You spoke the words for me. Every penny I spend on Dust is with the thoughts of:
a) Im gonna use this quick and enjoy it.
b) It will be part of the awesomeness that I transfer to Legion.
This is exactly why I will only spend very little money on my war barge. The short term effect is not all that great and we still do not know what the long term will be. So far I have only purchased roughly 300 components and unless the new subsystems are amazing I will not be buying any more. |

Ever notice how every mention of the planetary combat adaptation of New Eden in recent announcements has been referred to as Dust 514 and not EVE: Legion? And even at Fan Fest there may not be much for us but there are still two panels for Dust 514 and zero for Legion. And remember when CCP told us it would be hotfixes from here on out and client updates would be unlikely, yet we got Uprising 1.9 and Warlords 1.0 with Warlords 1.1 looming ahead? What if CCP responded to the backlash of last year? What if our first elected CPM knocked some sense into CCP and made it clear how even considering skipping the PS4 for the future of New Eden planetary combat was incredibly disrespectful to your existing supporters? What if CCP realized the PS4 infrastructure is very similar to a PC? What if CCP noticed that since last Fan Fest other games came out like Warthunder which is 1) Free to play 2) Doesn't require PS+ for online play 3) Receives fast updates and 4) Has cross play between PC and PS4? What if . . .
I apologize for any false hope I may have caused.
CCP has gone 100% silent on Legion because no matter what they say there is going to be backlash. They want to be sure on their path before anything else is mentioned.
Option A: Say Legion is being worked on and is greenlit and the backlash starts all over again. More of the Dust is dead threads pour in and all the lovely spending on these shiny new cash grabs stops for a couple of weeks. People probably start calling Sony again forcing refunds through.
Option B: Say Legion is dead and all of the people like myself that are still spending in anticipation of transferring to Legion stop said spending.
We as a childish player base forced CCP to go tight lipped like they did. I can honestly say that I did not at all help the situation right along with everyone else. Obviously some people just walked away or shrugged it off and I am not referring to those people.
The PS4 is still under powered compared to a mid level PC as well as comes along with all that red tape that Sony wraps everything up with. This is only opinion but I do not foresee a PS4 happening other than if Legion was out on PC for a couple of years and then ported after they have also gained experience with the PS4 via Eve:Valkyrie.

Racing games... theres only like three racing games and they are all generic and bad, the crew, nfs rivals or something, and drive club.
sports games... LOL, havent touched a sports game since 2005 on my psp. i avoid them like the plague.
FPS... kz, bf4, cod, and destiny, do i have to say more? i wouldnt play those games more than a month even if you paid me.
any decent or amazing mmo's?
thinking of just selling my ps4.
Even by now i think dust being ported to the ps4 is too late. With the console already going for its 2nd year. Dust shoulda had been ported when the ps4 was barely 3 months old. That should had been the announcement at ff14. Well ehm.. I'm trying to buy a PS4 so... 150 Gé¼?
LOL
Also you forgot Battlefield Hardline (comes out tomorrow) and Blacklight Retribution |

Aero Yassavi wrote:The problem with that is how Legion on PC only is utter disrespect to your current player base. I have a PC more than capable of running Legion whatever the specs, but what matter is it if most the supporting player base does not? And here you are saying a PS4 is not powerful enough to run Legion, so now anyone thinking of making the unnatural progression from PS3 to PC instead of PS4 now have to worry about making sure they are getting the right parts for a capable PC which wouldn't be cheap. I mean, come on seriously? There is no reason a first person shooter released in 2015 or 2016 should be more demanding than what a PS4 can handle. Any ultra high graphical settings which are independent of the core experience can be made special options on the PC version, not to say that it wouldn't look great on a PS4 regardless.
The PS4 is under powered for nearly any high end PC game available. It is roughly equal to a high end rig built 3 - 4 years ago. Take a look at the difference between GTA V on PC and PS4 and see how much Rockstar scaled the game back to make it run nicely on the PS4.
CCP has more than 10 years developing on PC and less than 4 years dealing with Sony's red tape and slowed deployment schedules.
Sony is dictatorial over the outside connections allowed in a game. Even the voice system we have was a fight because it is a 3rd party server.
Sony requires a QA process that just does not go along with CCPs development style.
CCP would be competing on the PS4 with games like Planetside 2 and Blacklight Retribution which have already spent several years being developed and bug tested on PC and are now being ported to PS4.
It really does suck that the move to PC is going to have a very negative impact on the current player base but the future on PS3 is looking grim and a move to PS4 does not make great business sense. Why move to a platform that has proven hugely problematic and will require you hire more developers when you already have hundreds of developers on a platform that is much more friendly to you as a business.
We have already seen that CCPs investors are on Hilmar about getting more profitability with the layoffs and restructuring last year. The way I see it they are not going to put up with any more failed projects and a move to PS4 has all the makings of a massive failure.
A move to PS4 would cost 100s of thousands of dollars and the likely hood that the current player base would either go download a new game on PS3 or end up getting poached to other new games once they move to PS4 is high.
A move to PC would see tens of thousands of players on day 1 of launch thanks to their following of Eve players who have well built rigs like we do. Lets also not forget that they have a database of millions of players who have played Eve either on a short term or trial basis over the past 10 years who will likely add to that day 1 count even more. This is exactly the reason I feel like they are working so carefully on Legion before they unveil it. |

Even with your example with GTA . . . Does it look better on PC? Absolutely. Is it still perfectly playable and gorgeous on PS4? Absolutely.
All PC is going to add is extra graphical finesse, nothing gameplay wise that isn't possible on PS4. And Sony had been opening up lately to their update policies.
I would HIGHLY disagree that the PC can not provide more abilities than the PS4.
I can rattle of downfalls of the PS4 versus a gaming rig at the same price but the point is that the PS4 is more difficult to develop for and will not be able to run at a high frame rate or cache very large amounts of data to give the functions we hope for in Legion.
I will admit that the PS4 holds an advantage in the RAM department but what does that matter when you dont have any power behind it.
Im sorry but "playable" is not a standard that I look for when we are talking about a game I will likely end up spend hundreds even into the thousands of dollars on. Legion could very well be playable on a $300 computer from walmart (Eve is) with the settings turned down. Thats half the cost of getting started on PS4 once you count the system, a game, and a PS+ membership. |

CCP forced themselves to play the STFU game because of all the promises Laurino made. FF 13 was the a horrible mistake that CCP should have disavowed as soon as he was canned. CCP has seemingly learned that as a company their reputation for delivering on promises is less than stellar. Better to not make it worse. I would rather have actual information than long term wishy washy promises. Honestly, with legion being at least a year away, I would rather hear about how they plan to get this game to run at a stable 30 FPS. That the performance of the engine is still so god awful after all this time is really shameful. It looks like mud and plays like crap.
Oh I 100% agree that CCP botched the hell out of the announcement but things spiraled out of control even more in our hands.
I also agree that we need a long term plan very soon but if they do not have one then they do not have one which think this is the case anyway. Unfortunately they have put them self in a position that some would describe as being between a rock and a hard place.
I would probably go crazy and throw a couple hundred bucks at the game for keys if they managed to make it run at a stable 30 FPS. |
