I'm pretty sure he's new, I remember I averaged 500-700 when U was a LOGI for heavens sake.
If I insult you in some way, it's probably by accident.

With the assault starter class I am averaging 700+ war points per battle. So is it really necessary?
But, then again, I only have 3m isk....
Any opinions? I'd like to hear them
With Standard gear and the new suit layouts?... No. Proto are for those who cannot aim, or have bad awareness. You can kill just as well in Standard gear, in fact I have killed people with Meta level 25+ with my 4 meta suits.
While the suits are a major handicap, if you want to get better, you have to use Standard gear. That way, when you switch over for a PC match, everything seems freakishly easy to kill.

Not new, have had my account for over 2 years, it's just that I've just started becoming good. 700 war points is my average, though I've hit 1000-1300 regularly

I have also decided to slowly amass the skills to get a nice Proto assault dropsuit. Thank you for all the insightful advice! |

Hell, I have a 1 mil SP alt that brings in anywhere from 1.5 K WP to 2K WP, and makes a vet's day insufferable. And that's with no equipment -- save for that random Nanohive. Using what? My alt is a slayer, and this account uaed to be a logi, until I got a free respec.
I made 2 additional accounts a little while back, but no passive SP. One is Amarr Assault -- and armor tanking is NOT for me. The other is another Caldari Assault. That one I f*ck sh*t up with.
I made another PSN account for my brother's Gallente Scout character, but I don't touch that. Minmatar and Gallente isn't for me.

That's almost like saying "Do you really NEED to spend SP on skills?"
I was like you once in the early days...90% of my playtime (until I finally became a 10m SP player) was spent using starter fits only... Never bothered to build my own suits or even understand what goes into effective custom fittings...
But you'll see the light... Sooner or later, seeing that endless list of all-too-familiar names in the killfeed: Ishukone... CreoDron... Kaalakiota... Allotek... Boundless... Wiyrkomi... Viziam... And you'll wonder what it is the other players know about those brand names of devastation that you have yet to figure out...
And then you'll really grind for the precious SP like never before, and spend as if your real-life existence depended on it! Just another gamer caught up in the CCP web... |

The same logic still applies -- Why even use proto gear in PC then, especially if it's supposedly "freakishly easy"? |

No. I'm happy with my Sever logi or Kaalakiota Assault suits but every now and then I like to pull out the expensive suit. |

It depends on the person. You can be trash and play terrible with proto gear or any other gear. You can really good and do well enough with just basic gear, not even advance, and kill people with proto. Depends on the person. i rip people apart in pubs with my multia forge gun suit

Well, I do better in Proto than when I'm in Advanced as a general rule, but that's to be expected really.

Shield's are in a poor place, using Prototype is closely the only way for armor v shield balance.
Basic and ADV shield modules are goofed up having extremely high CPU and PG, add to the fact that shield's die in second's to everything, you can't win in one without proto, it's UP, it's broken, it's like your ancient grand father from times past gave you hand-me-down's of the oldest suit, that HE used to wear when it was "cool".
(Not insulting grandfather's anywhere, just stating a fact that shield's suck).

Second opinion.
Using Proto is ok if used from time to time. When you use nothing but proto it sucks. It's a game con that it allows you for such a thing (player's mentality also count).
It's original Dev team fault really. They built the game as a mmo shooter. But they forgot that in mmo, you can't put new players vs old. It's like setting a fight between 80kg office guy a 115kg boxer.
In the end, it really comes up to the NPE, doesn't it?

2 weeks ago perhaps. but since tierciede they're not much different to a sever, roden, kaalakiota ect. i'll slap militia bpo mods on stuff i need to change and only 'real' mod i've made ot my shaman is slapping a six kin repper on it, which i do/did to my sver logi anyway.
tbh you'd have more luck calling me a scrub for running my C-II cos that s**t outclasses APEX easily

No you don't. An ADV suit with PG and CPU skills maxed is almost the same as the Proto variant. And a STD rifle with proficiency and other skills maxed gets the job done. |
