I'm flattered that my corp has so much influence apparently.
As to retention numbers, as I understand it the industry average for free to play games is that 66% of players quit on the first day. Those that stick it out for a few days more are increasingly likely over time to become regular, paying customers.
As someone pointed out earlier, players that come to D-UNI and the Learning Coalition are usually already actively looking for help. This means they're in the minority of players that have tried Dust 514 and made it past day one. This is due to Dusts rather poor NPE. However that NPE has improved considerably in the past year and is going to see even greater improvement in the near future. I'm confident that the games own inate retention rate will improve even more as a result.
As to D-UNI's rentention rates my own methods of calculating it are rather crude but according to CCP I'm not far off the mark. As it stands currently the monthly average player rentention of players that join D-UNI is 80%. In other words, 8 out of 10 D-UNI recruits are still playing the game a month after joining us.
Just over 60% of those player leave us within that first month to go to other player run corps. I make a note of such players and using the contacts system I measure a random pool of them every few months for in game activity (This is a very involved process as you can imagine, so I tend to only do it every few months). Between 70 to 80% of players leaving D-UNI to join other corps are still actively playing the game after 3 months. The rest that don't leave D-UNI stay around for many months before doing so because they like the corp environment or like to help others. We have just under 100 players that have been members for over a year and play every week.
As to lifetime of the corp stats, I asked CCP if they could give me a total of players that have joined D-UNI but they don't have the tools to find that out but from my guesstimations I'd say that roughly 6500 to 8000 players have passed through D-UNI at some point during the period from the open beta to now. On average each new recruit has received 30 welcome emails from me via my Eve account, so I've personally sent out nearly a quarter of a million emails with information ranging from fitting guides to a history of New Eden. According to CCP, I'm personally responsible for the majority of mail sent to Dust Mercs during the lifetime of the game.
I would like to do more however and the question has been asked more than once of me if I'd be willing to allow all new players joining the game to start in D-UNI. My answer is usually yes providing that the corp tools are put in place to manage those kind of numbers.
Said corp tools are not available yet so I've had to decline but one day they will be hopefully.....
