But yeah. This is true. If you are going to throw uplinks, at least throw them facing a good direction and not just against a goddamn wall.

The game doesn't do a very good job of telling you that. I've learned thanks to the forums but I doubt the average blueberry even takes a peek here.
CCP should add this tidbit of info in the description of uplinks.

You are invisible when you spawn (and supposed to be invulnerable too), you can simply turn around without moving the left stick/WASD.

I always try to line them up so an objective will be center of the screen so as to give people something to instantly orient themselves agaisnt.

There is a rare circumstance where I place a link facing the wall because it is what I would want if I was a random spawner, tell me if you agree or disagree. I will go with the majority.
An example is that if the corridor running north south where both exits let you get to the objective west I would place the link facing the west wall. I would not put it right up against the west edge I would put it against the east edge.
I do this because the common convention is for people to place links where your back is protected by a wall however in a corridor your back is not safe |

Okay but do you have it facing the OPPOSITE wall, or the wall it is against? Because the former is smart and the latter is flat-out ********, and you are saying you are doing the former because you have a brain. The OP is complaining about the nutters who have you spawn with your nose against a wall.

Also STOP putting them on pipes where heavy's can't jump down . And having uplinks on the highest ******* tower does NOT help to win the battle

Putting a note in the description of the Uplinks is a good shout too.
Oh and don't get me started on those scumbags who spawn in on Ambush and the first thing they do, before drawing breath is drop an uplink... I seriously hate those guys.

Excuse me as I chime in for a moment.
Enough with the uplinks on every single tower on Line Harvest. Yesterday alone, I've witnessed 4, yes FOUR separate matches where some clever ass ADS pilot decided it was a wonderful idea to neatly place an uplink on each tower as he flew around for a while as I busted my ass to carry the blues that mindlessly formed a circlejerk and talked about what else they could do to further screw us over from upon their perch.
After getting shot down, (like hell I was going to prevent them from swarming you. **** you.) the pilot sat up there with his collection of blues and shot SMGs at the enemy MCC.
Now, some may argue that towerlinks are better than no links, and I wholeheartedly respect your right to be absofuckinglutely wrong. I can fight my way out of the redline, but jumping from a tower and getting stunlocked from the dampener just long enough to get hyperhumped by 7 scouts all at once, that don't even use lube? That's a no no.

When you drop uplinks, you drop them a little bit in front of you. I sometimes drop them facing a wall in order to conceal them, because if I dropped them with my back to the wall they would protrude around the corner and be likely to be seen and destroyed. An example of this is the little holes in the walls of Alpha on Highlands a.k.a. the train map.

Doesn't that apply to basically all of the mechanics in the game?
There is barely anything that you can figure out on your own, outside of the actual FPS mechanics. Drop uplink direction is rather intuitive compared to some of the other stuff.

Blame the 150WP minimum in conjunction with potential protostomping.
It's an insurance policy. In fact, the protostompers themselves suggest throwing random drop uplinks in Ambush to get the minimum.
Because, apparently, Dust is designed to incentivice the sabotage of your own team for personal gain.
I guess it is a bit of an EVE thing to do. |

You can reduce the distance you toss them by looking at your feet.
