- Passengers can hardly see while in the DS
- They have no way of knowing, without you relating it to them, where exactly they are on the map
- MCRU spawns take nearly twice as long as an uplink
- Most ships with an MCRU are standard, so you know that the ship will either be
A) Flying top speed to avoid AV at all times, thus ruining your ability to predict your spawn point
B) Hovering, in which case, you're just asking to die with the ship as you spawn in
- Dropping out of a dropship from height without knowing exactly what awaits you is just asking to jump into the snake pit
In addition to this, running an MCRU also encourages people to AFK in your ship, directly damaging your teams chances to win. Some players don't even intend to, but because of the above listed issues, many players will simply wait till they feel it's all clear. Which, of course, they can rarely accurately asses for themselves. Furthermore, with map sizes reducing, there is even less demand to deal with the above issues. When you can spawn on a faster, safer uplink that is probably half a foot from the objective, which do you feel you'd prefer?
And lastly (well, probably not, but for now) if you run missiles as your side guns, your gunners can STILL kill themselves while shooting. Also, EVERY side gun STILL has the TWO YEAR OLD glitch that forces the gun to revert to its central position if it looks to close towards the nose of the ship.
TL;DR: CCP has offered absolutely no incentive nor reasonable mechanics to support a mobile transport dropship with MCRU. It may periodically "work" in pubs, but will fall to pieces in the face of even the slightest of organized AV squads. Even if you don't die, you'll be forced into awkward locations that turn what could be a 5 second spawn on an uplink into a 15-60 second nightmare as you pray it's clear to drop.
MCRU's are currently best used on HAVs, and will likely stay that way for some time.

You can still "look around" but it's so limited that you can't see much of anything. It also depends on if the pilot has the side doors opened or not, which usually, they aren't. And when they're open, that makes you even more vulnerable, though this is slightly mitigated if you're constantly flying around in circles at full speed
