Skype is heavily used for communication between CSM/CPM and CCP. For this reason, it's a lot more popular for live chat than IRC. And... my answer below.
G Clone wrote:Actually, Zaria, if you're all about interacting with players, why am I not seeing you on the TweetFleet slack?
Nobody gives a single care about Slack. It's literally cancer. It's security is poor, it's usage model is inane, and any company that uses Slack internally has absolutely lost its marbles.

Let's try not being sexist.

It's literally cancer. It's security is poor, it's usage model is inane, and any company that uses Slack internally has absolutely lost its marbles. There's currently 1247 people on the TweetFleet Slack, incl 26 CCP employees of which at least 9 are online. You may want to direct your comment to them, incl CCP for engaging their customers via this platform. (Note: I'm finding the platform stupid, but have not evaluated it for IT security purposes or corporate usage) Separately, I know people who are literally dying of cancer - I'll check with their oncologists whether they have been caught "Slack".
Down here in DUST-land, it's not really our business as CPM what stupidity Iceland chooses to engage in.
Several Microsoft, Apple, and Google initiatives that were not announced to the public were discovered via a vulnerability in Slack last year, where Slack allows unauthenticated users with fake email addresses to see what Slack rooms and organization had. This is the first, or what is sure to be several major security breaches.
Slack is, fundamentally, a bad product. The goal is to convince people to place internal corporate discussions, which is, by nature, extremely sensitive communication, on the server of a small startup with no real accountability or proven security practice. It provides no real functional improvements over... say... using IRC, which is a robust, open protocol that is well-understood and can be run inside of a secure internal environment.

Zaria Min Deir wrote:The port question is a slightly bizarre one. I hope the community as a whole realises that the decision which platform to port to, and to port at all, is solely on CCP, and the CPM, not matter their personal opinions, will have very little to do with a business decision like that. The CPM can convey their opinions, and relate community opinions, but CCP will most certainly make a such a decision all about what makes sense business wise.
We ask not because the CPM would make that decision, but because it reveals information that a player may find valuable in voting. That being said, CPM feedback is definitely listened to by CCP, and our communications can get passed on up the chain, or influence how discussions are held on some matters. Obviously, something on the level of a platform decision is like a CCP boardroom decision, rather than even a studio decision.
The reasons people give for their platform of choice demonstrate how much a CPM candidate factors in functional challenges, business motivations, community perception, and personal preference. There's also the somewhat valid point of whether some candidates would be completely 'out' should the game move to a different platform they prefer.

My voice is pretty darn annoying. I try not to talk as much as my better-sounding co-hosts.
This link is also just to text, which is why I know you're just being a troll, and didn't "hear" anything.
