A good thread to start, Jane. Kudos.
But it may not get much helpful discussion. Only further complaints.
I am not Logi, and don't make my career on Uplinks or similar equipment. But the Uplink is a device I highly value. Learning it has shown me some of the many ways players "mal-use" an uplink (not the spammers, but sort of like farming), or plant an uplink benevolently not realizing they are NOT helping their team at all, or plant an uplink thinking that the "location" is really all that matters.
GǪSometime it feels as if EVERYONE throws their uplink "on the roof", and leaves without STUDYING what the typical player does in the first 5 seconds after she spawns at your uplink.
If an uplink is placed on building roof directly ABOVE an Objective, the person may spawn on you uplink expecting to be in a room next-door to the objective, and will be furious about finding herself outside on the roof.
DS drivers are some of the only players who get to see a roof so often that the roof's exits become "obvious". GǪObvious to the uplink planter, often NOT to the spawner. The advantage of spawning at a 3-second uplink is wasted when she spins around in circles for 7 seconds trying to find the door.
Adding a roof uplink (any uplink) when the map shows there's at least one other uplink already planted in the same area gets spawners confused and disoriented.
Jumping downs from a roof so low it doesn't allow you to use the X-dampener means you have to lose some shielding just as you are heading into the danger zone.
Jumping down from a roof so HIGH that enemy down there (and dropships up there) can see you descending in clear sight, means red dots will be moving out to meet you before you've recovered from using your X-dampener.
 How you recognize these subtle problems, and adjust your "roofing work" to solve them, is up to you, Jane. Me? I'm sort of "prima donna" about what roof I pick and when.
And if the objective is worth it.
And if the enemy is using lots of dropships in this match.
