It's an inside joke so far as I can tell.
But it stands out among the pack because it doesn't try to out-edgy the competition names.

I really have no opinion. I feel that if the active gameplay stood on it's own merits without needing rattati to roadmap the day he and his team eviscerate and rebuild the code then the title wouldn't matter.
It would be all about the havoc.
It would be all about reducing your enemies to nanite- scorched DUST.
WoW has taught me that Purple means Legendary. This means Quafe suits are the optimal loadout for killing all of you.

One, sand attack can't be "super effective" considering it affects a stat and not HP, IE accuracy.
Two, one could interpret this as an attempt at misdirection on Rattati's part to avoid the question being answered.

i like the name... plus we already have lore for all of it and its quiet interesting once you get to know why its named like that and all. also because when we die, it looks like we become dust, but really its just the nanites taking care of that.

Never really liked the name. I always got a funny look when some one asked me what game I played mostly and I simply responded "Dust".
