So, Dust 514 uses "cartoony" tank controls (real life vets, back me up here) like most games do to make tanks controllable for the average gamer. Why are dropship controls so obtuse? Most of us on the forums are not casual players, but casual and serious players alike have trouble with the dropship controls. Can we please just have regular video-game helicopter controls as an option? Left stick main rotor tilt, right stick directional rotor, a button to increase main rotor speed ("up") and a button to decrease rotor speed ("down"). It is not easy to get new players to stick around. New players, and old players as well, cannot grasp D514 dropship controls. In real life, you can build a personal aerial vehicle in your garage that uses two sticks and a throttle lever. Can we get that in our game? Do PCs need to hinge on the 10% of players who can effectively use D514 dropship controls? |

DS's are hyper easy to fly. Stop being a absolute scrub.
Also, that is how it works. Look at the controls in the menu.

Hold L1, tilt in a direction, it moves in that direction, don't tilt too far or you crash... Pretty much like controlling a helicopter in most other games.
In case you didn't know, up and down with the right analogue stick don't tilt the dropship, only moves the camera. Left stick tilts, right stick (left and right) rotates.
It's not until you try to do more than "helicopter stuff" that it gets mildly more difficult... Just be aware which direction you're moving and where the force from L1/L2 will be pushing/dragging you... |

Dman, you're are more of a scrub than I thought. I figured out how to fly in about 15 minutes of playing the game, with about 5 mins. of adjusting to how the fly every time they changed it, for a grand total of about 30 mins.
Also, I just realized that I probably farmed the **** out of you.

Everyone is different, it's just how we are. For some people (like me), dropship controls come completely naturally and they can fly them relatively easily. For others (like my brother or Rattati), dropship controls are really hard. You could make the controls really easy for those who's brains can't comprehend them, but that would ruin them for the few pilots who are extremely dedicated to the role. My favorite thing about the dropship is the maneuverability, being able to fly around doing corkscrews and flips and dives, knowing that a lot of people can't fly worth crap.
I'd rather they implement another vehicle that's extremely weak but easy to control. Maybe the Light Aircraft (since we can't have jets because of the map size)?

LAA's are Jets, and they would be inherently be faster than a DS, so map size would still be a issue.
X86 Dust would fix that.

X86 Dust would fix that. I mean rather than a jet, have a light aircraft that operates easily like OP wants. Faster than the dropship but not as fast as a jet. Just an idea, because I don't think we'll ever get jets in Dust. EDIT: Well, Dust as it is now for ps3.

The DS has weird controls (Aka inertia just stomping in your chest) But it takes time to fly it up to snuff... You'll always crash but eventually you start to realize the limits of the machine, and moving with it becomes so natural.
First I was stiff like a rock with that thing, but if you see me now... I'm almost as fluid as water. We all start as the rock... Time to take to reach water? Different for everybody.
Keep flying, and take out a second mortgage... In time you'll become proficient with it! :D

I've crashed exactly twice whenlearning how to fly.
Now I can fly a DS like I can fly a jet in other games.

I always died by bad fits or trying to land a viper like a plane... At least i can land a little bit more sexy... After 2 mil of vipers going boom....

.......... That's a lot of Vipers.
Also, there's no wheels on that thing, so landing like a conventional jet wouldn't end well, seeing as you would go into the ground, not roll on it.
Hell, not even LAA's as far as we've seen doesn't have wheels, which makes perfect sense tbh; rolling takes up much more land that VTOL requires, and while rolling does look much more sexy (and makes it to where having a actual ******* base for LAA"s to land for bases), it's just not practical. To be able to land in a large amount of places is much more efficient than only being able to land on a relatively flat strip of land.

I was only insulted once for stating my opinion. That's pretty good for these forums! BUT maybe some of you missed the point I was making - let me make it again:
"Most players have trouble with dropship controls. Seeing how HAV and LAV have been made simple, I don't see why we can't have simple dropship controls as well."
What percentage of players are good at today's dropship controls? 10%? Less than 20%, at least.
If the idea is to have vehicle controls less accessible to the masses, we should make ground vehicle controls more realistic as well - tanks, particularly. A modern tank "pilot" is waaaay to busy to operate the turret.
Simon, thanks for posting my brother. I appreciate it |

The physical controls have been changed 3 times, and the way they fly at least 4 times, and people still bitches about it. It's fine, you guys just are bads.

I feel you there, only a small group of people can handle it like water.
But also, how simple could it be? MLT auto pitches/rolls back to parallel to the ground already. You only need pitch, yaw and thrust to fly "adequately." and people always do some rollercoaster kind of take off where they fly high then nose down for some speed...
I really don't know how much simpler the DS could get... Too simple and people might be stiff in flight (me for example, if i change the controls my second nature kind of flight becomes another crash story)
Now i kinda land ADS like a plane, slow approach and touch the ground back first and it just drops forward.
It makes me cringe when I see people brutalizing the incubus... Just dropping it like a rock.
Even now, i still crash once in awhile when I'm testing the limits of the machine... But in the end now i can fly through some sockets at full throttle or from a vertical dive. With just a few turns of the analog stick and alternating between L1 and L2. I feel like i "am" the dropship.
Heck in PC i crash the most. I don't pay attention to the limits of my machine and usually crash when I'm "upper cutting" (nose up shooting up, falling down) enemy ADS when I'm about 150-50 high.
I got a little off topic in the middle (talking w/ Godin/ sharing my experience) but just what is there to simplify? I feel like it can't get any more simple IMHO.
Complicating tanks will cause an uproar... And just how will people approach it? And no prob PQ, i see DS i'll talk DS lol
