I like to play alone sometime, no mic, if you decide to snipe nobody will ask you anything, no rules for you. Do you play the game purposely on your own?
Because i find it very hard to not receive at least a squad invite when i log in, even without asking for it.
If so, why then you all complain that the game is unplayble for solo, if you don't want to squad up by your decision, in a game that is clearly team oriented?

I've been playing alone recently because I've been playing with dropsuits that don't really involve much teamwork. Shotgun scout, sniper scout, just messing around and generally enjoying trying out new things. When I get into a squad I feel obliged to do well, essentially I feel guilty if I'm not pulling my weight and we're losing games because of it. Lone wolfing lets me get away from that responsibility, I suppose.

shaman oga wrote:why then you all complain that the game is unplayble for solo, if you don't want to squad up by your decision, in a game that is clearly team oriented? Few possibilities:
1. The person that plays alone is not in a corporation or doesn't really know anyone. 2. The person just wants to do a quick game without sitting a channel doing LFS. 3. The person might play solo but then not complain about being solo. 4. The person might only have time for one or two games so getting into a squad is pointless. 5. The person may like the idea of being solo. "Top performer that round and I didn't even have a squad." 6. The person may not have any corp mates online. 7. The person may not want to have to talk to deal with anyone.
The flaw in your statement is that you assume that not being in a squad is the person's choice and that they complain about the solo player. It ends up framing people into a specific position while there are many other possibilities.
I play alone usually. I bounce around a lot. I'll do a game of DUST, hop over to another game, type out e-mails, YouTube, etc. Having a squad generally means having to chain games as they are usually not open to the idea of "hold on guys, I want to catch up on my AGDQ." So, for me, I guess you can put in 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7.

There is a plenty of possibility to squad with other players, IF YOU WANT TO.

I choose to play a game in which I am surrounded by people not so that I can socialize with them, but so that I can murder them in a widespread and efficient manner.

1. Have run solo 90% of the time since closed beta.
2. I don't play games back to back, and im usually doing 'other stuff' at the same time, even when I do have the time to sit and play a few games in a row, I like to stop and roll a smoke every now and then.
3. Not fighting my own squad for kills - yes, not only do I mainly play solo 90% of my time has been spent in ambush. Running with another 5 70mil+ vets in ambush is a pain in the ass for assists. My kills dammit!!!
4. I also find i play totally differently. When in a squad I actually tend to die more. At least solo I know who has my back.
Have never complained game has been unplayable solo. I hardened the **** up a long time ago. Various aspects of this game have been ruined by those that haven't IMHO

If so, why then you all complain that the game is unplayble for solo, if you don't want to squad up by your decision, in a game that is clearly team oriented? I agree. There's so many great groups of players in this game it's hard not find good squads to run with.
I've been essentially solo for 2 years now, mostly as a training exercise. Running solo in Dust really helps a merc learn his chops in many different areas of the game. Furthermore, if you foolishly go looking for trouble and then try to do your best when you find it, it will gradually, painfully force you to up your game. But be careful, 'merc who has himself for a teacher has a fool for a student....' =p
With the new MM life as a lone wolf has gotten much rougher, but there are surprising inconsistencies. One day stomped negative kdr for 8 consecutive losses, next day top of the leader boards with wins. Haven't figured that out yet, tbh.
The welcome challenge that the MM is bringing us will prolly cause lone wolves to actually squad up more and *gasp* turn on their mikes every now and then ;)

I lone wolf a lot for many reasons:
I like to play whichever role I feel like or I feel the team needs - the only thing I don't/won't and can't do is drive tanks. I like to play at my own schedule eg. play a match, take a coffee, play a match, have a smoke, play a match, surf the web - playing more than 3 games in a row is rare for me. I like to collect rare gear so I may spend matches going for specific missions eg. trying to get kill assists to win a key or destroying installations to the same end. I often play during the day when I'm supposed to be working and sometimes need to quit to take a work call. I left my corp to avoid the pressure to squad and play to their ends. I'm a middle aged guy with other responsibilities that drag me away from the game, so I'm very often logged in but afk which seems to upset some people in corps. I find it easier to get in the zone without the distractions of squad chatter. I have never complained about how difficult it is to solo - although I would like a solo gamemode.
As an aside the new matchmaking (when it works) has reduced my wp per match but improved my w/l ratio a lot - previously 70% of my matches I was against a squad of Prima Gallicus, DMG or some other EU corp and farming wp from dumb blues was how many matches turned out.
I do squad whe it suits me and I can dedicate a few hours but most games I'm solo. |

Most of the time I play in my own
It isn't hard when you get used to it. But first you have to know until which point one is able to reach and who is your enemy, depending on that, I chose suit and weapon.
There is never a time to say "it is unplayable" it is fully up to one, for example: sometimes I see some good players in the another side and my blueberries sux, so I do not go for the victory, I just go to get kills, to annoy the enemy.
But sometimes I decided to help the bluedots to win the game, just if I see that they push the enemy, if they don't, it is just a waist of my time trying to help them, because sometimes they push, but at the first loss of the point or position they quit, so I have to change once again tactics and think what I'm going to do.
Playing solo was my own decision, when I get online usually like 3 or 5 ppl ask me if I want to play in sqd but I always want to play solo, just if I'm going to play FW or I want to stomp the enemy I jump in a squad.
It is up to everyone, I prefer to do the things in my own way, I have fun by playing solo, is it easy most of the time? No. does it worth? If properly played you can afford proto 24/7. How is your kdr? I can keep it above 5 without issues.

First rule of solo play:
You are going to die. Constantly. Shelf your epeen at the door and run cheap and aggressive.
Risk averse behavior is neither fun nor effective because the instant you refuse to present a good fight (only sniping, using nothing but RE) people will HUNT YOU.
If they're fighting you they aren't actively trying to ruin tge game for you.
And I don't respond to invites unless I have confirmed they aren't terminal dipsh**s

You are in a PC corp and in an alliance, which also means you most likely have access to a few other chats such as Corp Pubs, PC chats, and Elite FW chats.
I would find it hilarious if you DIDN'T get invites when you logged in broseph...
As far as solo players go...
I play solo all the time, I also run squads quite often.
I run solo if I have to be in a chat, but still want to grind my player.
In this way my squad doesn't suffer from a semi-afk player that may or may not get kicked for idling.
Many others simply don't like your face, your momma and hates your favorite color.
Anti-social people that want to play an FPS but cannot get along with others well.
There are even those that have a limited time to play, from 30 minutes to 2 hours and want to spend ALL OF IT in match.
They don't want to back out for someone that joined the squad late, sit around while the squad leader argues with a family member, or makes a sandwich.
Many others... simply haven't made any friends yet.
They complain about squads beating their ass because that is what squads do... and it sucks sometimes.
People get frustrated, even if it is partly their own fault...

There is a plenty of possibility to squad with other players, IF YOU WANT TO. My lack of quoting the rest doesn't change too much. It is still pushing people as a "Do you purposefully play alone? Then why do you complain." I understand that you also play alone and it is nice to see that I was fairly close with some of the possibilities. But, yes, I probably should have just quoted the whole post as using an excerpt makes it seem like I am trying to attack you or your statement rather than merely disagreeing with the premise.
The best answer to the question of "Why do people choose to play alone and then complain that the game is unfavored to the solo player?" that I can think of: "Why should it be unfavored to the solo player? Sure it is a team game but why can't I use my WP at all if I am not in a Squad? It isn't even a discussion of 'teamwork yields better results' but a 'why am I crippled just because I don't have a Squad?' Should the game be balanced in such a way that 4 people playing well and playing together can completely route 16 random players?"
Some people might have legitimate complaints. To those that don't and are just griping, well, it is pretty much why the internet exists: to b**** about stuff.

I am what i'd call a lonewolf leech. I que up solo , and if I see an open squad thats mostly full I will join it for that match , but rarely do unless it's for FW. However I chase other people around throwing equipment at them and repairing them, ..and jumping in front of guns occasionally..because I suck. I pick nobody in particular, I just run everywhere and stick with a small group for a couple minutes and move on to the next area. I don't have to deal with waiting for a full squad to form, don't have to be on coms, and I have no schedule to follow... but I make pretty dar good isk and rack up WP, so it's all good for me. |

I have skill and don't use expensive gear all the time and even when I do I can pay it off when lost it. 4. I'll tag along with other players and stick to them as a team. 5. I am short on time and only play a few matches 6. I don't want to squad with anyone 7. I have friends and such but do better as a lone wolf or not in the mood 8. I've never complained about solo gameplay

To answer your original question about why we complained.
From my perspective, there was a period of time where I found no matchmaking and Mu to place me on the opposite sides of stomps many many times.
Prior to Mu, and since matchmaking (fingers crossed), I have found games to be close and enjoyable and such that I can play and contribute even as a solo player.
I complained because this game has too small a player base to alienate either people who mainly squad or players who mainly solo. Both are legitimate styles and for this game to be successful long term both need to be viable.

Yes I do run Solo a lot. Usually I make a one man squad and lock it to avoid squad invites. I run solo for two reasons: 1) Most people I used to play with have quit and 2) I use it to test my suits and myself and to see how good I can get.
I actually don't complain at all about how hard it is and it is not unplayable if you know what you are doing. I still help the team out the best I can by taking points, installations and challenging enemy sentinels. People who find solo play unplayable have no idea what they are doing most the time IMHO.

It sucks, really, it does. You're constantly feeling like you're against overwhelming odds and your gameplay suffers as a result. It's really really difficult to maintain some level of optimism when you're constantly getting your butt kicked and thinking that you're the only one working on the team.
It's especially infuriating when you're -not- playing Sniper or some other support role and are actually working the frontline.

And expected blueberry to do the rest 2) joined another that was basically like running solo just with people talking in your ear. 3)different squad, all they wanted to do was ride around in a tank, not hacking the objectives, just accumulating WP. B.S. I'd say 4)I love shooting people in the face with my sniper rifle from time to time 5) don't need a squad to be a team player.
Only drawback I'd say is the lack of a solo orbital strike. |

Hey dude i do actually play lonewolf as well or sometimes ill squad up my crop buddies. Mostly for lonewolf they fit actually in domination or skirmish. Since we already have the new matchmaking. If you play lonewolf follow these rules.
1. Do not trust blueberrys to help you.
2. Keep calm and just have fun.
3. Bring alot of links ( good resoure of wp)
4. Try to protect the objective as much you can.
Lastly show them you dont need a team to squad up

1. bad comms (not only complaining the whole time, but also static noise and family noise) 2. my role usually works better when not sticking to tight to the fight (Support Logi (links and scans) and AV) 3. I die a lot more in a squad, since I try to push harder 3. had a lot of squads, where people were constantly talking, but not about objectives or the match, but about random other crap. 4. backing out of games for dropped members, hate that! 5. just getting annoyed by people who are not my cup of tea... |

I used to get plenty of invites, still do actually.
I don't play with other people. I listen to music, and loathe waiting in lobby for people to chat and get their **** filled. Lone wolf is the only way to play.

Not gonna hear me complaining about running solo. It's fun having someone to talk to, but worrying about finding a full squad every time I play isn't something I'm going to do. Sometimes it's nice to just hop on and screw around, without worrying about winning. Sure, going up against a full squad from a well known corp while you yourself have nothing but idiot blueberries on your team is frustrating at best and occasionally downright rage inducing, it's not going to completely ruin the game.

Playing solo is somewhat less forgiving than team play. However, being in a squad for the sake of being in a squad isn't any fun either. I play solo for the most part because if I squad with the people I know in game, it leads to more red-lines than I find enjoyable. Also, I'm doing stuff around the house in between games, which isn't conducive to being in a squad. Conversely, if I want to run quick back to back to back games, it's better if I'm alone. Moreover, pulling out the occasional win against a good squad is more than worth the frustration of frequent deaths. |

I always get better scores when playing solo, which I do like 90% of the time. Sometimes, I'll make a squad for myself for extra WP and orbital strikes.

Team play doesn't mean you have to talk or coordinate with anyone. Basic teamwork via simply playing with a team and joining and coordinating with others is two totally different forms of teamplay and should be separated. Tryhard squads with codependent ideations deserve to be with their own kind. Casuals, new players and dedicated solo players deserve to play with like minded people.

Whenever I've done large stints of playing alone, it's usually been because I am an introvert and I don't like a lot of people or can't put up with their bullshit.
Whenever I join a squad and immediately hear someone talk about how high they're about to get, I immediately consider dropping squad. In fact I get pretty judgemental about them really quickly - if the only thing you have to talk about is how much your life revolves around your drug use, you are probably a worthless person I don't want to interact with.
Sometimes I choose not to squad simply because I'm either attempting to avoid corp drama, or I simply really don't like the people I might be squadding with.
When I join random squads, I often choose not to mic up, because I don't necessarily want to interact with strangers or have to correct them when they're gratuitously wrong about something.
Unsurprisingly, the reasons for 'not playing with others' are fairly consistant across a great deal of games (from wow to dust to eve to plenty of others) and it can usually be summed up by 'not wanting to deal with other people bullshit'.
