This idea has been discussed at great lengths in another thread. Mostly we have community support for the BF4 style of Kill/Assist scoring. Do a search and check it out. |

Pretty much that Blaziken. Although, if you do over 70% of the damage in BF (and someone else takes your kill) you both get a kill on your record. I'm not saying we need to go that far...for me the assist WPs being related to actual assist damage is enough.
Before this though, Assists in end of battle screen and ADR in character record please....that's EASY to implement and people would appreciate it. |

in your example, yes Mina.
Lets try it with another example.
You shoot a guy with 710 HP. Someone else sees you shooting and fires 1 AR bullet. Your stream of bullets knock him down to 700, several more impact after, but the last 10 damage was the 1 AR bullet, and your stream of bullets just peppers a dead body.
Limited context example situations do not an argument make. Consider the context of what the OP is discussing .... |

What a novel concept that is, the kill goes to whoever deals the killing blow. I don't think I've ever met anyone who actually cares about 'kills' that's actually half-decent at dust (let alone any game ever), it's always the wannabe's that are 'HEY THAT WAS MY KILL'.
Let me put it this way Mina,
If you are a KDR guy (and there is nothing wrong with that) then it matters somewhat. If you are NOT a KDR guy it may or may not matter.
I'm not a KDR guy. I'm an assist guy. I want the Assists to be in the end of battle screen because I'll almost always have the most. Because I like to play a fire support role. If I'm not on my heavy Forge gunning, I'll usually be on my Amarr lasering. It helps having someone strip shields off of 4 guys super fast for the rushers to run in and have a life advantage.
Basically I have an extremely team oriented and unselfish play style.
And I get **** for WP often because of that. Well, that's fine. I don't care if I am at the top of the leaderboard or not.
But the WP I gain affects my SP and ISK gain. SP gain matters less to me now because I've been in this game as long or longer than anyone you'll run into on the forums regularly -- but I still like SP. More importantly -- ISK. I die just as much as the next guy and that costs me money. But because my contribution to the team is scored so low I don't get much in the way of ISK to compensate.
And that's the thing. There ARE people who like to support their team in ways other than equipment. I get Squad leaders tell me all the time how much they love having my laser in squad cause it makes it so much easier for the squad (I tend to run with people who communicate and work together) to assault objectives, hold territory, etc. So even though I sometimes have a SDG (scroll down game) because I got 30+ assists my squad mates appreciate it.
My wallet, however doesn't. The ISK/SP gain as a fire support player is the lowest of all the roles one can take in this game (minus terribad sniper -- good snipers still make more than me.) And that DISCOURAGES team play. Unselfish play. The kind of play that keeps new players or newish players around. If people could make a reasonable amount of cash outside of logi, slayer/hacker, vehicles then we would have better teamwork.
And we would have fewer redline stomps and overall game quality would improve. Does THAT make it worth considering a revisiting of the assist WP system? |
