This dev blog explains that player trading will be implemented in it's simplest form: trust based trading.

Ratatti explains that you will send and item to someone and hopefully they will send you the negotiated trade item.
WTF? CCP, why can't you do anything right? There is absolutely no accountability to that system whatsoever. People will scam each other until the system can no longer be used legitimately.
Why not a brokered system, CCP? Was the programming too difficult? Sup wit dat? |

It's the simplest thing that can be implemented: in other words, Ratman wanted to add trading ASAP, and that was the fastest way to do it. Very likely we'll see polished versions of trading later on.
But it's true, the empyreans have no word for "trust"

Use a vouched third party and pay them for their time. The really public ones will be placing their reputation on the line facilitating trades.
Isk goes to third party, item goes to third party, item goes from third party to buyer, isk goes from third party to seller. If someone gets scammed by the third party 'report' it on the trade forum, people will call them out as a scammer should they show up again.

How I wished trading worked:
Player X has offered you Scrub Riffle for 10 iskies. Do you accept?
If you accept offer, you have 24 hours to send and receive the money/item. There would be a menu where all your offers and trades would be located. From there you just click on offer that you have accepted and select to send item/money.
If you reject you can do two things: Decline offer or compromise on new deal. For example:
Player Y has rejected your offer but has open a new deal of-
Scrub Riffle for 1 iskies. Do you accept new offer?
If either party doesn't completes their offer they would lose trading ranking. Trade ranking would be a way to determine reliable customers and... F+ck this I'm getting carried away.

You better be gracefull that we at least get this. FW players actually have a reason to exist (they buy gear with LP and sell it for ISK), stuff you want to trade or have no usage for can actually find people who need it. I for example have hundreds of basic and advanced combat loadouts from salvage, the STD loadouts cost 10k ISK on the market but because im a nice guy i will only charge 5k ISK. Most fits are actually usable and the quality of the suit can help out newbies/broke players quite alot. If i sell for example 100 basic amarr combat loadouts for 5k ISK a pop it would only cost 500k ISK for people who dont really have the ISK.
Another niche is weapon/suits you get from strongboxes. Since allmost everything from a strongbox is a AUR variant it can be used sooner then a ISK equivalent. A common thing is the Allotek "pyrus" assault rifle, i have over 150 of those things and i plan on selling them in bulks of 50 or so.
Then there is the warbarge which can produce experimental/officer grade weapons and suits. Those will be pricy and a decent income if you either cant use the stuff or want something else in exchange. Like a officer AR for a officer scrambler rifle etc.
Im confident that there will be ingame chats and forum adds where people can put their offers. However the first days will be crazy and 200 posts which are about scaming will be spammed on the forum.
I make the scrubs scream and the vets cry.

Unfortunately 3rd party brokers are going to get screwed by the trade fee.
I really think that trade fees should have been reserved for an actual 2 way transaction not just "gifting" as we are going to have. |

Easy solution -_-
Step 1 make a chat invite fellow corp mates friendly who u play with and can trust n build a trust chat.
Step 2 if u dont feel like start chat follow rest of step one trust only people u know.
Step 3 recieve payment for 1 item at a time its one thing to lose isk but that can be remade easily gear nope. If their unwilling then dont even bother. Officer gear should never go for more than a mil at most suits aside. Not to mention tax is percentage based so doesnt matter if your trading a 100 or 1 tax is the same.
Step 4 id advise wait a week after release to see if glitches occur.
Step 5 when trading with random person always add them to watch list or block list if you for some reason get jipped in some way which shouldnt happen if previous steps followed |

This is actually Agile development 101. Small increments which gives value to the customer (us) which can be iterated upon based on feedback.
A trading (broker) system you propose would be useless without the technical ability to send an item to another player (harder than you think in New Eden).
Would you rather wait a long time to have everything, only to then discover the core mechanic was flawed? Or better yet, a re-prioritisation of other features during development which means you will never get it?
In case you are wondering, that is how they worked before CCP Rattati came aboard. Worked out really good, didn't it

Trust based trading is one of the most interesting ways to build a player market honestly. People ARE accountable. Every time someone does something scummy their reputation takes a hit. Also allows for third party brokers to be a thing.
Under a system of guarantees you can't have that kind of drama. Not as fun.
Of course, I've always been a fan of having contracts like EVE does, but with actual small print and difficult-to-understand wording. That makes the scamming even more fun.
Usually banned for being too awesome.

Simple Player Trading is not the way I wanted to see trading implemented either. I would have preferred something similar to the contract system in Eve Online: Create contract X good for Y ISK > Send to a contact > Contact gets a notification > Reviews contract > If the terms are agreeable they accept > ISK is automatically deducted from contact's wallet and they get the item
When you create the contract there is also a small contract fee. I believe it is 10,000 ISK. This is mostly to prevent spamming contracts for griefing purposes.
That's a great deal more complicated, and more difficult to code, than the Simple Player Trading feature. The contract feature would be much better, but it would take the CCP Shanghai Dust dev team months of focused development to roll out.
We get this Simple Player Trading now and that opens up the ability to give some trusted folks the officer / experimental gear we don't use. CCP can try to iterate on the existing feature later.

I think an auction system would prove most useful. Instead of having to hunt down buyers for my goods, I want to be able to post an auction item with a starting bid and a time limit, walk away and forget about it. In this way, market values would balance themselves, as buyers could peruse the auction for an item, sort by bid amount and try to get the cheapest deal, while demand would gradually drive up the price to market value.
If Dust had an API, I would build an integrated auction system myself. Currently, though, as trades are simply trust based, there's no way I would build a decoupled system to organize trading behavior. Anytime a business process that should be automated has not been automated and requires an undue amount of manual work, I will forgo that process. Hence, I won't be trading. |
