The idea is either take away isk when peope leave a battle. The first abandon will cost 100k isk and would be increased 1.5x each time you leave a battle. If you disconnect, or shut off the console it will be a 25% increase for benefit of the doubt. The penalty would be divided by 1.5 after every downtime. As for squads, each member that leaves the battle would increase the penalty for all members that left.
Leaving a squad and then leaving a battle won't dodge the squad penalty and joining another squad mid match and leaving to troll them shouldn't work either.
Another penalty could be a sort of tax deduction from your payouts from any other matches you play for a period of time. If you leave enough matches in a day you'll get a public match cooldown leaving you with faction warfare and pc.
Then to promote staying in a battle we should have Tiered pub contracts. This would be based on your Mu ranking where the npc corps would recognized you as a player good enough to defend their district which means higher payouts and perhaps even rewards that come from that company (quafe skins?).
Low ranked players and players that try to tank mu would earn a less which should make running proto put you in the red very quickly.
The battle difficulty could be determined by the systems security level with 0.5 being top tier, just so players know where they stand. |

If it can detect a fatal error, or a freeze it shouldn't count. Disconnections will add 25% more to the penalty for leaving a battle. Maybe you'll get up to 3 free disconnects if you aren't already penalized.
The best option would be to have a way to rejoin a battle you've disconnected from. |

isk penalty is not really going to fix it . to most off us isk is not a big deal we have plenty. i agree that freezes and disconnects should not be penalised . it going to take something everyone cares about like sp lets say 100k . on average that will take 10 battles to make up & only so many times before your banned till next dt is over . i know wut its like to have a squad member scottied . in that case it should allow that/those members leave squad and reque to the same battle , same they was suppose to be in , with a 3 min window . |

Its pretty typical in many games to penalize backing out of a match or group. While the game is obviously buggy and causes disconnects, slapping a penalty on after the first infraction is probably a bit harsh.
Punishing continually backing out over a short period of time seems reasonable however. As for that punishment being in the form of ISK.....not so sure about that. Typically what you'll see is a lockout timer that is about as long as what it would have taken had the person just stayed in match and finished it out. So not so much charging them for backing out, but more so making it so that backing out is simply going to be less profitable that sticking through it.
Again slapping on a lockout timer for the first couple infractions is ill advised, as disconnects do happen and we dont want people to be punished for that. However if the behavior is regular enough to merit it being clearly intentional, then its far more reasonable to discourage that behavior.

Proposed it already, they should introduce a contract violation ratio. This ratio would consist of your left early to finished ratio, and should influence your battle payout. So if you leave constantly, you will get lower payouts, and if you always stay to the end, you get higher payouts.
This will incentivize staying in battle without direct isk penalty. You will just be payed by your worthiness and for being a reliable merc. Mercs leaving early all the time, are just not worh the same money as mercs sticking to their contract. |

Sometimes I just cannot stand fighting against two proto squads for the fourteenth time in a row. Until I can choose my arena (ie, I want to have fun, not have to get my teeth kicked in 24/7) then I don't want to get punished for something the game fails to handle properly (matching up appropriate squads.)

Since matchmaking has severely improved, I think this is not an issue anymore. With the current mindset, it's a very bad Idea, to give people the possibility to pick their fight. Because all those kdr scrubs will leave untill they find an easy battle. This is what needs to be prevented in the first place.

Carrot's could work but a I think a stick with an explanation of the stick would be a good addition.
Also, something I posted in the main feedback thread was this:
Kain Spero wrote:So, I was brainstorming ideas about the whole leaving match issue.
Why not just keep putting the people that leave back into that same match until they get the idea?
Flag their MU rating as a squad. If they left because they needed to pick up someone then their MU rating will have changed.
If they left battle because they needed to log off for a bit it wouldn't effect them.
BUT... if they left because they thought the fight was going to be too hard just keep putting them back in that same match.

Which is sad given that pubs are supposed to be the easy play and have fun gamemode. That's a different issue with faction warfare being much easier than pubs and pc matches being less frequent and inaccessible to most of the playerbase (bad performance also turning players away from it).
I do want choice of contract in the future, but the decision should never be made based on who the enemy team will be and more based on what level of play is expected and how rewarding it'll be to win. |

Also like another merc's idea where rconsitently not backing out limits your losses, a little of both could work well.
How about this for a non-ISK based penalty: if you leave battle the game inflates your mu rating until that first match has ended.
No ISK, but it hits those quitters right in their fearsac.
