Has anyone else noticed that whenever a game is poised to take even more players away from Dust, something goes wrong?
Destiny has barely any content with a $100 price tag including the DLC unless you pre-order, which brings it down to $90.
Tom Clancy's The Division got pushed back to mid-late 2015.
Star Wars Battlefront is publicly confirmed to be a pale facsimile of the original games.
Is Dust just unusually lucky as far as competing titles? This is seriously getting uncanny.

Contrary to Dust alle of these games don't have any longevity at all. Why do you think people keep playing Dust? Because there's always something to do. A new skill to get. More money to be made ect. Also people usually play more than only one game.

It's a free game on the ps3.
New game on the ps4 basically targets a different group of people with a price range.
a handful will go to it until they get bored and wanna come back to all the passive SP, but I think that's about it personally.

Oh please, take off the tinfoil.
DUST is a free, niche game. People will always pop in to check things out, and DUST has the advantage of convincing people to stay, through time required and money potentially invested.
No other game is trying to "compete" with DUST, and these titles that supposedly flop still draw in VASTLY more profit than this game ever will.

Great games? Took EVE 10 years to get there, DUST is still on its way.
DUST is not a well made game. Their ambition got ahead of them and they forgot that they're using 10 year old hardware with half a gig of RAM at their disposal. Good game developers plan ahead with this limitation in mind, DUST feels like a game that was thrown together with random stuff that sounded cool in the bar. Now Rattati has to piece everything together, while chanting "IT WAS LIKE THAT WHEN I GOT HERE" in the fetal position every night.

Star wars battlefront is working to a timeline to be released at the same time as the next movie. the content that is missing such as space battles, more planets/maps and more playable hero characters can't be included on release due to their tight schedule. it will be added later on as free or near free DLC.
you could almost say they will be adding to the game over a long period of time the same way dust has operated since created. I am not saying this is a dust killer game but you have to take there deployment method into account

For me it's kind of funny to think I got into this game in the first place because I saw that Gallente Fighter demonstrated on-stage back in 2009. I know I may never get to use a jet like I hoped, but I guess this game got me hooked anyway.

I'm actually pumped for Star Citizens FPS module because it's going the heavy tactical route kind of like Rainbow Six, but with no respawn mechanic other than being dragged back and revived by allies.

No, its just that triple A game makers are shitlords who dont know what fun is anymore. They just try to make their game with mass market appeal or making some bone headed CO level decision that cripples the game somehow, so it ends up appealing to no one.
To be fair Dust made mistakes like this, like putting the game on PS3 because Sony gave them a good deal on updating processes and other stuff.

Is Dust just unusually lucky as far as competing titles? This is seriously getting uncanny. Ubisoft hasn't put out a good Rainbow Six game since the very first one on N64. I knew it would be terrible as soon as it was announced. I'm actually pumped for Star Citizens FPS module because it's going the heavy tactical route kind of like Rainbow Six, but with no respawn mechanic other than being dragged back and revived by allies. Stressful realism is the WIN!!
Its going to be a sort of middle ground between rainbow six tactical "realism" and more floppy games like destiny or COD. Thats what the chairman said anyway, not sure what that will actually mean in implementation, but whatever ;d |

Plain and simple, it is greed on the AAA titles and producers. They have developed A LOT more content than the new game being released day one. They do that so they can squeeze more $$ out of you. No more lengthy storylines in FPS. They want to drag you along for at least a year to even two years so they can reduce production and maintain current income which leads to increased profits.
If they have their way, you will soon pay for connecting to their servers on top of paying to play through your consoles service. This will apply to PC also. EA is the one leading the charge on that one.. (Read Battlefront).
Not even a month ago, a lawsuit was started to stop people from developing their own server software for abandonware games, citing security and profitability reasons in the future. They even included LAN connectivity in their scenarios.
Unfortunately all the sheople will keep buying the games and encouraging it.

Is Dust just unusually lucky as far as competing titles? This is seriously getting uncanny.
This right here^
If anything, CCP and DUST have proven the model of halfbaked release +endless flip-flop fixing, patches and core features ultra-delayed can still retain a playerbase and be profitable. Don't think EA and every other developer doesn't watch their industry for ways to trim costs (less development) as means to increase profits (dlc/"perks" sales)? You're kidding only yourself. Games are Srs Bsns.

At this point, no game will kill DUST other than "Hey, Legion is DUST on the PC/PS4; play over there."
What will kill it is the slow dropout that people will have. PS3's will die, veterans will stop playing, and there will be virtually no new blood in to take care of the loss. To me, there are four ways for DUST to die: Legion/DUST 2, Sony stops supporting PS3, CCP says "good night, sweet Prince.", and the slow bleed.
Other than those, I don't see any one thing being the killer.

Games have development issues and get over hyped all the time. These stand out to you because they are hyped within the Dust community as being the thing that will kill Dust.
This is exactly why it is best to just ignore that kind of hype until the game is either very close to released or is released. |

Stuff happens and has been happening for sometime now, so no Dust isn't 'lucky'. It's as lucky as any other game in that regard . Probably even less so if it is lucky because all those games are coming this year plus more and all of which will take some players from the already < 3000 it is now. |

Ironically, most of the time the hype machine is directly funded by the same people who generally ruin the game by forcing bad timelines or bad development: the publishers. |

Where is this 3,000 number coming from that everyone keeps saying? I can't find anything other than before rogue wedding there was 300k individual accounts logging in and playing at least once a month. I know it has dropped drastically since then, but I think more than just 3k play. Maybe no more than 3k at any given time..I can believe that
Why should I show you anything about something I wasn't even talking about ? I didn't say anything about CCP caring or not caring about how many players they have. Oh thats super cool for Eve, but this forum is about Dust and so is this thread.
http://eve-offline.net/?server=dust . Also it was 'unique monthly accounts ' that logged in once which has a chance to be inflated since people make multiple PSN accounts. The number people talking about are people playing at the same time which is low and is either stagnates or decrease very slowly. A way to know actually how many play the game is telling how many of those people actually logged in and played a match or a few, or spend sometime logged in. |

We'll see, imo if he was really going for mass market appeal he #1 wouldnt be making a sci fi flight sim, and #2, would be making the FPS portion exactly like COD.
This guy doesnt give two ***** about that stuff, he's making the game he wants to play, and he doesnt have a bunch of assinine corporate suits telling him how to do things. If you're not even remotely hopeful or excited about that then why are you even playing video games at all? |
