I am not a big fan of the recent changes to Uplinks. I think they have a great influence on the imbalance of matches, that should be looked at.
My main point is, that in the stomping matches, the link situation for the loosing team is usually not good. The reason for that is obviously the BW changes, and the amount of spawns we have on the links since HF echo.
The result is usually, that the stronger team can easyly wipe out all links in a short time, and by doing this, breaking the momentum of the weaker team, resulting in a certain unwillingness to end the game for the weaker team. Usually it's the look at the respawn screen that tells you that a battle is going down hill. If after your first death, when you just deployed 4 links (My starting suit is a Sever Logi with 4 ADV links) you want to respawn and no links whatsoever are available.
In the past, the sheer amount of links made it very difficult, even for really good teams to break the momentum even of weaker teams. This lead to intense fights, because what the weaker team couldn't bring in sheer firepower it could make up in numbers they threw into the fight, and eventually the stronger team could be overrun. This is not happening anymore, since the stronger team just needs to wipe out the close to objective links, and the one or two far away links just get depleted instantly. We need this to be at least partially being brought back to former efficiency. We need different types of links with very different stats.
Make links much more varied!
Flux links: These should be fast with low spawn counts, but high carried numbers. (like they are now)
Gauged links: Should be medium spawn counts with medium carried, and more deployed at once (4 at proto).
Quantum links: These should be the backup links further away, which have the old spawn numbers, but only two carried and active (pretty much the old Version of them).
Stealth Links: These would be a new version of links specifically for scouts, They would have only 5 super fast spawns, one active at a time, and 3 carried. These Links would be unscannable (even by a maxed gal logi) since they would be just used to spawn in a squad, which would reveal the link anyway... The stealth links would have only a BW of 2, since the scouts are pretty tight with their space anyway, and it would allow a basic scout to bring two active links to the battle (one stealth and one standard) This would only be one version (proto, LV 5 Link deployment)
I would even like to see a reduction for Link BW, but that might be not wanted because of link spam.
I really think, that the link Situation is one of the bigger reasons for battles being less balanced since the BW changes. Usually the team with active linkers has a much bigger chance to win, which on the other hand gives these linkers no chance to vary their gameplay, since they have to keep a link suit active at all times.
A secondary issue with the new changes, is that if you want to keep links alive, you have to equip them at all times, this is especcially difficult for the support/rep/revive logis, since only the proto suits can have inj/rep/hive AND links. And only the min and gallente. Please give all tiers the full amount of EQ, the cost of running logis is already very high, so make it possible to run adv or basic and still carry links all the time without gimping our support abilities. |
