What if the people that aren't at the ship's guns could use their default weaponry (like in all those movies where you see soldiers shooting their rifles out the helicopters) rather than just sitting there helpless waiting for either a good landing or a chance to take the guns... this could also make aerial battles more interesting with forge guns, plasma cannons, and swarm launchers (that if not aimed properly could actually damage the user or dropship they may happen to be in)?????
Well, what do other players think??? |

It would be overpowered... Dropships can already just fly off the map to where they can't be hit any time they take damage, while at the same time shooting missles down at angles a tank can't shoot back. The issue here is that if a gunship has the ability to use it's guns AND forge or swarm, then it'll be a 3 second kill on a tank. Just turn sideways and pow... all shoot at once.
I would say it'll promote people just flying around shooting at objectives, but that would be countered by less people on the field for you to deal with other than watching the flying ones.

You may have a point... however another point to be made is that there would be no ability to restock ammo or be healed in any way (except for reactive armor plates... and obviously shields still work normal). I think this could encourage stronger anti-aircraft setups as well as stuff like dropship sniping (etc.) for the occupants (not to mention that there is no biofeedback for the passengers... it would be guess work for the pilot). This could also encourage more airship spawning. And I do see your point, but perhaps the prices of the dropships could then be increased and tanks decreased (if you ask me this should already be happening). It may also be possible to make a ship that has no turrets, just passengers (sorta the opposite of the Gladius)... maybe this ship could be made to be the only one with this option, and/or cost much more... Not to mention that targeting can be really screwy and difficult from a dropship many times, and swarm launchers fired from up high often have trouble hitting their targets unless they are uniquely aimed (which wouldn't be possible in a dropship... it'd have to be low relative to a tank. Think about it (you take that ship out you get 7 kills) this actually makes the dropships more of a target rather than less of one...
I'm just tired of seeing aerial battles between two skilled pilots come down to either ramming (martyrdom), swarm/forge shots fired from the ground, or simply firing at each other as they pass each other in their blind-spots until the battle is over (essentially doing nothing)...
Any counter to that??? (Sincerely interested.) |

This has been brought up many times since beta.
Everything but the 4 light AR's would pretty much be OP.
My solution was to restrict firing to when the DS doors are open, and then make the doors auto close when you exceed 25M altitude (AGL), or around 30 KM/H ground speed.
Basically I just like the idea of a DS coming in for a landing, and before the troops jump out, the bay doors open up with all the mercs inside firing their rifles as they're jumping out. ... sweet.

Yeah, that's part of what I am going for but the other thing is I want to see more air to air battles... Maybe dropships should have Air to Air missiles (similar to swarm)... Whatcha guys think??? (Come on I really want some feedback on this topic... I can see it going in so many directions... don't just look... REPLY!!!!!) |

It sounds like a very difficult AV strategy to counter.
Put your flags up in the sky.
And wave them side to side.
Show the world where you're from.
Show the world we are one.

The point is that you wouldn't counter it with a tank... you would counter it with av weapons, sniping, and most importantly DROPSHIPS!!!!! :) That's what I see a lot of people missing here DROPSHIPS should be able to counter (if fact it should be automatic) DROPSHIPS!!!!!!! I WANNA SEE MORE DOGFIGHTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol :) |

Jenni, for dog fighting between dropships, the small railgun is ideal. If you have a single gunner with a small railgun mounted, they can take out another dropship in about 15 seconds. If the target gets away, it's very difficult for them to return. Currently the endless dogfights that paralyze both pilots are often with the missile launcher, which is useless against another dropship. I feel you just haven't yet been exposed to what can be possible with the small rail.
Know what cannot be known.

That's odd, because I was using a small railgun as a gunner and hitting but it wasn't doing hardly any damage... when it did the enemy simply flew overhead... What about the others (has anyone else experienced either of these two occurrences?... which is more prominent)??? |
