Start working on a ps4 port.
How do we get more people onto a sinking ship would have been correct.
I want this game to live on, not die slowly and it's the fact it's on the ps3, not the game itself that's bad as such.

The problem is "how many people would move from the PS3 to the PS4?" It might just split the community even more. The people that would be most interested in playing would be EVE players based on them already having interest in the EVE universe. Logically, the PC would make more sense. Regardless, there are a whole hell of a lot more PS3's out there than PS4's. A Google search states that it is 10 million PS4's (as of 1/5/15) and 70 million PS3's (as of 11/16/12). People aren't playing DUST because it isn't on the newest system; people aren't playing DUST because the community is split, the game is not worth slogging through the crap in order to find the diamond, and the game is not well known. Dunno. Maybe, just maybe, we can get some nugget of information out of FanFest. But the last two FanFests and the last two EVE Vegas's have been a load of misinformation so the record is looking pretty strong... How is it ok to port to pc and not to ps4 when you're worried about migration? Remember announcement of Legion and how sooo many people dropped Dust cold turkey? Dust will be reborn on the ps4 because all of the vets or people that left will (at the minimum) take a second look at dust. They may be impressed with dust and how far it has come since Uprising. If they approve, then their friends will join and it will grow. Plus, people on ps4 will at least try it because it's free and there is NOTHING on the ps4 atm. With new ps4 capabilities, perhaps some of the bugs and overall game performance will improve, making dust a very attractive look. 10M ps4 users is 9,995,000 more people than we have now.
It was 7 million about 2 months ago.
It's right there staring everyone in the face and all people can go on about is nerfs, buffs and trying to squeeze as much into this game as possible.
CCP could squeeze as much content in as they please, it's still on the ps3.
I am hoping at Fanefest they'll at least let us know 100% whether it's going to slowly die off or will be reborn on ps4.
Rebirth 1.0, 1 can dream.

They've made a lot of mistakes with this game, but I can guarantee you they are clever enough to at least avoid that one. Aye. I wasn't stating that it would still work but it is what needed to happen. Well, that and the game not being released in a terrible state. One of the benefits of making EVE: Legion rather than "DUST 514 on the PC/PS4" is that it is a rebranding. Sure. I think a lot of people (myself) included don't mind the long silence just as long as there's some kind of alternative in the works. If they working for Legion for PC and fixing all the mistakes they made in Dust then good, as long as this time they release a finished game.
I don't mind that either but i personally would prefer a dust port.

MORE CONTENT is the only answer.
Whether it's possible with the current resources, I can't say.
But it's the only answer to your question.
I think that depends on how much more lag it will take before people realise that the ps4 is the answer lol.

You are joking.
That shows over time that the amount of new players created is going way down.
It also shows that less and less players are playing.

Potential yes but the iinterest clearly isn't there.
The game is on the lolps3 so i'd imagine most people look at how long it will take to fully enjoy the game VS how long until they are getting their new ps4 with all the 'next gen' stuff and the rest down the line. It's all well and goood for those of us who have been here and have everything to enjoy the game to it's fullest and can chuck away proto as if they are mlt but for the new player, it's a grind too far for what it's worth, clearly.
It was no different with the ps2/xbox when the ps3/xjoke 360 came out, the console trend will always go that way as you know.

The number of new players created took a significant drop when alt farming became less of a thing. Really all that happned there is the graph became slightly more accurate. The graph decline is definitely not a good thing. Those numbers are based on average people online at any given time which means that a certain amount of decline is not actually players lost just a lower average amount of time online. There is still a shrinking of the player base which is to be expected with any game as people get bored with a game. The real problem here is player retention. If we can not keep 200 players out of 1000+ that joined in the last 48 hours then what good is recruiting 100k players? This game is inherently harsh to new players in ways that could be solved somewhat easily. New players need to be better informed and older players need to be better updated. We are meant to depend on the forums for information when new players and even some veterans do not even know the forums exist. How long do you think it took for all veterans to know how bandwidth works? How long would it take for a newbie to learn bandwidth? Newbies very well may never learn if they are not squading up with people that are informed. New players should not hit a hard cap that all of a sudden throws them to the wolves. The academy should be the only meta locked place and it should be totally mission based on when you leave. This way newbies can learn at their own pace and have a better chance to survive and contribute to an actual match. The academy should consist of 8 vs 8 in either domination or ambush. Enough of my rant. Few people care about NPE and of the ones that do few will ever see this post or even consider the points made. o7 thanks for reading.
The NPE could be the best and most cushioned thing ever in gaming but it's still a case of 'shall i spend all that time to fully enjoy the game on an outdated console with no guarantee of it being here in 1 year'.
Even if it is here in a year, most of the playerbase most likely won't be. The game needs to grow with the times and it's just not going to happen on the ps3.

and if Legion is green lit then the game will be on PC and none of this conversation will matter. We can talk hypothetically and argue over platform all day long but the simple fact is that right now there are millions of potential players out there that could be joining us here and now. The things that could make this game retain players are not that difficult and could probably be implemented in a matter of months even with the smaller team of developers.
Legion is a different game though and the here and now is the lolps3.
There's thousands of legit dust accounts so if it went to ps4 there'd be a large interest right off the bat for sure and seen as there's less to offer on the ps4, there'd be a large concentration of gamers.
An example is BF4, there were 19k people online for pc and 44k people online for ps4 when i checked about a month ago. PC has so many games that player concentration is watered down. Farming simulator also had more players watching and playing than planetside 2 last checked so i think that speaks volumes for what pc gamers tend to be more into. I play all the next gen stuff on pc myself other than star citizen and when you look at games like csgo which always has at least 150k people online, it's pretty obvious how well legion/dust would do on pc.
Nothing is going to retain players on the ps3, that's the way console goes when new ones come out.

Why are you so stuck on the capabilities of the PS3? Not to be offensive but you are over here sounding like you get a commission on every PS4 sale. Personally I do not see Dust as being a good option in PS4 at all in the next two years. Between the cost of entry to PS4 and the flood of new games that will be coming by the end of this year revenue per player is likely to be terrible versus the possible revenue per player here on PS3. Last I checked CCP was out to make a profit and in the next year the way to do that is to stick to PS3. It may not sound like the most appealing option to us as players but the numbers are what CCP decides based on. The cost of porting to the PS4, signing a new contract with Sony, and taking a hit on losing a large amount of the current player base spells absolute disaster. We can argue any points on platform but the simple fact is CCP has said that for the time being they are staying on PS3. You should consider pitching in on making the game a better place like some others do as you seem to know a thing or two about gaming and are an experienced gamer that could probably give some good ideas and feed back. Otherwise feel free to grab your some other games while CCP decides what it wants to do.
CCP has shown that if people show enough support then they make it happen so I am trying to stir that up. There was a time where a lot of the stuff we have now was an unequivocal NO, but here we are with it all.
I have made an actual thread in feedback that I bump called 'Dust development for ps4' a while back.

Please check out the ps3 spec as well. Not to sound offensive but you seem like a bum who doesn't want the game to move on to greener pastures because you'll get left behind.
See how that works? I also do not think that of you, just saying.
Im sitting back playing Blacklight on PC at a higher framerate and resolution than PS4 will ever see so I do not care either way. Things that were a resounding NO before was because of concerns on economy and the future of the game. A move to PS4 is a pretty solid no because it does not make much business sense but thats not my call, it is CCP's financial experts and investors who will make that call and I doubt any of them are here on this forum right now.
How's that coming along now as last I played it was really bland. I didn't mind the way the cash shop works and I vaguely remember the build I had in mind. It was really laggy when I played.
Of course but who relays info that helps them make decisions?. We whined for more aurum items and got them and all the extras recently. There's no reason this issue would be any different.

That would provide a new player enough time to build her skills to be competitive if they started playing seriously.
With a free-to-play game, I think we would see a massive influx of new players chasing the golden carrot. Many would get hooked and stick around after the tournament was over. The gaming press would get the word out, and I think it would inject a ton of new players and revenue into the game. That would be well worth the several hundred thousand dollars it would cost to pay out the winning team. Additionally, this tournament would allow EVE orbital support using the existing mechanisms (host the tournament on a planet in a region other than Molden Heath).

No, caveats abound here; I play commando, the least viable suit type in the game even after bandwidth, and my gun game is utterly miserable, so I have no doubts that a better player with more savvy instincts could take this game and be decent at it...in about two months, minimum. And there is your problem. It's a walking corpse of a game tied to a platform that's already dead but just doesn't know it yet. By the time any new influx of players get good enough to compete with the established player base, this game will be long gone. Sad, but probably true.
Nothing short of a port to ps4 will save it.
But we could host a competition to draw in players. Once the cash prize of 700k has been sucked out of the game and those new players no longer have an incentive to play, the game will be good on the ps3 and we can all ride into the sunset happily ever after.

If Dust gets greenlit for PS4 AND the NPE gets better, we might see a steady rise in player numbers.
The NPE is the most important thing at all! I've created new characters recently, and the NPE after leaving the academy is horrid. It is no fun to get protostomped in pub matches over and over again, and that's with me knowing the maps and the mechanics inside out. Sure you can sit back and farm SP with links and a repper, but is that fun for somebody who expects to shoot stuff?
NO IT ISN'T!
So the only thing that will keep players in the game is FUN period! Which means that they have a newb playmode, exclusively for low SP Characters, which should be limited to level 4 stuff only.
If they want to duke it out with the lolvets, thy can join pubs, but if they get tired of the stomps, they can go back to their reservate low SP gamemode to catch a breath and have fun in this game.
Tiered games wont solve the issue, only seperation from the vats will help the NPE!
We had more people playing when there was no NPE btw.
You completely miss the issue. No amount of sticking feathers up your arse will make you a chicken.
People are not babies and do not need to be treated as such. Newbs are not little cute smurfs, they are people who want to kill others.
There were way more people playing when there was no NPE so it has nothing to do with it. Its because were on a console that is sht.
Please understand that.
Matchmaking will boost the ps3 capability by 1000% and we can enjoy Dust for years to come......
