I want this perception to change. How do we get it there? Is it a problem with dusts vision or eves view of it?
Do we need cooperative goals that force eve players / corps / alliances to rely on dust players to get the things they want, or will the golden child syndrome of eve prevent us from ever affecting 'their' game?

If Dust protected new players coming out of Academy better I feel player numbers could've been better since it's release date. For ex: players would stay in the Academy with players like them until they hit 3 mil SP, or something like that. It's going to be tough getting new players now to view it diff, Dust is coming to an end and the next gen console's are out.

I'm with Cat... what am I missing? There was a post or two with minor assumptions (which IMHO are pretty fair, and never hostile when countered), but compared to what is typically thrown out here in the GD forums among ourselves, it's pretty mellow. I mean, any given day here is like piranhas eating their young and then blaming them for not swimming faster. but. in a forum.

Re-looking through the comments, I am perhaps being a bit knee-jerky. However I have dealt with plenty of people that very much get off on the 'you took our sub money' and 'console players are all children' type arguments.
I still want to see some sort of cooperative goals that would lead to a respected and 'needed' dust community among eve players. I very much have got the feeling that part of the reason that dust gets the flack it does, is because we've been held at arms length, or devs have been paralyzed by 'vision'.

Ah yes, I fully expected that someone like you would show up and try to downplay the statement of cooperative goals. Aren't you practically a full time eve player now? I suppose if you are intent on resenting cooperative goals they'll be 'negative' no matter what's said.

I'm with Cat Merc. The top comments seem to be talking about kids in general and then discussing what it takes to get into EVE.
That being said, what has this game ever done to deserve anything other than derision from EVE players? Its primary link to EVE is only of benefit to the EVE player in Faction Warfare (orbital strikes), and the Starbase bonuses from PC structures are so negligible that no EVE player has any reason to care about them.
Dust can barely be called part of New Eden at all.

Lol, it was there from the beginning, and by beginning I mean when DUST was first announcedGǪ EVER! The reason is that it is a whole different game, a "fast twitch" game. That is laughable to people that play EVE because EVE does not depend on fast twitch aiming mechanics. I agreed with them then and I agree with them now.
I am willing to play DUST, but the type of game it is isn't really my cup of tea. I further dislike the begging for and actual development that has been made toward making it even more of a silly fast twitch shooter game than it has to be.
When DUST development changed to console that was it. Even EVE players willing to play it before laughed and said no way to buying a console. I was one of them. I bought a console for my kids because it is a kid thing to me. I wanted to play DUST so I have begrugingly accepted having to play it on console and to watch it turn more and more into an arena shooter.
Death is a serious businessGǪ So is running a shoddy, half-baked game company.

Dust didn't get to where it wanted to be so I'm not surprised EVE players look down on it.
At the same time the game has NO connection to eve whatsoever and we can't even communicate with the eve playerbase.
We need the cooperative missions with eve players and the link that should exist but doesn't in dust. we need a port dust to PC or legion or both

But seriously, cooperative objectives. Special resources accessible only through dust? Special dust contracts to clear drone infestations for planetary interaction for x time?

SOME amount of Racial bigotry will always be necessary, I think. (Thank goodness it's only in a game that I should be suggesting bigotry as "necessary" ).
Beyond the fact that Lore and storyline has built Race and Separation of Races to be the core explanation for war in New Eden,GǪ there is always the underlying disdain that PC'ers had for "giving the first chance to set foot on New Eden dirt" to a Console-player community. Consolers?! Those primatives?!!! LOL
There's still a debate about how much the second suggestion ever really exists, but I still say retaining SOME of it is healthy for Dusters. CCP seems genuinely set on making Planetary Conquest solid. For EVE Capsuleer players to value hiring Dust players, they are going to have to feel they NEED us to obtain the district real estate they hungrily want. Any envy that PS3 players can do something EVE players can't, and any dislike that comes from looking down on a person who you know in your heart you NEED in order to acquire power for you,GǪ helps promote that tension-filled mercenary relationship between us.
Hopefully CCP will perfect the other end of that "we NEED the Dust players" dynamic by tweaking the necessary stuff in EVE-Online.
So, go ahead Capsuleers. If you "love" me, let me know it.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...

Having talked with lots of Eve players about Dust I can understand where you would have expected certain things to be said.
I have found that many low sec players do not dislike Dust itself but they have a serious problem with the Planetary Conquest players who have sort of become the representatives of Dust. Their words ranged from "whiny" and "cry babies" to "useless" and "arrogant". I was able to witness a bit of the activity that gives them this impression and can not say I disagree. What it comes down to is anyone in Eve that gets involved with planetary conquest players ends up witnessing the stupidity and the drama that goes along with the sillyness we take part in to make PC interesting.
If you want to see Eve care about Dust you want to see the factional warfare ties strengthened. This include but is not limited to removing normal OBs from FW so that when an Eve player is overhead their OB actually gets dropped, making it so that Dust is able to select districts to attack so that Eve players have a reason to reach out, and creating a secondary militia channel that Dust players can pledge to a faction to join and Eve players can go there and ask for certain districts to be taken or defended. |

Why not just allow DUST & Valk players to fly in EVE space? VR is coming to the PS4, and DUST players in the EVE class of ships known as "Mordu's Legion" are no real threat to EVE players.
We would be self sufficient and fleas to EVE'ers and provide the new demographic that CCP needs for the long term.

It's like having nukes or strategic resources IRL - and until we have both we are just so much ground-grease to lube gears that EVE doesn't need lubing anyway.
One thing i'm 100% in agreement with Ratatti on is that Dust needs a strategic resource that matters in both games and generates synergies of power for ground/space alliances.

What I've heard from EVE players during my short 3 month stint in EVE, was that they'd like to have defensive bonuses when their corp is holding districts in a system. That would make sense aswell, since in one of the first trailers, the Skyfire Battery was one of the assets that was fought over.
Why not make the skyfire batteries on the surface a additional defense of the Stations or POS.
I also agree, that we need control over a resource, that EVE players would need for decisive ship systems, or certain tiers of ship resources.
This would get EVE guys into Dust very fast, since resources are what it's about in EVE.
My biggest concern aabout all real time connections betwheen EVE and Dust, is the lag, since EVE is a single shard universe, and there can be thousands of ships in a single battle, that would be horrible for a realtime fps game if even slight lag is coming with that.
I already seems, that all gamemodes, that involve OB pliots are having much more lag than pub matches. I think that a big reason for that is the EVE DUST link. Same Problem goes for Valkyrie, this game won't work with EVE Valk connection, since in the big eve battles, there is a feature called time delation, which is not feasable in an FPS game. I only works because of clickedeeclick gameplay in EVE. |
