People have always left battles to avoid a stomp *ahem* apparently. The current problems are that squads are still having the odd issue deploying and the game isn't replacing people leaving fast enough. Then when it does add more people they see that the match has already started and or that it is an unbalanced match and so they then quit out too.
As the match progresses more and more people on the losing team give up and quit with what they have, or check the scores and see that they only have 5,10, whatever people on their team, because a six man squad just left, and so they then leave too. Match then finishes 16-5 or something and the losers all feel cheated. This is a problem of both peoples' desire not to lose and of the small number of players available to throw into the battle at any one time.
I've had very few matches that haven't started 16-16, maybe I've just been lucky, but plenty that ended very unbalanced because of the domino effect on the teams once people start leaving.
I'd also say that I mainly play solo in the lower tier of battles and by the sound of it there is much less of a problem with this than in the higher tier. Yes I get dumped into the odd losing battle and yes sometimes I just quit out, and then get put back in, and then quit out again, and then get put back in and then etc etc but no more than I used to be with the old system.
I think that the problem with the higher tier is POSSIBLY the propensity for more larger squads, meaning that a DC, broken deployment etc affects a larger number of people concurrently and the fact that everybody knows everybody else too well and don't want to have to have a tough fight against each other either because of stats or isk or because squads are constantly facing off against each other over the course of the night and are getting fed up of it. Unfortunately there isn't a lot CCP can do about influencing the way individuals approach the game.
More rewards/ more punishments etc may help but will bring with them their own problems and have the potential to make more players just give up on it all together. As people noted during the FW event it was very rare for the large q-synched squads to ever actually face up against each other over the course of an evening and thats a problem too.
Ummmmmmm............ no idea what my conclusion is here so I'm just going to stop. |
