Maybe because when you're on the friendly side, Protostompers take 90% of the kills while on the enemy side you kill the players a lot within such a tiny time span.
Long story short, Protostompers are no fun on either sides of the game. Of course this is what I've gathered from previous topics but with the new match making,Protostompers are no longer the problem. it is those Protostompers that want easy kills now that are the problem since they quit every match until they are matched with the noobs

Wanna know why? Because most protostompers are cowards. Before matchmaking got implemented, sometimes I would see that 6 frienies or 6 enemies left the match and when I go check the ingame leaderboard, either one side has a 6 man squad.
I understand that you earnt it. So did I. But I will barely use my proto gear because I am no KDR padder and I do not need it to have fun. While most protostompers (they are almost always in 6 man squads) play against random new players or people that just suck at the game and completely stomp them while boasting on how good they are but when an actual challenge appears infront of them, they back out and queue up another match hoping to be pinned up against the new players and bad players again.

Why do people not like protostompers? Because very few people enjoy losing, and proto makes it easier to win. |

Think about this your on a team with a protostomper and you just wanna play and get some kills. He is way faster than you and has a higher survivability with stronger guns. How do you feel when in the EoM screen he has about 50 kill with no deaths and you have only 2. Also you have about 20 assists, oh my gawd this dude has been kill stealing.
Think about this on the flipside. You jump in a battle and you wish to play against people with equal grade gear to keep the game fun. You go hack a point and your team guards it for a minute. A dude in Assault mK.0 with Six Kin ACR comes and destroys your team. You shrug it off and redeploy. Seconds later your shot to death by the same person. You redeploy again, seconds later shot again. This will cause your KDR to drop (Even if u dont care about it like me) and cause a negative net in isk in the end. Do you wanna play a game where all you do is die, respawn and let the same person kill you?

Large corps could get a couple territories and "lock" them and they would generate enough free ISK for a lifetime, basically for doing nothing. Hence, there were those who just simply earned free money and could constantly run squads of full proto gear and stomp the daylights out the rest of the casual players who had to grind their ISK the hard (and appropriate) way.
A while back it got irritating for people to run lower level gear (to save money to use for their future proto uses) while others could just come in and stomp you to death with their unlimited and unfair incomes.
Running proto is one thing, but if that's all you run then that begs the question: How did you get the money for all that? It's nice when you can run cheaper gear to build some wealth without the headache of "proto stompers" coming in with their unlimited wealth and slaughtering you when you're just looking for a few casual games.
CCP has made changes to prevent this unfair ISK building through PC lately and I'm sure it helps, but the damage done in the past still lingers today. |

By all means go ahead. With better matchmaking, people who are capable of using protoype gear are more often than not fighting each other.
It was a very big deal until very recently, when stompers whould crush new players relentlessly into the ground. It's partly the reason why matchmaking takes so long now, very few newberries stuck around after going 0-15, so player count never grew. We'll have to wait and see if player numbers can actually recover, but it may be too little to late.

Operative 1174 Uuali wrote:Protostomping isn't about just wearing a proto suit. I completely agree. As I was explaining above you, the term is more aimed at the people who amassed huge fortunes via broken mechanics and constantly use proto against people who don't have the cash to counter them. Using proto gear should be a luxury that you save up for to use on special occasions or when you're in the mood. Proto stompers are kind of like the rich kids who were born into rich families yet pick on you for being broke when they really did nothing special to earn their high quality stuff themselves.- just an analogy- Or even like taking steroids and beating up on someone small, but then claiming there's nothing wrong with it cuz they could work hard and get strong too.
Bottom line, if you use proto ALL the time, we want to know how you got all that cash cuz (at least a while back) it wasn't like you were grinding it like the average citizen; you likely used an exploit to become strong and beat up on the weak. This is where "protostomping" came from, and as I said, it was usually full squads of the big corps (wearing all proto) taking advantage of the weak. Also, I think this fact really hurt the number of players and quality of the game when it should have been in it's prime time to make a name for itself.
CCP really took a dump on itself with that one and this game still is the most unforgiving for new players to try to join in on. Could you imagine being a new player just now starting for the first time? You would be extremely disadvantaged. On that note, new players should start with like 10 mil SP or they won't stick around more than a few fights (unless they're diehards and they only play cuz it's free) |

Those charts are not reliable any more. The switch in console generations has forced the decline over the last half year, as you can see starting in August. People started trying to trade in their consoles to get better turn-in value for the trade up to the Playstation 4.

Sounds more like you stole 20 assist, because if the dude that made 50 kills was not there it would have been 20 deaths instead.
If 1 dude in proto can do that to you and your entire squad, then it's NOT that 1 dude that's the problem.
I don't like those stompers that made all there billions of ISK on broken PC mechanics but I think you are over doing it a little. Try be be more honest and constructive, then people might take you a bit more serious and listen to what you have to say =ƒÿÿ |

My problem is that i no longer have a choice to run high meta gear or not. Proto is a requirement for pubs just to be competitive. You can run low grade gear & die often (which i do, barely ever run over 300ehp) or run proto & hold your own. Even the amount of officer gear in pubs is disheartening.

Just be glad it's not an all-out Officer stomp mainly because those are extremely expensive. Some people are running around in officer suits fitted with officer stuff totaling in the hundreds of the thousands (if not a couple of million) ISK.

Though I'm not too worried because that stuff will whittle down seeing you can't just buy it on the market. People are just trading and using up what they have. So be it...for now. |

What you have to remember is that Player Trade has recently been implemented. This has enabled anyone with Loyalty Rank 2 or above to be able to earn large sums of ISK by selling off their salvage or strongbox loot which is easy to do even for someone who never spend any AUR getting the hacked decryptor keys. And once AUR rewards for Daily Logins get implemented, it will be easier for new players to get to LR2 and start trading.
Think about it.
A dedicated broker or trader can earn boatloads of ISK in a short time without ever going into a match. No loss of assets due to deaths. No drop in KDR or WL. No more worrying about matchmaking or Scotty being drunk again. Just sit in your merc quarters and trade. Eve Online has that too.

I have recently decided to ween myself a bit from proto mainly because I do this occasionally to maintain my skills using advanced gear instead. That and because recently Smokey The Bear claims that scouts are overnerfed and thus useless even though my recent track record with an advanced Minscout with an RS-90 CR and ZN-28 NK (the weakest suit of the bunch) says otherwise.

As the OP say, if you earned Proto (and can afford it) you are free to run Proto 24/7 in my book.
Proto gear is not equal Proto Stomping. Proto stomping is using excessive force against a clearly inferior opponent (gear is secondary).
Before the matchmaking update, these "Proto stompers" we're using Pubs as another form of PVE. There they could crack some beers, **** talk and just chill out while slaughtering new players who didn't know anything about the game.
Now? Now it's very likley you meet opponents who are skilled in the game and also have high Tier gear. So don't be surpriced if you see Proto or even Officer in pubs. |
