I'll give it another week before I make my final judgement. But so far, according to my preliminary observations, matchmaking seems to finally be working. It seems Scotty may have finally finished rehab for his alcohol problem.

I think the previous year of testing the last "big" MM change has been more than ample time to realize that MM tweaks can't magically fix core issues with the game's mechanics.

I applaud all the effort and work the devs have been putting in, especially from what they have to work with. Even if I don't agree with everything they do. I feel positve about MM working also, i've had some really great games since it's been implemented. After all they could just shut Dust down, but their building it............or trying

Which is why CCP Rattati and his team have been recently busy overhauling the matchmaking system. I think he said they're just tweaking it but so far it feels like an overhaul.

Launch MatchMaker 1.0 - not very good - prioritizes waiting time over similarity, teams are random
Uprising 1.4 - Feb 2014 MatchMaker 1.1 - intended to create battles with similar players, fails and is pulled completely, back to 1.0
Uprising 1.4.1 - Feb 2014 MatchMaker 1.0 - same as before
Hotfix - Sep 2014 Teambuilder 1.0 - works to balance teams, not to get similar players into battle
Hotfix - April 2015 - Matchmaker 2.0 - works to get similar players into battle, and works in combination with Teambuilder

As Mad said this explains a lot. As much as it pisses me off that this is the case, the honesty is appreciated.
Don't get me wrong, I won't be putting IP my HMG any time soon, I'm glad we know now and I can't wait to see what lies in the future for Dust.

Do we really need to have the estimated wait timer tho... seeing as it showed me 35 minutes yesterday. Then 20 minutes.
I'm still toying around with how it matches me as a solo player, as one match my team was owned hard, both in terms of MCC and clones, the next match it was the roles were reversed.

How you want balance something if its data are corrupted by horendous lag?
Honestly how do you want to balance teams or weapons, if there is terible lag involved? That is quite honestly nonsence.

In my experience, the individual connection of your opponents (and squad mates) has a big influence on your lag.
My worst lag comes from squadding with north west and south american players. This really screws things for me (being in the central EU). But I have also experienced lag with players from italy or ireland who had less than stellar internet connections. This is not solvable, except if you ban anybody with a bad connection from the servers... With the low playercount right now, it's very unlikely that that's going to happen.
Also, if you are in a squad, that has a Squad Leader from a different region, you will be put on a server in that region. So make sure, that the SL is always from the region as most of the players in squad. |

There is a fix for it, more servers for regions.
I agree with latinos (once i played on EU server with mexican helvete how is this possible). Lag compensation should me major thing for game like this.
How is possible to have smaller lag on other games, where i playing on US servers. I never was for thath, but right now im quite for region lock.
There cannnot be balance with this amount of lag in game. But CCP want their money and they will never do something like this for sure.

Other games like cod and bf have a much bigger playerbase, and also more servers. CCP can't make more splits with the low player count, since you would be getting matches with 3v3 players from that... It's just not possible atm.
The only thing they can do, is pulling the server choice in options, to get rid of intentional lag exploit by going to a foreign server.
And we can help, by trying to avoid squads, that have too many people from far away regions in them...

The trials and tribulations this game faces today is largely attributable to a foolish disrespect for core systems and mechanics. Delusional thinking on the part of the developer played a big role also, where 'good enough' for CCP was 'pretty frakkin far from alright' for the beta testers, press and players.

Yes the place looks like kittenpoop. But it's still winter with spring only a promise in the air. When the ground thaws we're gonna have to excavate, stabilize, shore & pour, and then do it again before everything is right. But for now we do what we can - patch the roof, repair the furnace, insulate the worst spots, close off the coldest rooms, put a new pressure switch on the water pump, fix the toilet and the taps, check the wiring, scrub & patch the chimney, clear the drains, fix the stairs(and the fuck1ng ladders ;), throw out the garbage, salvage the junk, scrub the place from top to bottom, send the kids into town to find jobs and bank the cash until we can get to those foundations after the ground dries out.
Don't go merc, we're gonna need you on that shovel.

The MM seems very balanced these days, except for the 16vs9, 15vs10, etc... i dont know how these are balanced unless the inferior team has proto tank and that doesnt ensure anything, the map is decisive. I think the game has become more competitive and more stressful (i dont like to play VG with stress, not healthy), we-¦ll see whats gonna happen. Also they should consider rising the payouts on higher tier matches, is becoming really expensive if i just want to stay alive, not win.

For my part, I have been asking for some type of solo vs solo mode in the game for a while now, even though this is not quite it as far as my expectations of such system, I must say that I have been enjoying the game much more with the recent changes and I think things are on the right track. Thx whoever worked on this at CCP! |
