In public matches:
Today I tried to make my team spawn in my militia dropship with a MCRU. I also used militia hardeners and dropship speed mods.
On my 3rd attempt I realized I could simply pass by the objective at max speed, zooming from 1 side of the map to the other. This allows players to spawn in and drop near an objective, on the ground or on buildings, assuming they time there drops correctly. Swarm launchers were able to kill me if I was too close to the ground while I zoomed past. I was able to correct that mistake easily. It seemed that only forge guns stood a chance eventually as I got more practice with the vehicle.
I concluded that MCRU dropship playstyles are viable. However the only problem is that barely anyone on my team decided to spawn in my dropship. Despite a lack of uplinks near the objective half the time and my team was struggling to hold the objective for long periods. I wonder if many noticed me.
The hardener did allow me to even stay at objectives for a few seconds to allow infantry more control over there landing point. If that is needed. But my team never took advantage of it.
The match ended in defeat for my team if I recall correctly.
To help make dropship roles earn more WP and be more viable:
CCP rattati, I suggest creating a small regularly appearing message in the bottom of all allied players TV screens. The message could say:
Recommended friendly MCRU spawn on dropship/HAV
I would suggest the colour of the text in the message be a light blue, because I find blue text to be easier to read.
This message could activate as soon as any allied vehicles are using a MCRU. The message could appear for 12 seconds, then disappear. Then appear 1 minute later on regular intervals as long as a vehicle has a MCRU equipped.
This would help remind a team to take advantage of another players dropship efforts.
EDIT: oops, posted in wrong section of forums. |

maybe they can even make this feature, where you can talk to other players, and say hey I got a mcru! that'd be sweet |

team chat can do that.
but players don't always look at team chat because it takes too long to load up.
That's why I thought a small message might work better.

when did they add the speed mods? or do you still own some from a long time ago?
the rate of spawn for me used to depend on how much droplink spam there was.. still that didnt assure that i would get MCRU spawns.. most players are just weary of random dropships or feel they're redundant to the other transport options (running).. my MCRU grimness could turn a match around sometimes tho.. also you have to entice players to spawn in, i used to do that by just landing on a rooftop right by the red objective.. but i had enough SP to tank a first volley or 2 of AV and enough experience to bug out real quick. keep trying, 1 out of 5 matches the MCRU would be running over time, a single door gunner plus spawns i got 1rst place a few times with 0/0 kills. |

- Passengers can hardly see while in the DS
- They have no way of knowing, without you relating it to them, where exactly they are on the map
- MCRU spawns take nearly twice as long as an uplink
- Most ships with an MCRU are standard, so you know that the ship will either be
A) Flying top speed to avoid AV at all times, thus ruining your ability to predict your spawn point
B) Hovering, in which case, you're just asking to die with the ship as you spawn in
- Dropping out of a dropship from height without knowing exactly what awaits you is just asking to jump into the snake pit
In addition to this, running an MCRU also encourages people to AFK in your ship, directly damaging your teams chances to win. Some players don't even intend to, but because of the above listed issues, many players will simply wait till they feel it's all clear. Which, of course, they can rarely accurately asses for themselves. Furthermore, with map sizes reducing, there is even less demand to deal with the above issues. When you can spawn on a faster, safer uplink that is probably half a foot from the objective, which do you feel you'd prefer?
And lastly (well, probably not, but for now) if you run missiles as your side guns, your gunners can STILL kill themselves while shooting. Also, EVERY side gun STILL has the TWO YEAR OLD glitch that forces the gun to revert to its central position if it looks to close towards the nose of the ship.
TL;DR: CCP has offered absolutely no incentive nor reasonable mechanics to support a mobile transport dropship with MCRU. It may periodically "work" in pubs, but will fall to pieces in the face of even the slightest of organized AV squads. Even if you don't die, you'll be forced into awkward locations that turn what could be a 5 second spawn on an uplink into a 15-60 second nightmare as you pray it's clear to drop.
MCRU's are currently best used on HAVs, and will likely stay that way for some time.

Interesting, I forgot that they removed the feature for infantry to 'look around' when they are within a passenger seat of a dropship. that does make it hard to assess when to drop.

You can still "look around" but it's so limited that you can't see much of anything. It also depends on if the pilot has the side doors opened or not, which usually, they aren't. And when they're open, that makes you even more vulnerable, though this is slightly mitigated if you're constantly flying around in circles at full speed

If you fly too high, you don't appear on the respawn charts. Also, you don't mark over where you actually are.
If you are directly over the objective, but in the air, it looks like you are in a redline, or off the map, so people don't even see your link.

If only we could have cloaked dropships to make transport actually viable without being blown out of the sky.
I like the idea of a notification that tells people about the MCRU, such as "Mobile CRU airborne" or something

Unfortunately there is still that bug where people don't see the MCRU and they have to be terminated or cancel spawn to see it.

you don't even need a mic to follow orders. It helps having all communicate, but just listening is a big step. |

that one doesn't sound to bad..directly telling you to use it , no. But just saying one has been deployed, wouldn't be to bad. |

Or.... there's this icon around your ship when they are in the select spawn screen. Though I do commend the blind for not allowing their disability from keeping them from playing.

hehe
for real though , who the hell would want to blindly jump into an mcru?
However, communication with pilot to the ground would make it much more appealing. As you know what the pilots plan is, where he is going to be, when he is there and the drop is ready. He can't just expect people to know all that or willingly hop on that not knowing wtf they getting into. Communication is key to a very successful mission.
I was being fully sarcastic with my comment, it seemed a coule did not realize that.. as that is a feature that has been here, well for a long time..though originally ccp silly butts wanted us to pay for it haha. ( or was that for only outside of battle?, either way twas silly) |
