I've noticed since I've been back that officer weapons are fairly common in pubs. They weren't non existent in the past, but they also weren't consistent.
How are people getting so many officer weapons?
Why are they taking them into pubs?

Well, I been playing since closed beta so I have a little stock pile of the original officer gear.
With a open market I feel a little easier about spawning in and playing with them as I could potentially buy them back at a later date.
So when I Q Sync against my corp I'll pull out the heavy gear to murder my Hellstorm brothers and dance circles on their proto corpes.
Over 60+ Million SP and full proto in all Caldari Suits. Dust just won't die on PS3/Xbox. Dustin since 6/29/2012

I think its perfectly understandable to bring out officer weapons in certain circumstances as you described, but what gross quantity do people have access to that allow them to run them in pubs? Not a rarity like before, but a consistent once every 3-5 games. That is, I see a group of these offenders at least once every 3-5 games.

In my case, it's simple pooling of resources.
In my circle of friends, we each have our preferred gear from the Experimental Lab, and we freely exchange it when we get something each other prefers.
Plus, there are plenty of people willing to spend ridiculous sums on Officer gear through Player Trading. |

Yes and lockboxes will almost always give you officer weapons of some description. |

I suppose enabling people to purchase officer weapons with aurum means this trend has no tipping point to where a decrease will be seen due to lack of supply.
So this dramatic increase in officer weapons pub match or otherwise is here to stay.

Several things happened while you were away....
- A warbarge subsystem was implemented that provides you with a handful of officer weapons/dropsuits each day. At level 1 you receive 2 pieces of officer gear every 24 hours. Not sure how many level 5 gives you.
- Player trading was enabled. People who have no use for officer weapon X can now give it to another player for an officer weapon they actually have SP in.
- Strongboxes occasionally drop officer gear.
- If you open 10 strongboxes at once you are guaranteed at least one rare item. In most cases this is a piece of officer gear.

Now you see one of the big issues for new players. All the guys calling HTFU never played games with 2/3 of the other side packing officer gear. It takes one shot from any officer snipe to take out most basic or lower fits, and that's not even a head shot. Not to mention the 20% EHP that most guys have not compared to a year ago from the suits. So, of late I have just come to the conclusion CCP wants the game to peter out and die, because right now less than 1/100 new guys are staying around more than 2 weeks. Match make these guys with each other so there is a lot greater chance of losing those builds and maybe they will have spend the hoards of ISK on suits instead of just farming away. |

Its not the ability to do things in small quantities that is in question. It is the ability to do things in large quantities. Right now some players have virtually limitless resources while others do not. This wouldn't be a problem if high rollers where facing other high rollers and new players didn't have to perpetually face horrendous disadvantages due to poor matchmaking.

What? You do realize if a person where to pay into this game now their rate gaining access to different things would far outpace an individual who does not.
Paying players get access to more things sooner, not based on their work, instead how much money they've given to CCP. That is what people are paying for. That is the cash grab. These things are only being placed in game now for the benefit of the company. The players are being used.
Not that it is my authority to tell people how to spend their money. However I've invested time in this game and this sort of p2w crap cheapens it.

And we are saying the game, in general, is not a cash grab. You can obtain things through play. This is a F2P game, fellas. That means you pick 'Do I want to spend time?' or 'Do I want to spend money?' to get X thing.
APEX dropsuits: FW grind or AUR Boosters: missions or AUR SKINs: FW, strongboxes, or AUR Officer weapons: warbarge, player trading, or strongboxes (all can be sped up with AUR purchases)
See how the F2P payment model works now?
Z3dog wrote:Paying players get access to more things sooner, not based on their work, instead how much money they've given to CCP. Now you are getting it! Oh i understand.
You see the model for a f2p game allows people to play freely, but adds things that must be payed for. After all the company needs to make money. It is the advantages monetary payment gives that determines if a game is p2w. Naturally it is more interesting and more fair to players for a game not to be p2w.
Nobody brought up apex dropsuits in this thread, but they do provide an advantage toward isk accumulation instantaneously. (having no skill requirements). Apex I think at this point might not be an issue.
Booster's benefit is spread over time and these have been around forever. Even before all of these other things. Boosters also provide a natural limit to progress even if it is accelerated. Only under rare circumstances are boosters offered that don't require aur. Sp instant boost on the other hand is worth mentioning because it is INSTANT and makes it absurdly easy to get large amounts of sp quickly. Check my signature.
Who cares about skins? they have no effect on gameplay as in they provide no advantage in the game. Skins i think are actually a wonderful way for CCP to make money.
What you fail to grasp is that a non paying player cannot compete with a regularly paying player. the issues have a spectrum that range from quality of equipment, the frequency of that equipment, and the financial benefits. The key word is CANNOT. Not might not. THEY CANNOT COMPETE RIPLEY.

A free player can play matches and earn ISK just like paying players can. Free players can accumulate ISK with starter or standard/militia fittings in pubs. Free players can earn loyalty rank 2 then sell their officer drops for ISK as well. I bought some Krin's ARs from a guy who has not purchased AUR before. He got a fat wad of ISK from me and has not spent a cent on this game.
Again, paying customers can accumulate ISK faster. That goes back to my original point: 'Do I want to spend money?' or 'Do I want to spend time?'

They cannot obtain the advantages paying players receive. A non paying player cannot earn 100,000 sp in a single battle for example.
Contrary to what you imagine money in exchange for time is not a requirement for a f2p game.
