight voter turn out this year. Again, not that it makes any difference to the actual game itself. |

I don't fly dropships when I play, GJR. So it doesn't matter if I'm playing the game or not when passing on feedback on dropships. As barely anyone really plays every single role, your point only highlights my point.

This attitude of yours makes you ignorant. Think of it this way. A professor goes up to you and explains to you a lesson. Now you go home and try to explain the lesson to a friend of yours. Will you be half as knowledgeable as the professor on the subject just with one lesson? one talk? Will you completely understand it?? Can you relay the message just as well? No you will not. You may understand the basics but that doesn't make you an expert. In this case, ccp should just skip you altogether and just go straight to the player that does know what he is talking about. Or we can have someone that does play. That does test all features. That is very versatile in game and can understand and communicate effectively between all players and CCP. The way you make it sound... to me it sounds like a half- assed job. I do not want that in this next cpm. I have standards and I expect them to be met.

That is why I don't know how Soraya got elected.. Has such a bad attitude and thinks high of himself because of it.. If he doesn't play anymore I think the feedback he passes off shouldn't matter because I doubt he is getting feedback from community.

That's tremendously depressing actually, that so many people still have faith after the game has quite clearly hit a dead end. I blame new players mostly, the ones who haven't seen how the game has actually "progressed". The rest of you? I have no explanation for that.

There were 936 (or 937, there's disagreement on this for some reason) votes last year, and yeah, about 300 were just for Judge. Breaking the old election total in one day means many more players this year know what the CPM is, and want to be involved in making this game better than it is.
