This. People complain a lot about many things, but they hardly think of a way (call it strategy if you want) to get over them, to counter them. Heavy-logi combo? Take out the logi and the heavy is pretty much death. Now, this may be difficult, but not because the logi has a lot of hp, or because the heavy protects it, but because the team doesnt work as a team, wich is the problem to a lot of things. If you work in a squad, many things seem a lot easier than they would be on your own.

"repping right through damage" is a little misleading. if you take the case of a say a Proto rifle doing neutral damage (before resistances/bonuses/proficiency) it's doing roughly 400-450DPS. The absolute most a repair tool to can rep at is 156HP/s, so roughly 35% of the incoming DPS can be negated with the repair tool. In fact it would actually be faster for the Logi to just help the Sentinel shoot you, than keep the Sentinel alive longer to kill you.
However, keep in mind the logi has to be within 11.5m to make it happen, so grenades are your friends.
I mean I think of it like this. Logistics are supposed to be force multipliers, right? That's typically what 'support' means in most games like this. So when a Heavy and a Logistics are working together, does it not make sense that they would be more effective than the sum of their parts?

Rep tool should not be a farce multiplier, it should be a healing tool, for healing people back to full health, not keeping them at full health.
Also might make shields worth a little bit more if you can't be constantly healed, make people chose the priority targets, instead of playing 'find the HMG.' |

The rep tool is not really over powered because you your a force multiplier on the field when using it not a direct killing machine. You give up your abilty to defend your self when you pull out a repair tool so you need to make the guy your repping count as 2 people on the battlefield in terms of power.
Derpty Derp wrote:Rep tool is boring to use, hence it should have a heat mechanic to add another dimension to using it. Not to mention the easy wp farm (because it's so difficult to get a few points from something else then back to holding r1.)
Your right logi can be boring but nerfing it is not the way to fix nor make it more fun.
Derpty Derp wrote:Rep tool should not be a farce multiplier, it should be a healing tool, for healing people back to full health, not keeping them at full health.
This is not true beccuase your giving up a lot to keep someone at full health. you can't defend yourself while your healing a target and it should be a force mutiplier becuase your taking DPS off the field and making a guy have the tank of 3 people with the DPS of 1. so in the end you get the average of 2 people just focusing fire.
Force multipliers are needed in a game to make it fun and more tactical. instead of trying to make the game like every other shooter try to expand on what it is trying to do. Its trying to be something new and different. IMO this game Beats BF3 or COD just because of the dynamics of the game. It has the best social aspect of any game and the best progression system out there. It adds weapons that would not even be tried in any other game. Take the laser rifle for example Its got crap DPS at first but gains DPS as you keep shooting. its a very accurate defensive weapon. never seen that in any other game.
If you think the rep tool is overpowered because it dose not have a Overheat that's because your not trying to kill the logi when you see a lighting bolt effect hitting the rep target. If you focus the logi you will beat the person in question in a fight. If you can not get eyes on the logi then you can use a mass-driver or grenade to kill him around the corner as he has to be close to the target he is repping. If you can not get close enough to kill the logi then a Sniper can kill the rep target very effectively as its a one shot and then the logi is defenseless. But as a logi you rely on your team being good and if there not your force multiplier wont do a thing. Theirs a lot of disadvantages to being a logi but you gain the ability to keep your team alive.
Assaults get a bonus to applied DPS. There DPS may remain the same but there better at applying it to a target. Commandos get a straight up Bonus to damage. Logi gains the ability to rep through half of that DPS.
If anything there needs to be more force multipliers in this game.
Here is an idea I had for more force multipliers

Sorry, I think the repairer needs to be more strategic than just turning it on and letting it go.
Repairers shouldn't be able to constantly be able to repair a heavy, or anyone else for that matter, at max repair rates for an indefinite period of time.
Its one of the reasons that Heavy/Logi/Scout Logi blobs are over performing.
Not to mention the Logi Trains that repair the Logi repairing the Heavy ad nauseum.
Its a broken mechanic, and its time will come. You have the option of making reasonable suggestions to help balance the game, or risk players who don't care for your role coming up with worse suggestions, and there always worse suggestions.

I'm going to tell you no but I will explain why instead of overeacting like some other peopl in this thread.
Currently logis have a similar mechanic to the overheat you want. If you earn too many WP in a given time frame, then rep tools and other equipment will cease to give you WP. You'll be rapping a havey and recieve 0 triage points for a certain amount of time.
Some say that time can be circumvented by getting a kill, kill assist or taking damage. I've never found that to be true, i just keep repping everybody who needs it while i'm in a logi suit. I don't let off when the WP Cap hits, but at least i though you should know, its there, and there is already a "overheat" mechanic in place.
Yet, as long as no other blueberyy reps or brings uplinks, your gonna see the sole logi pulling a crapton of WP. But thats on the lack of blueberry participation, not on the so called "OPness" of the logi

I could understand a capacitor if you wanted to add that. capacitor could effect everything not just rep tools. So when your in combat you would have to keep your CAP up to use your gun your rep tool. They cold add low modules to give increased Cap Regen and medium slots for Max Cap but you can not add this to the repair tool alone you must add this to the suit and all modules would have a power drain. Laser rifle could instead of over heating need a good power supply because as it builds up it would draw more power. in the end it would suck up all of your cap which would disable you for a bit and you would not need ammo for it. Capacitor is a way better idea then nerfing the rep tool alone.
Another thought is Low HP suits with huge regen but sucks cap as it needs to regen. could make a shield tank that repairs rapdily at the cost of lots of cap usage.
But you would need a way to disable repair modules like in a tank and that should not be the system of turning on then cooling off. It would have 3 states. (On,active, off)
Off dose nothing
On Waits for Hp to be damaged
Active Activates and starts using cap to repair the suit.
This could add a lot to the game. neutralizing grenades to drain the persons cap to disable a portion of the team for a bit would be a cool tactical grenade.

Like i said above your post capacitor should be added to the suit not the rep tool and the rep tool should have a cap drain. This would eliminate the need for a overheating and seizing.

I like the idea of a capacitor but I think that instead of becoming unusable under a certain threshold, the effectiveness becomes greatly reduced. It still repairs, but only at, say, an effectiveness rate of 50% or so. This would introduce more skill to the repair tool and encourage saving your nanites for the right push instead of just mindlessly repping the alpha heavy of the pack for an infinite amount of time.

You get 100 nanobullets that start to replenish 5 seconds after you stop repping. 20 nanobullets expending 1/sec. Regain one every 1.5-2 seconds

I would not judge something based on other people using it. I judge it by my use of it. It is not difficult to stay alive long enough for even a noob heavy to down something.
Also rep tools are not a 'Logi only' equipment, I have them on both a Logi suit and several commandos... Good look shooting the commando down before a heavy takes your head off, gonna require more people, rather than just a better strategy.
No defence when the tool is out, but if it's 'run out of juice' then there's no reason not to pull out your gun for a bit, or throw down some hives and sort out something other than keeping the guy with the most hp alive.
Also ignoring how easy it is to jump around and hide behind walls while holding the lock (it's really not a short distance.)
How about instead of a cooldown of some sort, we just make it work all the time, but like a short ranged laser rifle. You have to look at the guy you're healing and if you screw up and shoot an enemy, they get healed.
That makes it more strategic. |

Especially if CQC weapons such as shotguns and KN can do in excess of 400 damage per shot?
By the rules of CQC weapons the repair tool is grossly underpowered.
