One of the things that I'd like to really see in Dust is more immersion. But immersion is such a broad topic, so I'll focus on one. Music is supposed to set the mood. It is supposed to dictate the emotions and feelings you should be experiencing in that moment. I'd like to see much more of this in Dust (also, I like CCP's synth skillz).
_There_are_some_(3 links) pieces of Dust music that are really nice, but unfortunately they are also quite sparse or removed, for whatever reason. Planetside 2 does a good job of setting moods with its spawn-screen music. I've included all three faction's spawn-screen music here..
There is plenty of musical material to work with, including some really good soundtracks that fans have made for EVE Online:
On the topic of music, I also feel that it should be dynamic in the sense of changing tune depending on what is happening on the battlefield at the present time. Say a battle is just beginning, the music should reflect a merc's arrival on a hash planet, with a mission to search and destroy the enemy infrastructure or MCC. As the battle progresses, the music reflects that in becoming more intense. If the battle nears the end and victory is very close for both sides, the music should change to reflect this as well. League of Legends does an excellent job of this with their Dominion music. It changes as the battle progresses and reflects the battlefield conditions and passage of time (Opening, Mid-Game, Late-Game, and End Game with a one-sided victory imminent OR a very close match).
More Epic mood setting music from the EVE Universe:
Rettic (the guy who made the Suites above) made some more music:
P.S. All of this stuff could also be ported over to Legion ;^)

I saw a proposal that was similar to yours some time ago. This would greatly increase the feeling of suspense in this game. |

I in fact made an excruciatingly similar thread in the Legion General form when Saberwing was still around. Not sure if it was seen by any current devs (especially Dust devs), so I decided to post it here....
Hoping for Blue (I'm looking at you Rattati) acknowledgment ;-;

Blue tag PLEASE. Glad I saw this before it got buried. Dust used to have some awesome music (some borrowed from eve but everyone who cared liked it) and almost all music has since been removed from the game.
A little known feature of Dust(and one that Tekken Tag Tournament 2 added and touted as a special feature, which people loved!) is that you can set your own music as background music. In Dust, rather than being played through an in-game menu that allows you to set the music for certain stages and screens(this is how it was handled in Tekken), you can simply start the music from the ps3 menu and get to killing.
However, as stated, this is a little known feature and one that, for immersion purposes, is only useful for those of us who have the EVE CE (worth it for the soundtrack alone. no, wait, the rifter hub. no wait, the templar gear. no wait, the robot arm. aw hell just go buy one already!) the music in eve is industrial, ambient, and beautiful. it does indeed create a wonderful atmosphere, and the jarring experience of moving from a game filled with music to one where almost the only sounds are the rattling of gunfire and explosions and death is a bit off-putting. in fact, while we often take it for granted in video games to the point sometimes of hardly noticing that there is music, when its missing, there is definitely something that feels off. almost hollow. its a bit like in game dialogue and story in that regard. New eden is full of wondrous music and deep story, but for dust players we need to access these things out of game, and that breaks immersion pretty hard. music? blue tag? please? i love this idea

I support the readding of music back into DUST 514 to add more immersion.
I also like the idea of having different types of music play for the state of the battle. This alone, would truly add more immersion; because, by the music reacting to how the battle is going, will help influence the battle flow and projection.
Favorite post so far. Absolutely fantastic idea!!

Iron Wolf Saber and / or CCP Rattati, it would be nice to have your opinion on bringing back music for immersion purposes.

+1 & bump
I would also like some ambient backround music in dust as well. You know, something like the ambient music presented in the first trailer for Dust 514. Having a thick and immersive atmosphere is pretty important to me when it comes to sci-fi games and I honestly think that Dust would benefit heavily from a bit of ambient music.

I hope there's no music added to the game, music is for movies.
If you want to talk about immersion, then you want more abient sounds added to the game instead of music, because in real life you dont hear music while in battle unless you're doing some mind games against your opponent. |

Starhawk on PS3 did a great job with it's,music in game. It's functionally very similar to Dust. it's a shooter with a strong flavor of vehicular combat. All sorts of actions in game trigger pieces of the soundtrack and it REALLY feels epic to play it. (it's a very unbalanced game, however)
Would love more dynamically activated music clips. +1

In a sense, it is mind games. Especially if the music is dynamic in the battle, it creates a feeling of urgency if you're losing. The reverse is also true. Music sets the feeling, the mood, the pace of the battle.

I wonder if eve online has battle music. I'm still against adding music to the game, but everyone has their own personal taste. |

Different strokes for different folks? Music personally helps my immersion level. I'm sure it would come with a volume bar.

If anyone has a chance, I can't say it enough, Starhawk did a GREAT job with this and I think Dust can do the same.
Many little actions can trigger calls to play pieces of soundtrack, like successive kills, headshots, getting into a vehicle, etc..

Here is a random gameplay video I found on YouTube. I've always believed that Starhawk was used as a baseline for Dust514, but I'd be lying if I said I had proof. Still, it's the game I played before coming to Dust and it was a lot of fun.
Watch the beginning, at 0:50 seconds, he gets into an LAV, which triggers a specific track from the soundtrack. When it's on your rig in your living room, it really gets you amped up and ready to go. Notice how the track CONTINUES to play but dies down about 20 seconds later. It continues to play at a low distant volume in the background, it never abruptly stops.
Then at 2:30, he gets a vehicle kill, and a double kill in the process, which kicks in a different track which floods the sound and continues to play up until he dies.
These are really just examples. The HAWK battles are the most intense part of the game, and the soundtrack plays a BIG part in that.
Know what cannot be known.

Don't watch the whole thing, just the takeoff, I love the music that plays here. It slowly fades off. This player doesn't really do anything interesting after taking off though, so not any good examples after skimming through. Still you could get amazing tracks play for you after taking out another plane, or dodging enough swarms.. It was really heart pumping.

Kinda similar to what I'd like to see in Dust, but couple that with a mood-setting-tune that changes as the battle progresses, and something similar to what I posted back in my third link in OP (like when you kill someone, the tune picks up slightly).
Frankly, I don't understand why they got rid of the beta music at all. It was great!
