What would you consider the worst thing to happen to dust why?
For me, it's cloaking devices. Back in beta, battles were alot more honest. NO ONE could charge straight at an enemy squad or clear out a whole whole single handedly, yet today because cloaking devices (and other mechanics related to scouts) I see it often.
Situation awareness used to be a thing, until CCP literally took it out of the game. There's no skill in being invisible. Cloaking devices never added anything of value to the game. It broke game balance so badly that it took months of buffs to other suit classes just to compete. If CCP would ever remove anything from Dust 514, I would want the cloaks to go away like black ops tanks did, and never come back. |

Same as the cloak users complaining that the cloaks were nerfed too hard, you are swinging way too far in the opposite direction. Cloaking devices were meant to give Scout suits the ability to safely cross open terrain with no cover which they used to have issues with. People using them as GOTCHA bullshit was part of why the CPM was so insistent on not going with CCP's original concept, which would have had NO movement shimmer whatsoever.
thats fine. but gal scout? thats not fine. youre either invisble to the eye, or invisible to scans... not both. gal scouts goes hunting more than scouting.
nothing like looking all around you in a open field, and checking your radar... and still getting shotgun in the back |

If those resources had instead been spent improving the game we probably would have had a much better release, which would have meant better reviews, more players sticking around. All of this would have lead to a larger developer team and would have snowballed into a radically different future for the game.
I know some people remember those events fondly, but we paid an insanely high price for them.
whats crazy is that i didnt get into either of those events. so for me, yea they were a huge waste |

You can see the people.... if you're aware of your surroundings. Using the radar does not qualify as "situational awareness".
i use both. if im "lucky" ill catch a scout sneaking up on me if im in the open on a hill. he usually would instantly stand still, at which point i can barely see him.
it was harder when they had passive scan while cloaked that had the little arrow that told them which direction you were facing. cmon man, how many crutches did scouts need lol?
imagine if they had the passives while cloaked and directional arrows allow with their superman jumps? what part of any of that sounds remotely balanced with anything else in the game? there no justifying anything the scouts had up til now.
the least they could do is nerf your movemt and sprint speed while cloak is activated. i mean the cloak is for moving unseen right? why do they also need to sprint, and jump over buildings while cloaked?
blah blah blah... im ranting. sorry |

I have lots of other ideas too as to why this hasnt become more successful, probably the lack of in-game information about weapon range, damage types and their modifiers against shield and armor, grounding the skill progression too much in EVE instead of grounding it based off of solid FPS progression and adding some EVE flavor.
Lack of matchmaker at launch, lack of tier locked modes at launch and conversely lack of risk vs reward, because risk is the only thing changing in the game right now depending on the suit you use, but reward is almost always the same.
Also pretty much all the changes Rattatai made not being in the game to begin with hurt the game.
I'm not sure if CCP looked to hire anyone who had FPS experience to lead the development of dust from the start, but they should have if they didnt.
at this point, with as much SP floating around out there as we have now. the lack of any PVE mode will turn newcomers away. they cant compete, and if they cant compete what else is there for them to do? theyll simply quit since theyre unable do anything else.
PC is off limits. FW is still broken. and all pubs at this point are just waiting rooms for the pc matches. theres nowhere for noobs to go and learn the game and the academy is a laughable excuse for a training mode
no pve = fail for any mmo anything, especially one tied to eve

Situation awareness used to be a thing, until CCP literally took it out of the game. There's no skill in being invisible. Cloaking devices never added anything of value to the game. It broke game balance so badly that it took months of buffs to other suit classes just to compete. If CCP would ever remove anything from Dust 514, I would want the cloaks to go away like black ops tanks did, and never come back. I've never really had any problems with dust. The cloaks were cool and added some variety; BUT what they did wrong. Was they didn't balance the game when the cloaks were introduced. The exact same issue with tanks back in beta, 90% of the player base was brand spanking new so all we had were MLT and STD AV to take on PRO tanks. So really the forum whingers won and got tanks hella nerfed at the same time as us beta guys started catching up to get PRO AV, whilst the tankers only had STD variants, so there you have your imbalance. The same issue is in cloaks vs scans. Only ONE suit could scan the cloaked+damped scouts at the time. That scout had a HORRIBLE buggy hitbox that has now been graduated to the min assault suit. But the scans were nerfed into the ground when the cloak was introduced. Therefore every suit bar ONE always got snuck up on while trying to protect or attack a point regardless of how many scanners you used to try and create 'situational awareness'. Which is where everyone's frustration over cloaked scouts has stemmed from. NOW cloaks are nerfed into the ground and guess what, scans are OP again because a cloak is too slow to activate to utilise in an attacking momentum and doesn't provide any benefit to any suit BUT ONE. SO TL:DR The worst thing for me in dust was CCP never finding the balanced medium for their changes. Making one thing way too OP for 3-4months while we bare with the burden hoping the next update will nerf it
it still doesnt make sense that there one suit that can move around completely uncontested. and its only counter is one other suit using a mostly useless piece of equipment.
CCP add suedo scan fall off but nerfs scan range into the ground so that the net gain is less than what had started with.
"oh we have to nerf scan range so nova knifers can still nife people in the back." they gave concession to the most niche and non viable thing related to combat. i rank it up there with hull tanking in eve online in terms of usefulness. yet the whole scan mechanic suffers for it.
and balance? god. theres no weapon/ suit balance between races. which suit is best with Scr? which suit is best with CR? how about AR? any suit works. how about RR? any suit works. hell the gal assault suit uses the RR better than the cal assault, because it can deal more damage, tank more damage, get remote reps, rep through damage, and deal damage at the same range as the cal assault. so thanks CCP, the cal assault is out classed by other racial suits using the cal assaults own weapon. and we've been over it for month with Rattati but he does nothing.
PS. a kick reduction bonus to the RR isnt as good as an optimal range bonus |
