To survive in DUST 514, you usually need to play extreme playstyles (using suits designed for 1 strong narrow specialised role).
You don't have much SP, thus you don't yet have the ability to create suits that have stats which allow them to fulfill multiple roles very well.
Use a militia amarr or gallente or minmatar light frame with a shotgun. Flank the enemy, don't be seen, always take 200m radius flanking movements around the enemy and attack from behind. Watch your radar sometimes. Always use as many dampeners as you can on militia scouts. the bolt pistol might help when used in combination with shotguns.
(don't play the game like mass effect or COD, it usually don't work unless the enemy has significantly lower tier gear or much less accuracy because of a lack of experience)
Use militia gallente, caldari, minmatar heavies with HMGs or light militia weapons. Use hp mods. This should give you a chance in straight up firefights without cover. Use a magsec SMG as a 45m range weapon on heavies if you are also using a HMG. (you need very good aim to use a magsec, its recoil and aim sensitivity can make aiming confusing) The magsec is like an assault rifle with more recoil.
(you need to have very good aiming skills to win firefights, thus this tactic will start to work after a lot of practice, I would guess you would be half decent at aiming after dying approx. 500 deaths in firefights). Afterwards you might start to win occasionally. Try to avoid firefights with black enemies. they stand a chance against anything. After approx. 1500 deaths you might be pretty good. These are estimates.
Every weapon has different aim sensitivities when aiming down sights. Your aiming skills will usually not transfer over to other weapons because of that.
I changed my aim sensitivities to 4 out of 100 in the options menu. That setting might help or hinder you.
Using logistic medic starter fits are another example of an extreme playstyle (very specialized, narrow, hp restoring support role)
medium suits are good when making versatile fittings. Partly firing from cover in firefights and surprise attacks from behind, moving between objectives, putting down uplinks etc. They are good when supporting a heavy in firefights. You might only get assist kills, but you will help each other survive.
Or follow scouts when flanking, but stay 30m behind those ally scouts. Your scan profile might make enemies detect you and turn around and also accidentally see the ally scout guy and kill him. You wont survive by yourself after the ally scout is dead.
Hope this helps. |

New players should go for bolt pistol. AA helps here quite a lot and it's killing very fast.

You need skills for heavies????
Militia hmg and a militia minmitar heavy will cut through most things. |

Newbros...
You want armor defense and a SCR. In other words, don't pick Caldari.

Caldari suits are crap at std level when used in combination with std level shield mods in comparsion to proto mods with std suits.
regen built suits really need proto regen shield or armor mods, while hp stacked suits in comparison do ok with std and adv hp mods.
regen suits with std mods are hard to ustilise in a cover fight in comparison to hp mods. |

Also, don't engage alone if you can help it. Chances are vets can see you coming. Stay close to but not right with your pack and flank when engagements happen.
