Have you thought about the possibility that I'm actually using aim assist because otherwise I would feel at disadvantage towards people who use it? Yes, my gun game sucks, but why should I be killed by a guy whose gun game is even worse but just got lucky?
/offtop As for that thread that you linked - cloak has very little use because it puts you at disadvantage when switching equipment, takes up one eq slot, and a good portion of your cpu and pg, while not even giving invisibility. that's my opinion , but that's a different topic

Those who do well with aim assist will continue to do well without it.
Aim assist helps newbies more than it does veterans. My K/D dropped sharply when aim assist was introduced, because new players could actually hit me now, and I had to adjust to that.

AA is still active with it "off" in the settings... Don't be silly.
Next thing you will tell me the "Texture Detail" feature in the options actually does something for game performance...
If you have a DS3/4 in your hands... Aim assist is on. But hey? whatever makes you feel good? |

I'm pretty sure we have some of the weakest AA in the industry. Not to mention our control sensitivity is complete garbage. Compare the controls to a game like Destiny (with AA off) and it's night/day to what we have. In Destiny you have fine precision aiming without (constantly overshooting your intended target) but can still rotate quickly. I'm pretty sure there is a non-linear relationship between right stick movement and the aiming reticule moment speed.
Not to mention as others have said, that AA is new player friendly. This chest-beating macho bullsh*t is pathetic. It's supposed to be a "thinking-man's shooter," not a "master awkward controls to prove how elite I am" shooter.

Keep in mind that aa pulls you aim/bullets to the center of mass. This means that a skilled shooter without aa will come out on top due to getting headshots. If your truly skilled at this game then aa makes no difference. |

i agree but it won't happen.. ppl who are against it are the minority.. it's the plague of PC gamers switching to console- "i can't aim without aim assist and i speak for everyone"- they won we lost.. you will waste a lot of energy trying to get rid of aim assist and clashing with it's proponents. we tried 1.5 years ago and lost the argument as is apparent. they won't remove aim assist it is what they perceive that sells a game these days. we are enjoying PS2 for now it's aim assist is very weak if even there, but in good time they will buff it there also. no company has the balls anymore to say no to aim assist and rolling back on it is just out of the question, TLDR your wasting your time. |

yea also AA tracks the wrong target often in CQC.. i want to hit the guy with low health not waste ammo on the guy next to him with full shields.. we actually shouted down it's removal in star wars battlefront 1 forums.. but that was in 2004 before the culture of AA had permeated the industry. |

When Destiny has a 1.2 second TTK in PVP with one of the best primary guns in the game... Which is about where DUST is..with pro weapons and suit competition..
Somewhere CCP changed the heart of DUST's gameplay to trade for an attempt to emulate other shooters this IP was never designed to compete against.
Regardless it lies at the very concept to what this IP is that makes Aim assist so off putting. When you die, you loose personal assets every time.
Thinking that a game mechanic put in place to artificially augment a players aim to have the ability kill you and to remove your personal assets, be it ISK or even AURUM based items... Just makes the process largely annoying? Compared to before where it actually made the process exhilarating,
having two players square toe to toe betting their personal assets on their personal skill, and when loosing having a vengeance moment like no other... Remember the players name... Building a repore..
None of this happens in DUST anymore... You kill players in seconds, it's meh... you move on and it means nothing seconds later...
I still hear players talk about epic fights they had in public matches against each other before aim assist was implemented... It was gameplay that created truly memorably experiences..
Now Aim assist is just a game mechanic that you learn to use... And once you do it makes any challenge or skill based gameplay in momentary encounters moot...
Now this is what DUST 514 is... You learn to use the mechanic instead of learning how to aim and play the game.
CoD in space with boring meaningless combat. They took the heart out of DUST and tried to placate us with Shinny. |

If you're not bad, then when you use AA like everyone else, you're on the same playing field, except you're better.
If you turn off AA, then you're consciously playing at a disadvantage, and have no right to complain.

You say this but tbh as far I remember, never used to worry that much about hit detection. Before they enabled AA fairly sure I used to kill stuff.
As cat merc says, when they enabled hit detection all the bads who couldn't shoot for **** were suddenly killing things. |
