well some time has gone buy so I don't know how much the effect has worn down, but most 'proto-stompers' did NOT earn it. The skill points to run proto was earned, but the old major corps got to cash in on hundreds of millions (if not billions) of free ISK while the original PC mechanics were broken. Large corps could get a couple territories and "lock" them and they would generate enough free ISK for a lifetime, basically for doing nothing. Hence, there were those who just simply earned free money and could constantly run squads of full proto gear and stomp the daylights out the rest of the casual players who had to grind their ISK the hard (and appropriate) way.
A while back it got irritating for people to run lower level gear (to save money to use for their future proto uses) while others could just come in and stomp you to death with their unlimited and unfair incomes.
Running proto is one thing, but if that's all you run then that begs the question: How did you get the money for all that? It's nice when you can run cheaper gear to build some wealth without the headache of "proto stompers" coming in with their unlimited wealth and slaughtering you when you're just looking for a few casual games.
CCP has made changes to prevent this unfair ISK building through PC lately and I'm sure it helps, but the damage done in the past still lingers today. |

I completely agree. As I was explaining above you, the term is more aimed at the people who amassed huge fortunes via broken mechanics and constantly use proto against people who don't have the cash to counter them. Using proto gear should be a luxury that you save up for to use on special occasions or when you're in the mood. Proto stompers are kind of like the rich kids who were born into rich families yet pick on you for being broke when they really did nothing special to earn their high quality stuff themselves.- just an analogy- Or even like taking steroids and beating up on someone small, but then claiming there's nothing wrong with it cuz they could work hard and get strong too.
Bottom line, if you use proto ALL the time, we want to know how you got all that cash cuz (at least a while back) it wasn't like you were grinding it like the average citizen; you likely used an exploit to become strong and beat up on the weak. This is where "protostomping" came from, and as I said, it was usually full squads of the big corps (wearing all proto) taking advantage of the weak. Also, I think this fact really hurt the number of players and quality of the game when it should have been in it's prime time to make a name for itself.
CCP really took a dump on itself with that one and this game still is the most unforgiving for new players to try to join in on. Could you imagine being a new player just now starting for the first time? You would be extremely disadvantaged. On that note, new players should start with like 10 mil SP or they won't stick around more than a few fights (unless they're diehards and they only play cuz it's free) |

I'm glad to hear that. Same thing here. Run all the proto you want then cuz you earned it. Though if you DO decide to run it every match all the time, then you know as well as I that that ISK won't last ya too long and you'll be back in that cheap gear. |

yes, I noticed since player trading opened up, we're seeing a lot more officer gear out there. Though I'm not too worried because that stuff will whittle down seeing you can't just buy it on the market. People are just trading and using up what they have. So be it...for now. |
