Each match has 2 teams. So, if there are 32 players, each team should have 16.
Because there is two teams, you want to divide the player count by 2. For ease, I made you a chart
32/2 = 16 24/2 = 12 16/2 = 8 8/2 = 4
So, now that you have a basic mathematical understanding. Team building and matchmaking should be a lot less frustrating.
For example' 12 players on one team and 16 on the other should be 14 v 14 8 vs 16 should be 12 v 12
or give or take 1-2... not 25-50% unevenness...
For further information about this topic, I suggest a 3rd grade math class.

There is just one problem with your math.
Are there even enough players logged in at any given hour for this to work?
Think about it.
There are four game modes in pub matches and several battle servers. Then there is FW and PC to consider. Then there are players who dedicate themselves to being traders in the secondary market. How many do you think would be available per match?

In Dust 514 players are able to form squads.
Squads group players together in matches.
Simply dividing total players by 2 will not work as long as players choose to play in squads.

we could just introduce autobalance(no not really im just screwing around) from tf2. if its uneven, just swap a player to the other team and even it out.

Dude, that argument is completely flawed by the evidence. Obviously the game has enough players to make the match.
However properly dividing the team by 2 seems to be the problem.
IDC if it's 14 v14, 3v3, 9 v8... just so long as the match has close to equal players on one side.

Why not?
It makes 0 sense that randoms and squads can't properly be even.

I was considering this today. If the teams are 16 v 10 why doesnt scotty just balance the fight? Team deploying aside. Queue syncing as well.

You didn't take squads into account. How is MM supposed to build even teams with uneven numbers? Should it divide squads in half and throw them separately?

Let me se, somehow CCP regularly had 16vs16 battle pre bs MM. Either a) fix this **** or b) revert to previous logic.
