I have a cheap commando that costs about 8k... Shouldn't be dieing more than 10 times, even in a bad match (unless going full suicide) so it always gives a good result... Thanks to the commando damage bonus, it deals enough damage to be effective in most scenarios. |

Try switching the armour repair and plate to milita if you can

My "cheap" Logi fit is 21k. That is the cheapest I can go without it going from paper towel to tissue paper HP. I will not run less than advanced equipment on my Standard Logi. That price will drop below 20k once I get my hands on a Quafe MD.

I would put the price at around 15k or less, just as a pre-edit eyeball.
Standard non-frame is 3,000. Standard Light Weapon is 1,500 or around 2,400 for a variant (Assault Rail Rifle) Standard Sidearm is 675 or around 1,100 for a variant. Standard Equipment is 900. Standard Grenades are 450 Locus, 600 Flux, or 750 AV. That leaves ~7,600 for defensive modules or to upgrade other stuff. So a "true cheap fit" should probably be closer to around 10-12k.
Of course, there are varying degrees. My go to Logistics fit is 42.7k (Sever Logistics with Advanced Repair Nanohive, Prototype Flux Uplinks, and Prototype Repair Tool with mostly basic or advanced modules) and I consider it cheap. Yes, it does mean that if I die 5 times I am spending over 200k but when I use this fit I am usually earning 400k+ because I have so many WP. Yes, the Prototype Equipment add a lot to the price but while the damage difference of a Prototype weapon might be 10-20% over the Basic weapon, Prototype equipment is miles better.
My Flux Uplinks cost 10.5k versus 900 for the Basic but have a 8 second spawn time instead of 15, have a max active of 2 instead of 1, and can pop out 12 mercs instead of 6 so it is worth 12 times the cost for me. For me, being cheap just means being cost efficient. Using a Prototype Suit with Prototype modules but using an Advanced Weapon rather than Prototype to save 30k is cost efficient to me.
I wonder if asking Pyrex would yield a different result than me with his wealth being 20 times greater than mine. Interesting thought.

The only fits that are needed in this game. Is the Paladin still using a charge scrambler rifle? Only reason I never got it. I love the charge scrambler but the assault makes so much more sense when paired with a laser rifle.

A cheap fit is any fit that you couldn't lose money in unless you actually tried to die as many times as possible. So it varies from player to player.
To me, anything less than 25K is a cheap fit.

I got a
std caldari assault std AR std magsec
CORE locus grenades std nanohive PRO dampener 3 BPO dmg mods (the krins dmg mods)
costs me 23 000 ISK, great performance for ISK, considering that std nano's now have 6 instead of 2. More grenades and ammo, the AR and magsec eats a lot of ammo if you are always in hotspots.
my cheapest is 0isk. medic starter fit (caldari) with BPO quafe plasma cannon, the militia magsec is like a mini AR with proper SP investment and aim. |

Yea it still has the standard scrambler.
I like the commando bonus on the standard one but now that you reminded me I think I am going to clone the suit and see how it performs with the newly adjusted AScR. |

In Ambush I exclusively use cheap fits. Nothing costs more than 4k. I would say your 12k suit is still a cheap one - just not as cheap as it might be. I find that cheapo stuff between 2k and 4k is still effective and I'm not a vet or a stomper or anything like that. I still need to work to get any kind of result!
Look at it this way - if you die 10 times in your 12k suit you lose 120,000 isk. Which you probably make back at the end of the battle. So you're breaking even. if I die 10 times in my 4k suit then I lose 40,000 isk which I will at least triple at the end of the battle. So I'm making isk whenever I use these cheap fits.
