Change thermal paste.
Prop up PS3 horizontally on two wooden dowels.
Stick in freezer.
Clean out and place in front of fan during play time. |

Do not place ps3 in small enclosures. It will continue to recycle its own hot air making it hotter over time. Place it where it is in the open and elevated for air flow underneath if possible. I have not had any problems since I did so.

Put it on a flat surface with at least a foot of space ALL AROUND IT. It shouldn't be heating like that. You must have it to close to something. If that doesn't work, then leave it idk in a chilly basement room overnight and plug and play when you are ready.

It will be over soon, and when the Dust settles, no one will be left playing.

You have a few options.
- Make sure it's in an open space. - Stand it vertical. - You could take it apart and clean the fan with compressed air. (Remember where all the pieces came from!!!)
Other than that... UPGRADE. PS3's should be pretty cheap right now. Look around online for a used one.
Hope that helps.
Who cares what some sniper has to say.

It does not help to back up to external drive, since the data is encrypted to your specific PS3. I would get a new one and do a PS3 <-> PS3 transfer while the old one still works.
I didn't, and lost all my saves (before the PS+ cloud saves were a thing). |

Put Ice packs on top of Ps3. and in front of ps3, maybe even underneath.
That would make your ps3 the coolest ps3 in history. It would be famous. |

Put it nearer the floor, change thermal paste or clear the vents. Hold the eject button while its off, either with the power switch off or cable unplugged. Then, while holding flick it on/plug it in and the console will turn on. The fans should spool up to a very fast and loud speed for 15 secs, it will turn off automatically. Then unplug and use a vacuum cleaner to suck all the dust out of the vents. It should run a little cooler and quieter now.
Defrag your system too if possible, and ideally, backup and format the HUD.
I'm 98% likely to better than you at using any gun.

Vacuum cleaner. Fan vents. Do not do this while it's plugged in. Use a plastic attachment to the hose.
Prop the PS3 upright.
Change the thermal paste.
Use an SSD (no moving parts)
If you poked holes and it's loud Im laughing but it might help airflow.
If it stops overheating you did it right. If it stops working you did it wrong.
There's never enough sh**posting going on, so let's add a few more teaspoons of the guy posting after me to the recipie!

1. open and clean ps3 2. remove and replace thermal paste 3.put a drop of oil on the fan bushing by lifting the shiny sticker on the center of the fan (do not over oil) 4. patiently put you ps3 together making sure everything is put back where it belongs. 5. clean around your ps3 making it free of dust ( ha ha ) 6.not required but certainly helps buy a piece of aluminium or similar alloy (something that does not retain heat) place your ps3 on top.
lmao burned a hole in the bottom safety first goober (UL \CSA NOT APPROVED ) how red is your neck?

The Problem is DUST514 ... when I play Destiny my fan runs... "normal", but each time I'm playing Dust and there are 32 players.... the fan works like a hairdryer...
Change the termal paste, clean the dust and put 2 blocks of wood as somebody say.
I have a Old Fatty (80gb), 4 USB ports, Card readers... Backwards Compatibility... Blueray-dead .. but still running.
