it defines so much of this game.... and its stupid. ive been here forever, tried every gun, and ive never put one point into shotguns, ive never really felt the need. unless im killing a heavy my unskilled dren will still one shot more than 50% of the suits i encounter, the rest are two shots (assuming i dont miss)
lets make it something other than an op instagank tool. thats what knives are for. more range. less alpha. ? how do u feel about the shotty?

I want to play where over 50% of suits have less than 450HP. Over 50% of suits I encounter are Assaults, and I seldom encounter an Assault with less than 500HP.
Shoot scout with yes.

I'd like to see shotguns extended to about 20m range, their dispersion tightened and their damage dropped to about 250/shot. High dps, low alpha. Maybe 280dmg & .7 sec refire time which would give it 85RPM and 400 dps (moderate alpha, moderate dps)
I very much feel shotguns are currently a weapon that only performs on suits with a combination of stealth and footspeed - aka scouts. I very much would like for shotguns to become a robust part of the gallente lineup.

Ive been one shotted in my 700 HP suit before with a shotgun ;d
But shotguns are fine right now, there is a huge risk involved with the weapon to get into the range its useful at, the only time its arguably OP is when its combined with massive speed, stealth, and scanning, which is not nearly as much of a problem since the recent scout nerfs. |

A Proficiency 5 CRG-3 within optimal range hits for an average of 450 damage. It stands to reason that a standard shotgun at operation 0, proficiency 0 will hit for less than 450 damage. Assaults are more widely used than any other suit. An Assault suit with max core skills has more than 450 HP, before he adds a single shield extender or plate.

40 damage per pellet. 12 pellets per shot. 480 damage per round. That's standard level with no proficiency and no damage mods.

I call BS on this thread as well. It usually takes 2 or 3 shots, most people use assaults with way over 500 hp.. Also there is an issue with the first shot not registering, happens to me at times. Not sure if it happens to other people but to me it feels like the first shot at times is a blank even if its dead on target. |

You're welcome to conduct your own experiment.
I tested against a Covenant Assault (C-1) w/ shield extenders in highs, armor in lows. Aimed center mass from the outward edge of 100% efficiency (~4 meters). Test fired something like 20 blasts. There was variation observed in damage dealt, presumably due to errant pellets either flying off target or into face. Damage per blast averaged 450, with variation of +/- 30.

just for the record, i got 2 shot by a dren (obviously with dmg mods) lastnight while in ammar assault all complex plates and 1 basic shield over 1330 hp....
headshots i guess... call "bs" all u want, i speak the truth.

The shotgun is okay at them moment for me. Use ewar to try to evade scouts that use 1 or 2 hp mods.
Use focussed scanners to scan them on std frames (usually 45 000 ISK per std assault suit).
Use a shotgun on assault suits with a small amount of ewar.
Use a commando with a shotgun in case you manage to run into them face first.
Get an adv knife sidearm while walking around corners. (doesn't always work just like the above methods, nothing is perfect)
Use precision enhancers
Walk behind allies and cover there asses, if scouts kill the ally behind you first, gives you a higher chance of surviving.

yer, that could work, im not pushing for anything in particular. i was just trying to get some other opinions.
maybe an assault version could be the longer range lower dmg. and the breach could be the instagibby one. while the regular stays mostly the same with slight reduction to clip size and damage modifier.
just thinkin out loud.
