I'm seeing a lot of "Way too many RE's and uplinks all over the place. People spamming them is ridiculous, q q q q q q"
Yet why is no-one addressing the significantly larger spam of Sents with HMG's all over the place?
Storm a point, get mown down by three of the sods, sound familiar anyone?
(For reference, not happening to me, I'm on one hell of a slaying spree atm)

As for gun game, you'll never improve if you stick with the HMG. It's definitely not in a good place, from a discussion I started the other day, it seems that most people think the Amarr Sent needs either a slight nerf or the others need a slight buff.
Silly Amarr.

Generally, heavies are easily eliminated with some teamwork.
They are really slow, they can shoot in only one direction, and they have no range -- so you're best to use that to their disadvantage. Get them looking one direction, then mow them down from another. Tactics 101.
They only become a problem when there are a LOT of them in an enclosed room/area with logi support -- it's then that orbitals, grenade spamming, and REs really shine.
I don't really have many issues with "heavy spamming" although I'd like to see more diversity in the city sockets in PC, where the heavy train is seemingly used by everyone. |

On a related topic, I also think that frisbee REs are kind of ridiculous and I'd like to see that changed in some way (either require an animation to deploy (kind of like the needle), and/or having them drop straight down at your feet such that they cannot be thrown). Plus they should sort out the RE teleporting mechanic that keeps happening. Hard to avoid an RE if you avoid the place you saw it land, just to realise it teleported behind you

Why should a heavy require more team work to kill than any other suit? Especially when they have a 6,073 hp clip covered up to 52m effectively(protofits stats). Distance isn't a hard counter unless said heavy is outside, but even then most if not all of the sockets in the game allow a heavy enough range and mobility that they can still thrive on the outside points, which makes range an even weaker counter. (The "can only shoot in one direction" bit is the stupidest thing I've ever heard what suit/gun can shoot in more than one direction?)
Grenade spam isn't a good counter because the resistance sentinels get piles on to the ridiculous amount of foreign triage, and 1000+hp suit. RE spam is apparently "OP" even though there's more risk to it than sitting in a hole of the map with constant repair and 3 other people making sure you don't get shat upon. Orbitals can only work outside, even though all the important parts of the map are inside. You know, where all those sentinels are being spammed?
If RE's get touched before the nerf hammer gives a good thrashing to heavies, the game will be in the worst state it could have ever been in.

Also, poor vanilla AR... No range and not even as good as a HMG.
Why the hell is it not as effective as an HMG? I mean, it practically has the same range as an HMG, and if the same argument stands as the Sentinel, it would be balanced because the key would be to outrange it. However, it would be OP because of its mobility. Imagine a scout with an HMG... Damn.
Sorry, just thinking aloud.

Amarr Sent remains broken, with GalSent close behind, and Cal/Min Sent falling far short of the mark.
Gustavo, you've just summed it up to a T. Heavies are mainly spammed in CQC as you pointed out, very few direct counters to a group of them. Yes, an RE will do the trick, but it's the getting to them.

With this community, if you play in a way that is not a 100% copycat of how they play, its spam this, spam that.
At the core or the problem, is the fact that vet players can outfit a medium suit with ungodly amounts of defense and offense, both active and passive.
So suddenly, people who play the game less than 40 hours a week have to come up with a cheap, viable counter. And thats how the "Spam" complaints start.
People counter proto squads with heavies....oh now they are spamming heavies People counter proto squads with RE, oh, now its RE spam Send tanks after them? Tank spam Fly to out of reach places to keep yourselves out of the redline? Now im rooftop link spamming\ Hack some flank CRUs? Im letting my team down by hack spamming. Or sometimes, i "spam" redline sniper fits by using 1 sniper fit i dont lose in a safe place 150M from the objective.
Whatever you or I (regular people) do, if it works its going to be called spam. The guy who just used 2 full clips on his Six Kin to kill 1 guy is going to call the guy who killed him with 1 remote a "RE spammer".
So, with that said, lets look at what is not spam:
Stacking a million passive bonuses to increase the active modules you are wearing? Not spam Queuing for ambush match after match for 8 hours? Not spam Throwing core grenades till the Ishukone hives run out? Not spam Killing the same new player militia fit 10 times in the same game? Not spam Using a double swarm commando to unload at a dropship and then change back to assault? Not spam Assigning 2 logis to one heavy all game? Not spamming logis or repair tool streams Bombing everyone with a Incubus, and then running to hide/refill ammo every few minutes? Not spam Making a thread everytime something kills you and ruins your sense of entitlement? Yep, definitely not spam.
So there you have it! If you suicide charge in milita fits all game to give squads free kills, not spam. if you come up with a strategy and successfully execute it, chances are, youre a spammer! |

But instead of the 3 groups of 1 Logi/1Heavy you usually see, now it's squads of 3 Heavies/2 logis. That is spam, because it's never just one squad.

Ah dont worry I didnt have anybody in mind when I made my post. It was more a picture of how i perceive alot of strait up complaint threads about spam. Its my satirical way of pointing out that often things that have nothing to do with overusage are labeled as such in hopes of limits being drawn up.
As per what you were doing last night...if it worked, then it should be labeled spam and all kinds of limits applied lol. |

Blame the community for QQing about rifle TTK so CCP nerfed all of our rifle damage and giving sentinels resistance to the very weapons that we have to use to kill them.
But how could you "fix" heavy spam? It's like saying if there were 16 scouts on a team, it needs to be nerfed. Or, if there were 15 assaults on a team...it needs to be nerfed.
How could you fix it? Limit the number of heavies that are allowed on a map? That would be crazy. Imagine trying to spawn in a heavy suit and the game says "Denied. Too many heavies deployed" lol
Shield tanking is hard mode /period.

The issue in heavy spam isn't that people can do it. The issue is that people can do it effectively enough so that heavies are far too abundant within matches. Obviously a nerf of some kind is in order. Heavies are far too mobile for the damage they ouput, far too hard to take out for the damage they output and the range at which it can be applied.
To fix the spam of a certain suit type you have to nerf it that's how scout spam was dealt with, and I don't see any way within reason to avoid nerfing heavy suits or the heavy machine gun.
If there were any TTK changes all weapons would be affected by it, otherwise it's a specific nerf for a specific gun or group of guns, which in its original intent has nothing to do with TTK. It's like saying because people want a certain gun buff that isn't performing well that they want TTK to be lowered. That's called a slippery slope.

The issue is not heavy spam itself but that the only counters for a heavy / logi squad are either a heavy logi squad or a suicidal scout.
Just make swarms able to lock on to anything over 1400 HP and call it a day. |
