Make it clear how your team will deploy. Tell each squad their initial spawn, if they are flying, running or waiting on links. Have each squad leader type in squad chat where their men will be spawning. Make each squads initial target/objective clear as well. A clean deployment is critical, particularly if you are trying to hold the primary socket/city/compound. Also, it is helpful if you know the names of all your players and what they run. Failing that, know who your best utility players are and call them out for specific tasks i.e. "Aramis, spin around and shoot into the sky while everyone else does the actual work". |

Build you squads for the task(s) they will be primarily engaged in.
Example: 4 points rings with squad 1 taking the acid pit letter , squad 2 on the under cover letter and squad 3 vehicles and outside
Squad 1: A gal logi for scans 1 hvy 1 guy who can take overwatch and/or do AV 3 slayers (scouts or light assaults most likely)
Squad 2: 1-3 heavies 1-2 logis (min and possibly and second gal) remainder slayers to patrol, clear pocket, etc.
Squad 3: 1 guy for home point 1 tank on flex from roam to home point 2 ADS (one of which should be able to run infantry well) |

UPLINKS! If you are not a heavy, you should have uplinks on most of your fits. Uplink placement is not just the logis responsibility. Uplink removal is everyone responsibility. |

NEVER use Tanks. There WILL BE aldins and OFFICER swarms. YOU WILL DIE FAST. DON'T listen to amateurs. Vehicles are indispensable. Edit: Also, I'm in your local, Killz. If you need help, just shout.
Every guy running an Aldins or Beacons is one less guy killing your infantry. Even if your tank or ADS does nothing more than deny/harass some area, kill/place some links and occupy a couple guys, the opportunity cost to your opponent is worth it. If you are able to suppress the enemies' AV, a good vehicle pilot can make it impossible for the enemy to operate out in the open. There are certainly situations where you will abandon the use of vehicles (no good pilots around, turtle-ing on interior/covered sockets at the end of a match, enemy has over dedicated to AV), but to make a blanket statement that you should never use a tank is ridiculous. This is particularly true now as the survivability of tanks is high and, as in the OPs situation, the opposition may not have any decent pilots (I make that assumption based on it being your first PC and it is not intended to offend).

If you were a speedhack Scout, you would be using Codebreakers, not Dampeners. theres 2 types of speedhacking: 1. Hacking the point ASAP because you have over watch on it (catwalk for the rings city map...not a good idea-easily warbarged). Uses pure codebreakers, nothing else 2. Hiding at the point until a teammate gets there to cover your back (you need dampeners to avoid gal scans to hide) this method is the most effective as with pure codebreakers and no damps the second you get scanned and they see you at the point, you die and they station 2+ scouts to carefully watch it because they realise your intent to flip
Using an orbital on over watch means it can't be used elsewhere. If you're doing it right, you have uplinks at the null cannon and/or above the supply depot, allowing you to re-establish yourself on the catwalk, even after an orbital. Having the over watch position makes it much easier to hold alpha, while also providing AV to the compound. Moreover, it requires concerted effort to remove someone permanently from the position. It's an excellent force multiplying position that imposes opportunity cost choices on your opponent. What's not to like about that? |
