Honour in video games is a fallacy. It's a term people can throw at other to make their own failings seems better that they were and to demean their enemies, it also is a self imposed set of rules you should and cannot ever expect someone else to adopt simply to please you.
Its not about honor. Its about civilized behavior. If you go play a game outside of pickup football with some of your friends, would it make sense for one guy to play the game by going around kicking everyone in the balls? Why not? He is -technically- able to do it, and winning is very important, so why not?
Because this isnt a job, its not a way of making a living. Its supposed to be a game between a group of people who are all participating for fun with a health competitive spirit. Going back to that football example, those people got together because they wanted to do things like passes, runs, interceptions. None of them went there to get kicked in the balls.
The OP is complaining about vets, who can do better and know better, camping a CRU. That means the other team spawns in and dies right away. Its like they are making it so these players cant even play the game....in the name of what? building numbers? Why dont they just go play a 1 player game if all they want to do is shoot people with no chance to get numbers no one cares about? |

AS I pointed out earlier honour is just a term gamer like to pretend applies to their own gaming habits but is entirely devoid in those they face making their failed efforts more significant and "righteous" for whatever purpose they feel compelled to tell themselves.
Having played a franchise of games (Souls Series) since its inception you really have to work into or around the "honour" culture that the players tend to develop. Though even then that specific term is very broad, nebulous, and vague. Honour to some is not using specific over powered fit's like the infamous "Pushlock Katana's" [demon's souls], "GiantDad's" [dark souls,] or "Havellyn" [dark souls 2], to others it is specific kind of behavior your embody with emphasises direct combat over more complex manoeuvres and strategies like Back Stabbing, Counter Back Stabbing, Countering Counter Back Stabbing, Dead Angling, Parrying, etc, or even down to useless arguments used to demean an opponent who beat them within the mechanics of the game using the tools available to them.
I've heard every Honour based argument in the book and none of them have merit outside of organised contests in which both parties agree to the rules of the contest before it takes place, after which any broken rules can clearly be determined and the players integrity called into question of the bout restarted.
Honour in gaming, relative to me, is a self imposed standard I hold myself to but honestly cannot expect others to agree with or follow. Embarrassingly quoting Renton Thurston (**** you Kagehoshi) "Don't beg for things, do it yourself, or you won't get anything."
Honestly, if after reading what I wrote, you still dont get it, I doubt you ever will. I will try one more time though.
Is Dust a 1 player game with a large campaign mode full of stories and activities? No
Is Dust a subscription based game? No
Is Dust a retail game, where after you buy your copy/license, you have a reasonable expectation of support from the company? No
Is Dust a classic FPS thats been around for a decade and is guaranteed to have its own steady cult like following? No.
So what is Dust?

Why does that matter? Because the player base IS the content. Your team/squad, thats the friendly content, the enemy team is the enemy content. Without other players to animate the various battlefield roles on both teams....you DONT HAVE a game, you just have a bunch of empty maps and useless assets.
It gets more serious than that. In addition to being the content, the playerbase is also the revenue stream that justifies this very games existence.
More players --> more money --> more dev resources --> continued support and resources to develop missing Amarr stuff. Less players --> less money --> less dev resources --> decline and placeholders. Every player that quits is a double blow. Reduced content, reduced revenue. Which reduces the game for the ones who stay. And reduces the chance of a PC/PS4 port happening.
So there you go! I suspect you know all this, and dont care anyway. You think this is all about "honor", in which someone will try to shame or invalidate your right to video game greatness. It has nothing to do with what people think of you. Its everything to do with sustainability.

You mean how apathetic this whole game 'community' can be. Which is in part why this game will never truly succeed. This games barely fluctuates in numbers. We have a maybe 10% retention of newer players and a good bit of vets who are just tired and moving on. But of course, no one cares. We'd all rather get on the forums, measure the length of each other's imaginary dicks and see how vulgar we can be towards one another.
The only challenge people see left in this game is how best to **** each other off since improving the game appears out of the question.
Thats because this community is for the most part a combination of brain dead and intense entitlement. When you scroll through this thread, you see some sensible replies,(thankyou True Adamance for a decent reply), but you see alot of entitlement attitudes (I was here first, therefore by virtue of my join date im entitled to video game greatness, called hierarchy), or you see alot of brain dead rhetoric "Like, um if the blues were, like um, trying, they would win".
Lets nevermind the fact that 40mil SP gives tons of passive bonuses and 4 mil SP barely unlocks suits and modules. Nope. its the blues that arent trying hard enough. If only they would use their milita suits with no passives and their milita guns with no enhances to go fight the guy in full proto with a suit that repairs before the clip in the milita gun is finished emptying.
Its beyond me how some people are unable to see it. Its like "Ok, im going to fit a suit that is impossible for a regular guy to kill, going to fit a gun and modules that will kill him in a milisecond, and then ill get 5 others like me standing beside me just to be sure". Then they wonder why the regular guy hangs back and doesn't want to participate.
Lets not blame the guy with 40mil SP for stomping the guy with 4 mil. Lets blame the guy with 4 mil for not doing enough to defend himself. Thats the Dust community mentality. |
