No, CPM do not know; and I don't either. The theories to FIVE ONE FOUR has eluded the mass public since inception. The clues are there.
Dust on the other hand; there is something so very primal about the name that relates to us as immortal soldiers it doesn't take much thinking to find meaning with it about the whole screwed up situation we'd all share within this game universe.
I mean how profound is that word when your are born into your immortality with you coming to terms and crossing the line that separates you from mortal hood. As for the OP, eh the title is as good as any other imo. In fact at least it's more original than half the games out there, especially sequel games that just keep tacking numbers onto the original name.
I will admit however the story/history of this game fails pretty hard. You get that opening movie and that's about it. I had no idea about any the factions or anything till that PlayStation home event came out that gave you the free car for watching each the faction video's in that game.
You had to go to a separate game to get the back story of Dust....
To really learn anything about anything you got to look at the Eve connection but frankly that's so massive and been going on for years it could fill a section in a library if they were printed into books. So New Eden and the Dust world has an immense back story and in depth setting, but we never get to see it in the game itself.
Kind of reminds me of those old games on the original NES or even Atari that had a huge story built up that you would never know about unless you read the manual.

To a person unfamiliar with the game, this title makes no sense. Is it a game about dust particles? What does 514 stand for? What genre is it?
Even the veterans of the game don't know what DUST514 stands for and I'm willing to bet Rattati doesn't know as well. At least titles like Call of Duty, Battlefield, Counter-Strike, etc. make some sense. They even give some indication as to what type of games they each are.

Dust 514 totally sounds and looks like a first person shooter, maybe you should taste it just to be sure. I knew what it was when I first came across it. Then I started playing and got very addicted to it and other than playing this game until I turn to dust. I always thought it was as simple as Eve was full of pilots and Dust was mercs in the dirt but that was my noobie impression. Now I have seen plenty of lore and others interpretations. All I can say is good stuff and I wouldn't want the name to be anything else!
