Funny little piece of technology...
So when I play, for example, Gran Turismo 6, my PS3 gets as hot as it does when playing Dust 514, except the emergency overheat fan doesn't turn on. Why?
I found out that it gets hotter in the merc quarters and during battle, which makes it start the loud cooling process...
I don't know why, I don't know how, but I have a sneaking suspicion, that the cause, is in fact, Unreal Engine 3. |

Mine usually turns off the turbo fans a few minutes later. The wheels keep if off whatever you have it on and allows air to move around it easier.
CCP doesn't have the experience of the first party developers to optimize the game as well as they do and I would say that DUST is doing more things than a GT game, not sure about that but It is constantly talking to the server. The fans slow down? Mine never do, once they reach hair dryer speeds, they stay there. |

So I put my laptop cooling pad under the PS3 but it didn't stop it from overheating again. Damn.
Where do I buy a can of compressed air? |

That game was so brutal on my old ps3 fat that I had to have a pedestal fan directing cool air directly to the nose of the console. It was harsher than gt6 and/or dust could ever dream to be. I played GT5 until GT6 came out. The online support for GT5 was shut down in July last year I think, so there's no point to play it unless you're playing career mode. I didn't have any problems with it. |
