I think that if anything were to change, it would be more appropriate to change the replenish speed, rate, or nanite cost, rather than cutting the functionality out completely

That's kinda misleading, because in EVE damage types don't do bonus damage to certain tanking types like they do in Dust. If DUST used the same sort of mechanics as EVE, armor would have 0% resistance and shields would 40% resistances. Inversely shields would have 0% resistance to lasers and armor would have 40% resistance. In effect its very similar, just presented in a different way.
So if you made shield resistance 50% in DUST, it would have an effective resistance of 70% which would be....insane

Rails and plasma would be an even 65-75-ish percent damage vs both. They're the even performers.
Lasers would be 100% vs shields, 50% vs armor.
That's total damage done there wouldn't be bonus damage just overall penalty vs tank type.
Well I was just using the 40% spread we have in Dust. I know the actual values are different in EVE but even then the direct translation doesnt really work given how weird DUST's damage profiles are in comparison.

Worst case, I can see not letting hives restock nades. They already don't stock REs.
Sorry to call you out Breakin, but you're wrong on this one. Hives DO restock RE's. I have a Cal Logi fit I use for expressly this purpose. With a Standard Hive and F/45 nades, I can throw down 6 hives (one at a time obviously). Each hive replenishes 7 RE's. If you include the first 3 on the fit, I can throw out 45 RE's on a single fitting without having to go to a supply depot.
This is a little disturbing..
